I own both and the X1 cannot be guided by voice control or multiple controllers for that Neo wins regardless if it doesn’t fold, and if the Neo crashes it is more robust. However I agree the X1 it’s an everyday carry.
@@stevestechemporium I'm sitting with it in my trouser pocket right now. I mean, I wouldn't want to go on a jog with it in my trouser pocket. But that's probably the case for the hoverair too...
That’s true, but for me that doesn’t help at all. I honestly think DJI is selling it at a loss or nearly no profit in order to try and kill HOVERAir as they are currently the only real threat to DJI and their next gen drones will be even better. A bit of competition is good though! Also nothing against DJI, I love their other drones. But not the Neo.
More. No Geo fence, ability to change flight parameters without app. TRUE compact selfie drone. DJI selling this Neo for that price point is to kill Hoverair. Also zero zero robo must consider the asking price for what they given and reduce $. Without Hoverair there will be no Neo in the market today
@@stevestechemporium I don't think HoverAir is a real threat to DJI. HoverAir only competes in one class of drones while DJI have over 4 classes of drones. But to say DJI wanted to get into the market that was dominitated by HoverAir now that would be correct. my 2 cents
Thing is, the Neo will do a lot of other things that the hover won't. It's really like about 3 different drones in one. If you only want a selfie drone, then the HoverAir is fine I suppose.
I don’t think the video quality out of the Neo is good enough for general usage. Much better with one of the mini series if you need a more general use drone. Although it is ridiculously cheap for what it does
My new favourite TH-cam genre is "men running away from drones". Great video, thanks! (I'm eagerly awaiting the X1 Pro and TH-cam keeps showing me X1 videos to get me all riled up...)
with the price of hoverair x1 $349 only get 1 battery with flight time 11 minutes, control with mobile phone only 30 meters, 2.7K video... but dji neo with the price of $300 get 3 batteries, each battery fly 15 minutes, total 45 minutes, 4k video, control with mobile phone 50 meters, and for $300 include remote RC N3 with a distance of more than 2,000 meters, so DJI Neo is far superior
I’ve seen raw footage from both drones, Neo has upscaled 4k it’s horrible, and it’s very over sharpened, and there’s no way to change through the dji app so you have to buy the controller to change some video settings. Hover had a 1080p vertical video mode which useful to share on social media. For the price Neo wins. To be honest I’m waiting for the official release of the X1 pro and promax !
The exact ability you say make u prefer the x1 is the exact ability that makes me choose the neo. The x1 feels too fragile when folding. It feels like a toy. For the price of an x1 i can get a remote along with the drone. Kids can use it like a regular drone. Also support and accessories for the neo is so much easier to find
I agree the Hover Air models are "better" than neo all across the board, but the issue comes with tech support and replacement. Dealing with Indiegogo companies is a NIGHTMARE, that is the ONLY dealbreaker for me when it comes to Hover Air
I have the Neo, I love it, granted it does not fold but for £169 and a 4 K camera that sold it to me, I use it most with my chest rig or man bag so no need to put it in my pocket. Plus you can connect your DJI Mic 2 to it for quality audio. 🤙🏻👊🏻
Depends on your needs, but the Neo just didn't make sense to me given it's awkward shape when carrying. I have the Mini 4 pro for when I want something reasonably small but shoots great quality.
I used a friend's Neo, but I found it difficult to do slow smooth movement near to a target. I believe the new Hoverair models will have a cinematic mode, helping with this.
Techically are quite similar even if in a diret functions comparation NEO win, by the way, but ... Sorry man, what about the prices? X1 is twice the price... And robustness? There are impressive NEO tests, litterally and intentionally crashing at full speed (manual FPV) on a concrete wall, multiple times, without major problems. NEO do not fold, you are right man, even after a 50 Km/h (some 30 mph) multiple crashes onto a concrete wall, trees etc. and some 110 mt no engine free fall!
I just got my X1 Pro and the built quality is much much better then the original X1, yes, it's more expensive no argument but look at spec to spec, the X1 Pro hardware spec is much better and the 4K is actually 4K shooting at 60fps, of course the NEO is cheaper, it has less hardware. But DJI is going after that entry level toy drone market and they added the 'selfie' portion to compete with HoverAir.
Great video. This is an excellent little drone but how does the image quality look, compared to the neo? Also, I've seen other vloggers managed to attach a small action camera onto the neo.
Great video! I agree with you, I've had the Hoverair X1 for a year almost and love it, when you travel as much as I do worldwide, you won't understand and appreciate the portability aspect of the Hoverair. The NEO is targeting that entry level drone market with fpv features and be clear, they are NOT full FPV features, it's limited and slapped in the AI selfie feature to compete with Hoverair. I just received my X1 Pro, although I had a rough app start, the drone is solid and built quality is much better then it's predecessor. The 4K quality is insanely good and can also do 60fps and slo mo. Yes, the NEO has the price advantage but spec to spec to the new X1 Pro, the NEO falls short in every aspect period. You get what you pay for ;) I'm a big DJI drone fan as I have the M3P and Avata 2, I almost pulled the trigger on the NEO as I have goggles 3 and motion controller to work with it but I'll wait for NEO 2. Everyone says yes, you can fly it farther and like an FPV, you cannot without upgrading to a DJI RC.. add another $200 ;) The phone control only allows you to fly 50 meters distance, how far do you think this drone will go AND return effectively with 12 'usable' battery time as the NEO starts to warn and return with a 4 minute safety warning. Also, we are starting to see that the NEO has some serious tracking issues, front tracking especially, it's just horrible, DJI should be ashamed tbh and the NEO is not as fast moving as the X1 Pro series. Anyways, my 2 cents, hope NEO 2 will be better.
You can see it momentarily loose tracking around 3:00. It also hits a leaf at 5:30 and recovers but it's hard to tell. It definitely can crash occasionally if moving through a really complex environment, but it's well protected with the guards
I’ve been drone curious for a long time but I also know that I would never be bothered to get a drome mid run or ride and fly it so I’ve been waiting for this type of drone to materialise for a long time. I have a hover x1 max bike pack on order. The hover x1 won’t work for my as I do a lot of kayaking and winter sports and not working over water is a deal breaker and the neo is loo slow won’t keep up With me biking. Obviously the form factor is important too. Again I know myself and stopping mid ride to get something out of a bag would be a huge barrier to use it. The Neo is amazing value watching it constantly lose DC rainmaker in his review meant it’s not for me

..nice review...were still waiting for the improvements on the newly released X1 pro and promax modes for dolly track and side tracking...and fly over water...
Always enjoy your tech reviews. But: you kinda mentioned 'obstacle avoidance' twice (early in the video, and 'it avoided that branch'), but the X1 doesn't have that at all; it's just really good at following the path that you took and as you avoid obstacles, so will the X1 ;-)
it's weird that, because it does often act like it does have some kind of obstacle avoidance. So you're saying as long as I don't hit anything, the drone won't either? I've nearly crawled through small gaps under trees with this and it's followed me no problem and it managed to navigate over a gate I closed behind me
@@stevestechemporium Yeah, it's really good at following the exact path you took, but I don't think it'll react when you duck your head to avoid a low hanging branch as it's set to follow at a certain height. Thanks to its prop cage it'll likely survive running into a twig or something (seen that in other reviews).

Funny, while watching the beginning of your video, put my Neo in my pocket. It was a jacket pocket, but it still went in easily.
will it go in trouser pocket?

Btw , the Beacon is backwards compatible to the X1. This will only IMPROVE the tracking. I will probably own the Pro in the future.
Not worth the added expense for X1 Pro max.

Yes, but have you got a controler?? Can you fly it manually??!!
No??
Yes, via the app
