Mark Knopfler is an incredible guitar player, he's one of the few that knows how to take you on a journey with just the volume knob , old school master 101.

Absolutely brilliant song. The lyrics, the Instrumental talent, the interplay of the instruments, the changing moods and tempo. The song takes me from tears to air guitar and air drums. Easily my favorite Dire Straits song and I'm a fan of all their music as well as Mark Knopfler's solo work.

Yes, they don't play songs, they play stories. Tunnel of Love, Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms, they all tell a story. You really can't go wrong with Dire Straits, they were consistently excellent. As for wishing that you had been born earlier, don't be so sure. There is a generation of musicians of your age that is starting to be noticed. For example, I suggest that you listen to Angelina Jordan, she just released a version of Suspicious Minds, as a tribute to Elvis Presley (the video is full of Elvis references, I don't even know how many, a lot) I mention her because; 1, she is a great singer, 2, she is 16 years old, 3, although she is from Norway she currently lives in LA (I think in Beverly Hills, you could potentially meet her) and most importantly, she has a little sister named Juliette. Please check her out, you won't be disappointed.

Adult stuff. Really feeds the sense of beauty beyond mere glamour. Good for you!! I was about your age when I first heard this. Few things have been on this level later in my life. All you have to do know is listen to "Tunnel of Love" and "Romeo and Juliet" from this same concert to have a really good idea of just how monumental this concert was, and still is.

The man with a sack on his back is Henry Ford and the rest of the song is about the rise and fall of Detroit City USA including the Ford Motor Company.
It's about good times and bad and of course the words, music, arranging, singing and playing his guitar as only Mark Knopfler can, all his own work again.
The dirty old track became the Telegraph Road.
    The mans a genius.
He's 72 years old now and semi retired..

The album that this song comes from, "Love Over Gold" has only 5 songs. They are all (except one rocker in the middle) long and complex story telling songs with well orchestrated instruments.
I doubt today that many would have the attention span for the length of these songs, but if you do, Knopfler is the greatest at pulling this off.

Once Upon A Time In The West Romeo And Juliet , Tunnel Of Love are so good in Alchemy Live. Also from DIRE STRAITS Live ON THE NIGHT 1993 there's a song called Brothers In Arms and Calling Elvis which are brilliant. Just a few suggestions that I recommend. Absolutely brilliant reaction to the greatest performance of the greatest rock song ever written in my humble opinion. You girls are way ahead of your years. Romeo and Juliet from Alchemy live is also Brilliant and a slower tempo. Tunnell of Love from Wembley live, I think in 1986, is outstanding too. Keep up the great work and thank you 😊. Best wishes from the UK.

The 1980s were unmatched in terms of musical talent. There was a dedication to the art form, with strong ties to the influences of past masters, and a willingness to experiment and paint way outside the lines, combined with a pure joy in making sound both beautiful and inspiring. As for the Dire Straits - every song they do is a Gem.

Feel like they were and still are totally underrated! Such beautiful lyrics and sounds, Mark Knopfler considered one of the best guitarists of all time when I chat to pub folk, but I don't think he gets the recognition! Would love a documentary or something about his influence or just anything about his guitar style! Also considering he doesn't use a pick either makes it way cooler 😁

    Thank you ladies
    That was the encore!
    You just can't follow it!
As I said in the Sultans reaction, I was there, the whole band were amazing, Alan Clark, keys, was the star of this performance, John Illsley on the bass was really enjoying himself so much. Hal Lindes back up guitar, superb. My favourite of the whole gig, apart from mark, Terry Williams on the drums!
I really enjoyed your reaction, I'll watch it again for sure!
Mia is right the music was better then, thanks for making me feel old! I was just turned 18 when I went to this gig, I think you don't appreciate it at the time so much, so thanks for reacting to it.
I still get goosebumps 39 years later!

This story applies today to Seattle, Chicago, San Fran, Minneapolis, New York & others if read the lyrics. It's about the start, growth, and demise of Detroit by government. SULTANS of Swing & Telegraph Road are the rock Classics of the Classics. You all must check out the lyrics to bring Marks music to the next level. He makes the cosmos better and even serious or sad songs still leave you uplifted and happy. Incredible

Great reaction and great song! Thank you so much for reacting to another Dire Straits video, they are my favorite band. Mark Knopfler is a fantastic guitar player and a genius when it comes to writing melodies and lyrics.
I hope your next reaction will be to Dire Straits “Tunnel of Love. “ This song tells a true story of what happened to Mark one night at an amusement park when he was a teenager and fell in love. I won’t go to more details because I don’t want to spoil it for you. The Wembley 1985 video is the best live version. All the playing is amazing. However; The studio version is even better. The guitar solo at the end is incredibly poignant and the best solo ever recorded.

Stumbled across this reaction because I grew up listening to Dire Straits, even had the pleasure of meeting Mark Knopfler when I was like 13... I still get chills listening to this live version of the song. It's amazing when you realize that the band was formed after Mark and his brother walked into a pub and heard a band playing and they thought to themselves, "I think we can do better than that." and the band was formed, Unreal!

I have to be honest - I clicked on this in a bad mood, and given Dire Straits is my favourite band and from the thumbnail you looked... I stress 'looked', like two silly kids trying to make a TH-cam channel, I thought hmm...
Problem is, you've just become my favourite 'reactors'. You are both wise beyond your years ladies. Well done.
A side note: 1997 (I think). An Englishman in LA (me, not a million miles away from Montebello). Three Irish friends and myself spent our entire months' wages to get second row seats at the Lakers Stadium (Staples then, can't remember) to watch Dire Straits. As we settled down into our seats, three Valley Girls sat down behind us, very loudly moaning/complaining/basically being annoying. It seems they had won tickets to the show on some radio station, and were very sad that it wasn't Tiffany they were attending, but some 'like English Folk Band whaaaaat?.'
Dire Straits opened with Tunnel of Love, followed by Romeo and Juliet, first two songs off the Making Movies album and R&J is probably the greatest song ever written, if you want a song to react to.
12 minutes. Silence behind us. Then one of the girls simply said 'It just makes you want to go out and buy a guitar'.
I will never forget that night.

Mark Knopfler is a MASTER BARD, not just a guitar playing singer. If you ever get a chance to listen to his solo work, several albums and televised specials, from after the break up of Dire Straits you will get a true sense of just what a talent this man is. If and when it is time you two young ladies decide to review "Brothers in Arms" please, please, please listen to his performance of it during his BBC televised special from 91/92 called "Mark Knopfler | A Night in London". There is absolutely nothing wrong with the studio version of this song. The performance from that special is just so AMAZING it is hard to put into words...

Nice reaction girls and nice finding your channel. Alchemy "forging base metals into gold" is an apt description for how these musical instruments in the hands of masters are blended into musical gold. Incredible, tight, technical and virtuoso playing. This concert was a musically life changing experience for me all those years ago and is still as good now. Mark Knopfler, besides his guitar playing, is imho, one of the greatest musical minds of our generation and his music has been an inspiration to me my whole life. Expresso Love off the same concert is also well worth checking out.....raw, upbeat and energising song.

I've been listening to music like this since the '70s, but I didn't think the younger generation would appreciate it, which is why it's a joy to see you two react to the '70s and '80s bands like Dire Straits, Yes, the Stones and Led Zeppelin. Just one suggestion: when you clap, learn to tell where the "1" beat is. Keep exploring the classic sounds! You ever going to react to any of the great Beatles music?

I love your reaction. It is so nice to see younger people appreciate more than what is the most popular on the radio. You would never hear these songs on the radio (far too long!). I have convinced both my children that DS is the greatest band of all time :)
In addition to being one of the most talented guitar players ever, MK is an exceptional storyteller. This song is about the rise and fall of Detroit. I am impressed how you appreciate how the band is "taking its time" as he explains what is happening. If you listen to some of their other masterpieces (Tunnel of Love, Sultans, Brothers in Arms) you will develop an even deeper appreciation of the MK's and the band's talents. I highly encourage you to listen to the entire Alchemy album. The whole thing is an epic performance, and I don't say that lightly.

I can never say enough good things about this band and believe this was the best combination of members. Mark is phenomenal as usual. John on bass superb , Hal on rhythm outstanding, Terry on drums just brilliant but Alan on keys, how on earth can he remember where each key and finger needs to be on an almost 13 minute song and be such a star player. This song is I believe led by Mark and Alan, but definitely not taking anything away from the others.
I love during Alan's little solo how he takes his time , uses some silence in it and at one spot someone yells out " we love you dire straits " and Alan has a tiny grin on his face as I'd he heard and appreciated the compliment. The piano is so critical and integral to this song it's just so damn beautiful. Have always felt like it's equal first spot in the song along with marks singing and guitar playing.
I think the best piece of piano playing in any song designed solely for the song itself .
#Dana's Faith here is a piano only version of Telegraph road to listen to.
    th-cam.com/video/BhPbDt3JUSw/w-d-xo.html
You can really tell Alan the piano player is really getting into it. It's hard for the piano to be heard over the other instruments when they're singing but Alan definitely pounds the keys hard and fast and is jamming as hard as the others for sure.
I've always lived a good piano eg elton john or Billy Joel but Alan Clark out performs them in this tour and his piano isnt the centre instrument like the other 2 guys mentioned.
40 years later and this song still sends shivers up my spine, it's such a magnificent place in time that won't be replicated.

Great track, love the resonator guitar (Dobro(?), probably National) he was playing off the top before trading for his Strat. Deep stuff. Knopfler's a world treasure. Don't discount the actual stories either, he's a great lyricist, a master messager.
Much love and respect. As a father of artistically and musically inclined kids each twice your age, and a former teacher of both adults and kids younger than you, including mine at that age,, kudos and loads of success and enjoyment on your journeys. Hats off here too.

Forgive me, I didn’t expect you girls to be so sharp and smart! Very impressed! I feel bad for doubting you but you got another sub & like from me at least. I’ve been watching other reactors and they give such little feedback. You’ve got the balance of listening then feeding back perfect! Not too much, not too little. Brilliant job & you’re showing the older reactors how it’s done!!

It's the music that takes you on the journey of this song! Every player on this song has a turn to show how spectacular they are and how they merge together. You're so right about them taking their time and telling the story. The pauses and changes draw us in.

Great reaction and song choice, Tunnel of Love (MM) Romeo and Juliet (MM), Private Investigations( LoG)Love Over Gold (LoG), Industrial Disease (LoG) Lady Writer (C) off 3 different albums imo their best years, Albums like Making Movies, Love over Gold and Communique, Dire Straights their first album (Sultans of Swing u did, but the best commercially globally undoubtedly Brothers in Arms, also with so many great songs, Making Movies and Love over Gold never gets old, it’s music at its best, imo they were are up there with the best of that era and yes it was the best 70s into the 80s so much change so much artistry from any genre, so many great bands and artists and instrumentalists even with the labels being what they were they still made magic somehow, great you can appreciate that and not just say that like many channels to please the subscribers. These and many others if not most didn’t make music for money, the money took care of itself because they cared about the music. 🤘

I grew up with this band, same era, and even same area, went to the same school just a few years behind them. Polished, clean and incredibly good storytelling in the lyrics. The band was very much built around Marc Knopfler, but it never felt like a vanity project. They were big in the 80s, but seemed to be lost to the public from the 90s onwards, although Knopfler did a lot of work with film soundtracks as well. Love seeing new generations finding out just how incredible these guys were, especially their live recordings. I always felt this was the UKL answer to Bruce Springsteen, and some regards, better.
