    Finally an actual photographer that makes reviews, not a TH-cam who tries to review cameras and equipment. THank you for your work Anthony.

      You can even tell it from his handling of the camera and lens. Then you see the awsome shots on his website an you get the picture! 😀

    Loved seeing the camera's results, something that is oddly lacking from most reviews.

    My nikon gear consisted of a nikon 500mm f4 VRII and full frame body and crop bodies. Also a nikon 300mm f4 and the nikon 80-400mm VRII. For larger birds such as a heron, 500mm was often sufficient, but I still had to crop regularly. For smaller birds, I used a Nikon 1.4 tele converter on my 500mm lens and the D500-d7200 crop bodies, and still had to crop afterwards. If you have an equipped bird place that you can get close to, you don't always have to crop. I couldn't do wildlive anymore due to health problems and I sold all my nikon gear and bought myself fuji gear. Now my health has improved and I want to do more wildlife photography again and I bought the fuji 100-400mm. the number of misses I now have compared to my former nikon gear is considerable. The fuji 100-400mm is also not that sharp compared to my nikon 80-400mm, not to mention the speed of the AF. What I now know is the following: for wildlife and fast sports photography, fuji is very disappointing for me. Fuji is very good for stills and I enjoy it, but for wildlife live it is very disappointing.

    This is absolutely super footage -- a far better advert for the X-T4 than most of the others I've seen. Fair play.

    Mate, I wasn't going to watch as I thought not another X-T4 review, but this was really good. First time I have heard about the ISO displayed during auto ISO. Thanks, mate.

    I've been using the Fuji XT-4 for almost two years now with the very compact and budget friendly XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 for wildlife videography and I’m very satisfied with the results. The camera and lens really jump started a new hobby for me since the start of the pandemic. I've been particularly pleased with the stabilization but of course low light scenarios are tough when limited to f/6.7 (really need to crank up the ISO). Nevertheless I’ve really enjoyed getting outside and capturing some beautiful Ohio wildlife.

    Finally an X-T4 Wildlife photography review... THANK YOU!!! A 500 mm f/5.6 prime may be quite expensive... perhaps a 200-500 mm zoom could be a little bit more affordable and all around? Hope a Fuji zoom with this reach was released 🙏 Great video! Keep it up!

      I too would like to see Fuji pursue this area of photography. While not much of a nature/wildlife shooter myself, I do dabble. My field is photojournalism/documentary and travel and I do shoot quite a few events where long glass is definitely an asset. I currently rock the 50-140 and 100-400. While I love the 50-140, not so much love for the 100-400. I have rented the 200mm a beautiful lens, I wish I could afford to buy it outright. As for Fuji adding new and longer lenses to their lineup, well according to the Fuji Podcast via Fuji Rumours a few weeks back, the guest, the head of Fuji UK seem to be saying that Fuji might be re-thinking long prime lenses, due in large part to slow sales of the 200mm. Again, that is a rumour, let's hope that it is not true. Anywho, like Anthony, I am an ex-Canon shooter of some 37 years that have fallen in love with the Fuji-X system (there seems to be a lot of us out there) and I have not regretted it for one moment.

    • @kalenderquantentunnel9411
      @kalenderquantentunnel9411 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A 200-500 wouldn't be too different from the 100-400 besides beeing heavier, bigger - look at Nikon's - for a bit longer reach. A 500/5.6 DO has the potential for top-notch image quality as well as compact size and handholdability. One could carry it as easily as the 100-400 with longer reach and better IQ. Could be a bird-photographers dream.

    • @iMax1890
      @iMax1890 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kalender Quantentunnel a bird photographer dream you say... I’ve been photographing pelagic birds for a while and I’ve seen 600 mm f/4 kept away because of the fixed focal lenght, despite being “a bird photographer dream”. There are no bird photographers dream. There is the lens you are carrying with you at the time Nature gifts you with an encounter. At that time, I’d rather carry a newer Fuji lens with extra reach like Nikon’s than a fixed prime with the same reach with almost no noticeable better image quality. I’d rather come back home with actual material than with a “bird phorographers dream” and no pictures at all because they were nearer than expected. I finally got the A7RIV + 200-600 mm lens. LOVE IT. It’s... a wildlife photographer’s dream 😉 Cheers!

    Great review Anthony, love the wildlife footage-particularly of the fox and badger. I would consider Fuji for wildlife photo/video if they did have a couple more options in their telephoto lens line-up. I currently use a Nikon D7500 + Sigma 150-600mm C lens. For stills that is FF equiv of 225mm - 900mm and for video their is an extra 1.5X crop when filming in 4K so in some ways even better for wildlife. But using a DSLR is not always ideal for hybrid shooters like me. If Fuji could make maybe a 200-600mm F5.6 lens that would be a killer combo paired with the X-T4. If they do make an X-H2 it should have an integrated grip like the Olympus EM1-X and built-in variable ND filter which would be so helpful for video (shutter angle etc). Keep up the good work :-)

    I love the camera and seriously considered it for wildlife photography. Unfortunately there just isn’t enough high quality zoom and primes lenses by Fuji for wildlife. I ended up going with a Nikon D500.

    • @koolkutz7
      @koolkutz7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Makes sense. If you pair the D500 with a Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6 or maybe a Sigma 150-600mm you have a powerful combo.

    For the Battery Grip... a dab of blue (not red) locktight works wonders in holding the 1/4-20 in place for a grip that you don't expect to ever want to take off.

    • @anthonyhurren5613

      I just seemed to just get my custom max iso showing on a half press for some reason 🤔 maybe they changed it with a firmware? I have sold it now though so can’t check anymore

    • @tomfull6637
      @tomfull6637 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that puzzled me too in the beginning. Until I noticed that it was only (me) the camera hitting the roof as regards the chosen custom iso limit in combination with my chosen SS and aperture. I set up three custom iso ranges directly in the beginning and usually the camera hit the upper iso-limit on the two lower range iso setting very quickly when shooting wildlife (high ss etc..) so I realised that the “max” iso “always” being displayed in the viewfinder was just a result of the camera trying its best to expose correctly at those high SS’s I had chosen, hence cranking up to the highest iso value “allowed” by my custom iso range setting. So if anybody out there have the same problem, choose slower and slower SS and press the shutter button halfway until you see the iso value start dropping. (Choosing biggest aperture (lowest number) helps...) Then you know that the camera is working properly displaying the correct iso in your viewfinder when having auto iso chosen. If that doesn’t work, try again in a brighter light somewhere.... Short version: think exposure triangle! - 😉

    Great balanced review and I am just at the stage of considering upgrading my XT3. I mainly shoot swans and event work for charities. My only comment which is observational not critical is when comparing the 100-400 and 200 lenses , the latter prime is eye watering expensive and should be significantly better that the 100-400.

      Pierre Laviolette 🤣 yes the 200mm F2 is a beast but it’s worth noting the equivalent full frame canon lens is the 300mm 2.8 L which is bigger and heavier than the 200mm F2. So there is some difference there 👍

    I am now using the xt20 with 100-400. It is good, also if I see people with canon and nikon take better wildlife photo.
    But I think, this problem, is because the poor lenses for wildlife that Fuji has, only the 100-400 and the 200.
    Hope they will make some more lenses, like a 600. If this happens, I will definitely stay on Fuji and upgrade with xt4.

    Hi Anthony! Definitely I'm a committed sports photographer really into high quality work...however, so much to learn and that day to reach this goal is way far!
    Great approach to the XT-4 and generally the video is really excellent. On my side an XT-3 kit lens + 50140 and 100-400 and recently 90mmF2. Looking for 2021 for a second body either a XT4 or the XH-2... The second body is for a more comfortable and safe shoot, either I have to switch on the field e.g. rugby or motor racing or because of the IBIS capabilities.
    Agree about the 100-400, and the prime 200 on my wish list. I'll have a check on your IG and introduce myself.
    Thank you for addressing the subject so well and Merry Xmas :)

    If Fuji announces a 150-600 type lens I’m in, I’ll sell my Canon 500/4 and my other L’s, shelve the R6 I’d planned and go all out X-T4/5. BUT, I can’t wait much longer ( I’m using the original 7D ) and if I buy the R6 then I’m committing to Canon for the next 10 years. I’d rather the Fuji zoom though, so please don’t make us wait, at least commit to making one 🤞🏻

    Great info. I've been wanting to get a xt4. Do you see any drawbacks of it Not being a full frame camera? Re: wildlife. Also I like how the body and many lenses are WR rated

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi sure there is always a compromise somewhere with sensor size and camera size lens size etc. Of course a full frame will allow maybe a stop better. but the APC gives further reach and smaller lens size and weight, which I find outweighs the extra stop of low light performance on full frame, especially if you haves fast lens like the 200mm f2 👍

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Go More Hike hi thanks for your comments! To be honest I think on balance APSC is a sweet spot for wildlife in terms of kit size/weight and image quality sure you may loose a stop of low light performance vs full frame but I am willing to sacrifice that for smaller gear. Also of course when I use the 200mm F2 it makes up for that. But at the same time sometimes shooting wildlife close up and wide open for birds etc I need to stop down anyway to get more of the animal in focus rather than just the eyes and beak etc. I think generally us photographers can easily over obsess with background blur especially from a wedding/portrait background (myself included) and forget about the more important details of the subject itself, this is especially true I think in wildlife photography where it’s nice to see feather detail or fur etc. 👍

  • @josephgarese5953
    @josephgarese5953 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anthony, great review and some excellent pics, thanks! Eight months on, are you still using the 100-400 zoom? In general I'm more of a prime lens photographer but for birds I would be more interested in that lens because of versatility and reach. Wanted to ask if you have tried it with the teleconverters, and if you have, whether you noticed any quality compromise. (You had already stated an image quality difference between the prime lens and the zoom, the question is whether image quality is further compromised).

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Joseph I tend to avoid using converters on the 100-400 if possible only if I have great light and can stop down to f11 to help the sharpness at the long end, or for just reference shots. But bare In mind I am very fussy about lenses rendering detail as I prefer primes over zooms also, and the detail from the 200mm f2 is so good it has raised my expectations for lenses to a higher level. The 100-400 is at its sharpest before the long end so I stop down to around f8 if at 400mm. Fuji are bringing out a 150-600mm in 2022 according to Fujirumours (who are very accurate with their predictions) also maybe Sigma might offer something this year, I want to try the Nikon 500pf with a fringer adapter if there isn’t any long prime options in 2021 for Fuji. Kind regards Anthony

    Thanks for your great review. I currently still have an Xt2 and hoped Canon's new EOS R6 would be nice priced. It isn't and the RF system is way more expensive. I like shoot wildlife myself too. The xt2 + 100-400 does this nice unless birds or animals are fast. Did you shot with an XT2 + 100-400 too and would it be a big improvement to justify the 1800 euro for the XT4?

      Hi Defo an improvement with focus speed from the XT2 to XT4 👍

    Should I invest my money for Fuji as a completely new system for wildlife photography or would you recommend it to buy a sony/Canon/Nikon system?

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Elias it really depends on what camera you most enjoy using and what your budget is. You can do a great job with all these systems, I just enjoy the balance of the body and lens size, plus the crop factor with the APSC sensor and lenses. There is no perfect camera, but personally I really enjoy using Fuji cameras with their tactile controls, great colours, and hybrid shooting experience especially now with the X-T4, I am just waiting for them to release the 500mm and 300mm prime lenses they have patented, then that will offer more for wildlife photographers.

    Hi Anthony,
    I've got an Xt2. Did you think this camera is a good combo with the grip + the 100-400mm? (and why not a extender 1,4?)

    • @anthonyhurren5613
      @anthonyhurren5613  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robin It's a good combo but it might struggle a little with fast action wildlife on focus speed and accuracy compared to the X-T4 & X-T3 (with the new firmware update), I occasionally use the 1.4 extender but I personally use it in very good light as you loose a stop of light and a tiny bit of sharpness is sacrificed (like with most extenders)

    Nice work Anthony - your passion for your art shines through the beautiful images you have shared with us. Just made the transition from Nikon to the XT-4 and have to say this is a lovely hybrid camera and it handles superbly well.Much easier to carry around than a DSLR with 200-500mm af lens which i took to the Farne Islands last year ! Thanks for posting such a positive and uplifting review.

    Great video. I'm going to buy a fujifilm camera later in the year. I am lucky enough to have a decent budget so xt4 is looking possible but l also love the xpro3 and x100v. I don't shoot video but I'm still undecided they are all great. I love the simplicity of the xpro3 and x100v. Any tips. Is the xt4 the best all-rounder?
