      They did have him do 2 presets before the release of the Grammatico introduction. So they are WELL aware of his TH-cam influence.

    My HX stomp sits at my desktop as an audio interface, practicing rig and I take it to rehearsal every time. Into an amp, pa, headphones it’s always spot on. My fav piece of gear after my guitar. The interface is amazing and I added my fav IR’s. I just use the screen now for dialing things. Even when I go full tube amp I use it for effects and changing channels on the amp. It’s just brilliant all these years later.

      This makes me think of what I'd like to see in a sort of HX Stomp 2.0, because I find myself using for ever more things, but I've still to use it live, because I haven't played guitar live for three years now. For instance: with the new power amp technology invented by DTU that has now allowed for these ridiculously small amps sich as the new Blackstar ones, it would be cool if the HX Stomp had a tiny internal 5W stereo power amp, and a fourth stomp switch would be great

    First thing what came into my mind regarding the drive preset is that it is similar to the sound of the early years of Foo Fighters. I just copied this into my LT, I could not find it on the Drive or my eyes just slipped through it, thank you John! You are awesome as always!!

    I've been a full tilt high gain Mesa fan boi TM since my teens, but as time goes on I keep finding myself using these ambient style Matchless/Voxy tones more and more.
    It's the kind of sound you can just find yourself getting lost playing for hours with.
    I certainly don't have the money for the real thing so the HX Matchless sounds are the next best thing... perhaps a Badcat may be in my future too as they are in the same realm.

    Wow. I just jumped off from the amp and reverb settings you have here, which for both are not very far from the default settings. You just tweak a couple key parameters and really bring out the sound I want to get out but I guess I'm not smart enough to get it! Anyway, I started with the amp, cab, and reverb here and pulled back the drive and tweaked the mic position for my setup and wow! Yes, this is a winner.

    IMHO the Stomp is brilliant. Best bit of kit I’ve ever owned. So versatile and sounds amazing. My only critism is the naff wall wart power supply which here in France struggles to stay in a wall socket! The delays and reverbs are really nice. Love the Hot Springs reverb. Amp wise I’m messing around with the Princeton with a drive block in front of it. Great video as always.

    Listen to a Victory Copper preamp with effects and IT interface, for driven Voxy. I always hear something digital / crispy, with these modelers, except in the JNC demo of the Ampero Dumble, that was about the best I heard from a modeler. Of course they can’t be beat for the versatility.

    I've been coming back to the Heirapperant OD lately. Its very versatile and has a very low noise component compared to some of the other OD's which I end up having to use a noise gate with. Great tone from the Matchless. Super-cool harmonics!

    • @JohnShalamskas
      @JohnShalamskas ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean about low noise. I have spent some effort finding the lowest noise pedals to use on my board, and how to power them to prevent adding noise via the power line. So when I play with people that have noisy pedalboards, it is annoying to listen to incessant hum/hiss.
      Since I have a King of Tone pedal, I have decided to place it before the Stomp so I can free up a block or two and possibly get better tone in the bargain (modelers have difficulty emulating gain/fuzz pedals.) I also get dedicated knobs to tweak. The downside of this method is that the KoT settings are not saved with the presets, and the extra weight and space needed on the pedal board.

    I shall be dialing this in very soon (or if I run short of time downloading it). I would love to see a video of how you are doing your vids: a pro camera? Are you going in to an interface directly? Are you running it through a DAW? I have it sounding amazing through the headphones, but it sounds pretty wimpy just through my interface/monitors.
    Amazing playing as always; when will you be recording an album (or have you?)?

    I'd love some advice on how to get the tone from my HX Stomp that sounds so good in my earphones, to sound close to the same in a PA.

    • @angrybuzzy
      @angrybuzzy ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think generally it comes down to Fletcher Munson curves - you have to spend some time tweaking the tone at rehearsal/gig volume through your PA. Try rolling off 100hz and lower to leave space for bass and keys. Roll off 5k and above to get rid of the unnatural crispy highs. Those two changes will get you a good starting point to tailor to your taste.

    Based on these reviews I tried a Stomp XL at GC. I was not impressed. Instead, I just grabbed a NUX MG30 for $199 w/2 year warranty from GC. The Stomp does not sound any better IMO and costs more than 3x as much. This unit will hold me over until Fractal updates their ancient UI...then and only then will I go back. The tones were great in the FM9 but not paying nearly 2k for that 1980's display- hard to navigate on unit.

      @@rogerwilliams2629 Very cool. How do you get A into "2" 12" cabs? Another splitter or are they in the same box? I have a radial engineering active ABY so I can do this. I have a Katana Artist 100 watt amp too. I also have two studio monitors and a Fishman Mini. I love stereo effects. On the Fractal FM9 they really sounded great.
      When inside, the monitors honestly do all that I need and more- very clean FRFR tone. If I play outside, I can connect the amp(s.) I also have them in my entertainment system near TV so I can jam along to backing tracks with my 7.1 home theatre. I invested in a REL 1205 12" powered sub which brings the bass alive. I sound like a pro even though I am not!

    • @JohnShalamskas

      @@MOAB-UT Stereo effects rock! I am running a Stomp XL into my old non-HDMI 100 watt per channel home theater amp with a pair of large stereo speakers and a powered 12 inch subwoofer. You can get older home theater amps for a song since everyone has updated to HDMI. Speakers cost a bit more. I happened to upgrade my home theater to larger speakers so I had a spare set lying around. I use the Stomp XL as a USB sound card, so this is also my computer speaker system.
