oh !!! Wow !!! Was on a Drill Team a few ago , but , this does blow it all away !! Not too many can play the other end of Rifle !!! LOL !!! Got to have a sense of Humour !!! Glad to be a Canadian & Happy to have all our Allies !!! OH !! GLAD WE ARE PART OF THE COMMANWEALTH !!! Perhaps , our Ancestors did something right !! God Bless us & You all !!!
the Canadians are fantastic. they did a phenomenal job in both world wars, and i personally feel we owe them so much for what they did. and i'm so grateful and proud we can say they are in the Commonwealth. thank you Canada.
@beguilyn hey just a note for future reference, the van doos aren't reservist. theyre reg force. However canadian soldiers, are amazing as they are at drill (world class) we do spend more time training for what a soldier is really called for.
as you point out the royal 22nd rgt are not a guards unit,as are the governor generals footguards or the canadian grenadier guards or the canadian guards in ottowa but i always thought that the 22nd, princess patricias canadian light infantry and the royal canadian regiment were all part of the regular forces,i may be out of date,in this and so much else.the British footguards and these guys can be told apart easily, there are two dozen little deatails you can see,but they do a great job! mart
The R22e aren't baton twirling rifle acrobats whose sole job it is to throw rifles. I would bet a lot of these men have seen real combat. Hats off to you gentlemen, very good performance!
my father was RAF in the war (ww2) and as a boy i asked him who were the toughest soldiers he ever saw during his time and he said the canadians....some of those boys form the backwoods must have made an impression.......marty
the USMC silent drill platoon uses the M1 Garand which is clip-fed and semi-automatic not bolt-action. We use old rifles as a tradition. Also because those old rifles are easier to drill with. Remember we don't just hold our rifles and occasionally slide them into a different position, we perform exhibition with them.
Canada is still very much tied to Britain our head of state is the Queen Also RCR (Royal Canadian Regiment) and the Royal 22nd Regiment our beloved French Canadians or the Van Doos). All have the Queen as their head. The PPCLI is (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry) Prince Charles Colonel-in-Chief of Canadian Forces regiments Even PRINCE ANDREW, PRINCE EDWARD are heads of Canadian regiments, we are proud to be part of the British Commonwealth and it shows.
good to see the french wearing the red coat __ thanks to our conquering fathers who built this country , --oops i hope that didnt hurt to much! Vive la Canada and the Commonwealth !
Canadian Army Drill is based, like most other Commonwealth Nations armed forces drill on standard British army drill. But the drill code constantly changes with minor variations every few years (it's a pain in the ass) and so over time the two countries drill have diverged a little.
Le royal 22 régiment est un régiment 100% français et c'est le sang de la Mère patrie qui coule dans nos veines, ceci sans vouloir offenser. D'ailleurs toutes les interprétations ici sont des chansons puisées du répertoire francophone.
@alvindurochermtl Quite right - and when the Canadian Guards were 'disbanded' (actually 'reduced to nil strength' as they are still on the Order of Battle) their full dress uniforms were given to The Governor-General's Foot Guards, The Canadian Grenadier Guards, The Royal Regiment of Canada....and the Van Doo's.
Oh you are so fun to piss off because the more you argue, the worse you get at come backs. Ah thank you for giving me such a good laugh over these past few days. I'd shake your hand if I could. Good day, God bless you.
It's actually pretty well established tradition to play the post horn gallop through a rifle. This is especially favoured for its entertainment value. As for the soloist, he is actually quite talented. His rapid tonguing near the end is quite impressive, as is his tone (considering he IS playing through a rifle). I have seen this done before at many a mess dinner, and the force one must play with to obtain significant volume is impressive. This soloist holds his ground well. You try it!
HAHAHAHA that guy is actually playing a rifle good job !!! No rly if that thing is in every other marching band I wouldn't have ditched it in high school lol :D
@Mac3622 avoiding useless talk about termage, it's basically because it's exhibition, and is designed to look good. Just like your formation marching does complex maneuvers, we do complex maneuvers with our weapons. It also shows greater precision and practice than simple marching. In addition to memorizing steps, keeping dress and cover, and staying in step, you must also be focused enough to move the rifle about your body in a sharp, fluid motion.
@nrk98 you're comparing the last in order of precedence of the Canadian Infantry to the Royal Guards of Norway, there's a huge difference in terms of priorities and funds for the two different groups.
Red is the traditional colour of Commonwealth Armies going back hundreds of years. It is particularly considered an infantry colour - so much so that the red infantry sash is still worn and infantry typically wear rear lanyards on their uniforms still. So do you prefer dark blue or grey uniforms, Yankee?
@TheLloydA1 Not sure if they are based on the British but our military was adapted from the British so there are similarities as are all Commonwealth countries.
damn. if the US navy drill team was this easy... O.o We spin rifles with fixed bayonets and throw them simultaneously to the other person. That's hard enough. But with an officer walking through the middle of the lines when you're doing that takes lots of skill. Search "US Navy Presidential Ceremonial Honor Guard at Norway". That video shows what our drill team is like. Good show, Canadian friends - blowing a rifle is something we can't do. lol.
@crazycamel345 Thanks for the comment, I like how most Canadians aren't racist. (I'm from the Middle-East). Do you think there are a lot of racist people in Canada? (just a question)
@mrpaintballhead They never had the title, there's the Royal Canadian Air force, Royal Canadian Navy, and the Canadian Army. I know this because i'm a member of the Canadian Army.
Straightly speaking they aren't even wearing Guards uniform though they might look similiar. Historically the R22eR includes elements which were fusilliers so what they are wearing here in fact isn't Guards bearskins but a shorter version ceremonial headdress called the fusilier cap. Their officers wear their capbage at the front of the cap whereas Guards never wear their capbages on their bearskins.
@BurntTag The Marines are good at everything they do but I bet that the Marine Drill Team works at it year round. These soldiers are reservists who are hired for the summer. Considering they have about six weeks of drill training, I'd say they're not too shabby.
@Alex911TheCanadian Sir, I have read very disrespectful comments on this video. As a Scotsman with family in Ontario, no Canadian need justify himself to anyone after the sacrifice of Ypres, Messines, Somme , Paschendaele(spellling!) or N. Atlantic convoys. I had the privelidge of spending a summer in Canada in´99, wonderful country and wonderful people, God Bless Canada.
Why do these soldiers step off on the right foot rather than the left? I have always been taught to step off on the left... it's now completely ingrained.
I just found something really cool so when the red coat is put on it is called to have mounted the King's Guard/Queen's Guard with the primary purpose of protecting the Sovereign thats why Commonwealth countries have them protecting the parliament because that is the home of the Sovereigns representative the governor General. Look up Kings or Queens guard you will find it.
Im a Canadian, they did a might fine job. I find it funny though how they are in Like, well Whatever uniform that looks old, yet they are holding i think a C8 or a M Weapon
At Inkerman there were 8,500 French troops and 7,200 British troops. So that was 50/50 - by far not only your victory. It's funny how those who fought with you are ignored by you all the time. And it was not only the firepower which repelled Russians but also orders given by the Prince which were falsely understood by the generals (the Prince meant to prepare for the attack and not to start it).
Charlie girl, whats with this British Royal Palace Guards??do you think this is all they do?presently in Afganistan, and they will be Trooping The Colour in June
If a party is neutral there is no need in it for a government. Thus, it's not really neutral, but seems neutral as long as there are no disasters, crises or wars. I totally agree with you on George Bush being king for the USA. I would say - the American President, this office itself is a sort of a monarch having a majority backing him both in the Senate and in the Congress and thus fusing the legislative and the executive powers. He also appoints the judges...
@mrpaintballhead In the Army Regiments can earn the title Royal in front of the Regiment name like my Regiment, during World War I the Newfoundland Regiment earned the title Royal due to loses they suffered on the battled field. I was always the Canadian Army and the Regiments earned Royal. The Navy and Air Force had Royal in their title.
BTW,there is a battle which is completely ignored by the British history books - the Battle of Petropavlovsk of 18 August 1854 which is also part of the Crimean War (in fact, both this battle and the Crimean War were parts of a much bigger British russophobe plan). In that battle, the French and the British had 2,600 troops against Russia's 920, 218 cannons againt 67 Russian. Russian losses: 100, yours: 500 dead. British commander rear admiral David Price committed suicide to avoid disgrace.
You must see the FIJI Red coats same empire but different Uniforms kind of like the Scottish but white skirts not kilts. Looks cool though show how diverse the Empire really was and the commonwealth is but the Red coats were and are all the same.
@iwillneverpostavideo Okay, in the USMC Drill team video I couldn't make it out clearly. However , as impressive their twirling action is, I can't see a reason for it. The Canadian military is based on the British tradition, where the drills are based on formation marching. These drills served the Brits well, as well for other countries that marched in the age of musket. Drilling teaches discipline. So, why do the Marines use their guns as batons?
@jadger1871 lol no. american drill it is easier to see mistakes because there are less people on the teams(ranging from 24 to just 1 driller) and we SPIN rifles. it's easy to see someone drop a rifle, or fumble it.
Well, I wouldn't say so. The acting head of state - the governer general, is appointed by the Queen, as well as the lieutenant-governors of all provinces. The Queen and the governors also approve all the appointments of the Prime-Minister. No matter who is more powerful - the UK or the US - for the mentality of a person of a real independent country having someone from abroad to appoint or approve the officials in your state means you are some sort of province of a different country.
It is The Canadian Army, Not Royal. The Regiment is given the Honour of Royal Twenty Second. Their favourite weapon is the boot and web belt. For years they were the only regiment in the Commonwealth giving and receiving orders in French
oh !!! Wow !!!

Our enemy now are those who oppose the commonwealth here. We’ll manage
This simply enhances Canada's relationship with the Commonwealth...
@beguilyn hey just a note for future reference, the van doos aren't reservist. theyre reg force. However canadian soldiers, are amazing as they are at drill (world class) we do spend more time training for what a soldier is really called for.

Yeah, I was on a company cadet drill team back in 06, but... It really doesn't compare. Just fantastic.

WOOT GO CANADA! BROTHERS IN ARMS, NOW AND FOREVER!!! from Australia. LONG LIVE THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH!
If I haven't said this about the video, then I appologize. I really enjoyed this drill team. Very clean and very percise.
we know you would, its the bond our nations share. thank you for you kind reassurance. you really are wonderful people.
Canada is still very much tied to Britain our head of state is the Queen

-Germany & Australia
To each army it's own style. They sign a blank check and go where too many are afraid to go.
The queens soldiers look smart. They are a little like the grenadiers at buckingham palace. Fantastic nation canada.
The Vandoo's and the Pats.... Two of the best Regiments in Canada. Thank-you for your service gentlemen.
You don't get to see the Regiments do silent/music drill often.
Always a good show.~~~
This was a Great(Magnifique) Performance,R22eR. Bravo!
Great Vid, Great Show!
Thanks for uploading.
All the best

Good stuff, keep the videos coming. :D
Just noticed how some of them look like goose stepping when they come to a halt.
good to see the french wearing the red coat __ thanks to our conquering fathers who built this country , --oops i hope that didnt hurt to much! Vive la Canada and the Commonwealth !
Long live the vandoos! Vive les 22 :)
C est magnifique bravo je vous aime
tres bon!
very good

Canadians make the best soldiers in the world.
That was so cool! Good Job Canada! :) how do you play the M11 so good, I do not know how you can even play that, wow!

Great performance!!! LoL!!! greetings from Argentina!!! :D
That was amassing. I wonder how some solder figured out that you could make music from a Lee en field mark 2.
Joining the reserve because I'm still in university and plans a full time services with the CF after!

Royal 22e Régiment is a french regiment based out of valcartier Quebec
Just so you know our Drill team is made solely from our band.
@Anghellik9 No, there are using the new C7A2 without the scopes. However the old FN with wood and chrome would look great for a drill team
the guy playing the wooden thing near the end is a BOSS!
@ssmindky-- so sad- nice speach man . You can be your country's next president with those powerful words. Keep it up Jethro!
@nrk98 you're comparing the last in order of precedence of the Canadian Infantry to the Royal Guards of Norway, there's a huge difference in terms of priorities and funds for the two different groups.
Well done R22eR, C'est Bon!!
C'sdt Bon=It's Good!

EXCELLENT
@TheLloydA1 The uniforms were adopted from those of The Foot Guards (Household Division).
so true, hard, but so much fun in a drill team
@Nachhoocheese For the record, the D-Day beaches were Utah and Omaha (US), Gold and Sword (UK), and Juno (Canada)... That makes 5, not 4...
@TheLloydA1 Not sure if they are based on the British but our military was adapted from the British so there are similarities as are all Commonwealth countries.
My old Regiment, was with them in Germany, Bosnia and at the Citadel in Quebec City. 15 yrs

I was talking to you, how is that talking to myself? You replied, which is evident we're conversing.
Good to see their using real rifles, I take it they are SLR's or should I have gone to specsavers?
Perfect THX
@BurntTag The Marines are good at everything they do but I bet that the Marine Drill Team works at it year round. These soldiers are reservists who are hired for the summer. Considering they have about six weeks of drill training, I'd say they're not too shabby.
that is the Royal 22nd Ceremonial Dress, has been for awhile.

Greets from the US. How are you, my neighbors?

Vary Nice! What with the hats? There has to be a story behind them anyone know?
Much Love From The USA!!
@doubleestark that IS our original, remember where we come from
Very nice!
I despise "Slow March" so much. Good thing I only need to do it for drill team and funerals. (I'm an Air Cadet)
Lol cadets and already hating slow marches? You gonna have a bad time.
army cadet never have to slow March
Cause you've never been on the Drill team.
Canada is the best.
Good luck from America.
@doubleestark what's in your mind that would be "original"? Wearing the native Indian's feature bonnet?
the 22e Regiment Also known as the Van Doo's resides in Quebec, most of them probably speak french.
What a refreshingly surprising idea. I whish I could play the rifle, too.
Why do these soldiers step off on the right foot rather than the left? I have always been taught to step off on the left... it's now completely ingrained.
Regimental drill. They have a special halt move.
Break(slap with the right)-shoot(left)-bang

Look again real close. the rifle he is playing is a Lee En field. And the rifles being carried are the c-7

Interesting. The US Marine Corps drill team only uses old fashion bolt action rifles. The Canadians use the C7, the actual rifle used in combat.
You must see the FIJI Red coats same empire but different Uniforms kind of like the Scottish but white skirts not kilts. Looks cool though show how diverse the Empire really was and the commonwealth is but the Red coats were and are all the same.

@BurntTag its funny cause "u use a rifle to kill not to toss around like a toy", as my old platoon sgt would say
