- U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) units are currently deploying commercially modified Kawasaki KLX110L/KLX110R L mini-bikes in austere environments. These mini-bikes are used for airfield operations and are small and light enough to be deployed by parachute, attached to the side of a helicopter, or stowed in the rear of a vehicle.

112cc 4-stroke single, SOHC, air-cooled dirt bike. I rode a 1970 Suzuki TS 250cc 2-stroke enduro in high school every day for years.
They must be being punished or something and not allowed to ride normal big boy dirt bikes or maybe funding cuts due to not having enough money because we sent it all to Ukraine and Israel and now we are stuck with pit bikes like idiots
@@BeardOperatorI have Kawasaki KLX 150cc, and those Kawasaki mini is more expensive, the price tag is 2x than my Kawasaki KLX.
Not to mention if they do specification upgrades on those mini for military purposes, it would add cost 3x-4x than normal dirt bike. So it's definitely not because the funding cut.
In a end of the world scenery this is the bike I would ride
@ ok but let’s see it as relative, I’m 6’6 235, yes a normal size guy might be able to ride it and have it perform but no guy my size would ever fit on a 4 stroke 150 cc pit bike. I do fit on my buddies drz 650 though
@@BeardOperator
Those bikes are not in a Combat zone. Those bikes were meant for faster transportation (faster than walking or running) during Airstrip's set-up.
They weren't out there trying to Outrun Bullets and Missiles.
However, I am sure they're highly trained to cover that, if ever an attack come to them.
I had the same bike. I rode through deep sand, gravel fire roads, dry rocky streams, hot asphalt and single track mountain trails. Weighed 195 lbs at the time. All I had to do was put on a taller seat and handlebars than the stock ones.
This is a great idea. There are kits to punch out the motor even more. All I had to do is lift it by hand into the back of my pickup truck. Just wish it was street legal. I’d still have it today.

Klx110 seems small but i guess thats the point. Lighter to haul around and "one size fits all" kinda deal. I have the klx300 and its great. Either way its still better than rolling around on rollerblades.
I have a Yamaha xt250 and I love it. I was surprised and how capable and handy bikes in the 250-300cc range really are.
Bigger bikes are only needed when comparing wiener sizes out on the trails. These guys have nothing to prove, so they just need what gets the job done.

We use the Honda crf 110s for the same thing where I fly. While the manual clutch of the Kawasaki is nice for racing, I’m surprised they picked that over the Honda’s centrifugal clutch, which allows you to operate one handed.
Plus the Honda is fuel injected and far more responsive than the klr and ttr

airfield in a box is a pretty cool capability, that C-130 could easily also be carrying munitions for the F-35 so it can basically land anywhere flat enough for a runway in less than 30 mins refuel rearm, and then take off again. And then everyone loads up into the C130 and flys back to the main air base to restock.
"anywhere flat enough for a runway"....for an F-35...??? So, er, that would be an existing runway then...🙄🙄🤡🙄

Lightweight means it's, easy to handle, easy to transport, easy to pick up, fast enough for what you need, has enough horsepower to pull you and your gear almost anywhere, good fuel economy, affordable to purchase and to maintain, and you are out very little if you lose it and most of all.... it's a blast to ride especially when your racing C-130's!

The 110cc with all that weight fully kitted must be struggling
You can make em pretty powerful. Or even just changing the gearing can give a lot more torque
@ I get that but the manual on these 110cc normally say the weight limit is around 100lbs-115lbs. Now thinking about it I guess you could upgrade the shocks to help with that.

Russian troops in Ukraine are using Kalashnikov designed and built ELECTRIC dirt bikes in battlefield operations VERY successfully.
They are set up in various configurations depending on the operation.
Electric bikes are light weight, make little noise, insignificant heat signature at night, fewer parts and easy to maintain in the field requiring fewer support and maintenance staff. Plus they’re less expensive to build.

Maybe in the civilian world, we need to leave the last amount of footprint or dust being seen the smaller the wheels the less footprint we leave or get seen, with the lowest form of fuel consumption. US Army 173rd airborne brigade, 16th year of service in January. I’d love to see your army GT score if you enlisted, you’d get offered the MOS of WD40 or TRT a trash receptacle trooper, a janitor with a mop instead of a rifle
This is the best option for the weight requirement, I reckon. You could always bore and tune it.
Yamaha Big Wheel... BW200 or Honda Fat Cat.. Just have to go back to 1986 to buy some!
Virtue of the small bike is that it is much easier to wrestle over an obstacle than a big bike. They used to use KLR 650s, but not for long, too cumbersome.
a soldier needs a 125cc or bigger with that much gear. that is very underpowered for combat.

The colombians had been usig dirt bikes for several years , mostly as scouts and convoy scorts , but the russians are the ones who are squeezing all the potential of dirt bikes and quads lately, they began using bikes buyed by the soldiers then by the army , all kind of russian , european and chinese bikes are used, first they begun to use them as scouts then as infiltration of small 3 or 5 guys teams , the bikes are also used for diversionary atacks and to resupply forward trenches and isolated positions , now they are using electric bikes also , the quads are used for recon , medevac, resuply and direct fire armed with 30 mm automatic grenade launchers and Kornet antitank misiles as well as drone teams.

After many years of thinking about this, I have to agree. Smaller bikes equal less injury but and more mobility than full size bikes. Just a matter of time until we have small electric pit bikes with 100+ mile range.
