I don't know how I ran across this, but I haven't seen a Beech 18 flying in years. There was an old boy who restored them back in the 70's in central Ca. He was offering a fully furbished with zero time engines and props for 20k if you can believe that! The good ole days.
Thanks for sharing with us such a beautiful plane owned by a wonderful man you have a beautiful family and I appreciate you sharing those pictures at the end
i would of given anything to have my son fly with me my wife was terrified of flying so i went the boating route and dirt bikes its such a blessing watching the you and your son flying together
I have a lot of hours in a D18, used to fly one for American aviation out of Flint Michigan back in the 60's hauling freight for GM & Ford mostly during Change Over we were so busy, I'd take a student with me to fly the plane, so I cld get some sleep. I'd tell them to just hold the Altitude & Heading if you have a problem wake me up. One time we were on an Altitude of 10k, I woke up and we were down to 5k & the student was a sleep also, Yikes.!! We didn't have an autopilot in those old machines, we also had a C46 to haul bigger loads, to South America, ie Peru & other country's Oil Well equipment, even Special Cattle some times to Costa Rica, that were breed to live in hot weather.
Thank you for this little trip which for me, was very informative. Indeed, I write a" Noir novel" where after having made escape a prison inmate, my protagonists divert a Beechcraft 18. The vision on the dashboard and the manipulations that you carried out there were very useful to me to give life to my text. Thank you. Petit message venu de France.
Really enjoyed the video. I get to live the Twin Beech dream through you. Good advice on using the trim to your advantage rather than ignore it. Beautiful clouds along the way. I'm guessing bumpy clouds are not a problem? She looks like a very stable aircraft. I just had a thought about how few, if any, Beech 18's are flying on corporate type business like yours. Wow. Any idea how many are flying cargo or otherwise?
It really isn't that most people don't use the trim as much as they don't use it enough. They'll get it close and then fly the plane but generally if I ask them to let go of the yoke the plane doesn't keep flying level.
You own my 2 favorite airplanes i could only imagine having a beech 18 and a aero commandet !! You are a lucky man ! I have a freind in north carolina that jas a t6 680 commander that took me for a ride it was great you enjoy that 18 its a classic !!
What a fantastic video. Scenery was amazing. Hope you are healing well.

Surfing the Clouds in a Beech..awesome!!
I maintained a small fleet of Piper Navajo's in Alaska back in the 90's and the autopilots were always giving us problems on those aircraft
Very nice. Congratulations on the beautiful plane and family.

Don't really know about corporate side but they are a dream to fly. Glad you enjoy them.
Nice video. It's surprising to me that you'd have to tell some pilots to use the trim...like...isn't that a given??

Glen have you sold the commander yet
No, about to get it listed though. Was waiting to make sure the 18 was the right match for me. I do still love the Commander though.
