I probably commented abit late on that one,so im not sure you noticed it. But i promised you,that you would love the song even more by hearing that performance of it. Its actually a mini concert chopped up into several video parts,where alot of the songs you have already reacted to studio wise,are part of the concert. He did that scared of heights performance at 07:50 in the morning,you can tell by his eyes that he is still feeling very tired,so the fact that he sang it that flawlessly,just proves even more what a outstanding vocalist he truly is! If you let that run to 5:10 on the timeline,you will see 3 front row beauties telling the camera team where they are from (3 Italian friends from different places,coming together and travelling to Norway just to see Morten) If you want to watch that small part by yourself,or as part of the reaction is up to you. Its a very sweet way of ending the performance on. But i can also tell you what Morten starts talking about right after,he says: "I have never really liked the word fan,because its a media created terminology of a group of people in an attempt to make them sound alike,but the truth is they are really not alike at all. He basically means there is people from all backgrounds,all religions and cultures,in different stages in life and so on,so he does not like to categorize them at all. Wich a guy like Prince said before Morten,he said: I dont call them fans,because its short for fanatic and its a bad word to be calling people that does such nice things for you,so i call them my friends,because they are buying your songs,going to your concerts,buying merch,sending you mail,doing things you would only expect true friends to do. So i just felt like adding that,as it shows abit more of Mortens sweet,inclusive and warm personality. That short Input about his fans,then leads into them playing Spanish Steps,that is why Mortens face turns into a giant smile,because he talks about his supporters in such a nice way.
It is not easy to find good live recordings of Morten with large audiences. He obviously does not have the same ambitions as a-ha to film his own concerts. What you can find is footage from a TV studio, usually from Norway with the associated quiet, Norwegian audience. You do have the concert from Studio 1. Otherwise, there is a recording of "We'll never speak again" (which is a really nice song he got from Magne) from "VG-lista i Spikersuppa" in Oslo, which is an event where artists who are at the top of the list in Norway participate. The audience is not the "right" one there either, because they are young - and they don't listen to Morten Harket. They are therefore not very enthusiastic. Then there is a concert from 2012, Sommer Open Air. What you can find from concerts are amateur recordings with varying image and sound quality. Otherwise age catches up with Morten too. It took time, but in the last couple of years he has aged more than before. I recommend "Burn money burn", "Brodsky Tune" and the mentioned "We'll never speak again".
Spanish Steps was originally called 5000 Miles and was written by Torstein Flakne (norwegian guitarist and singer) and he showed the song for his bandmates in Stage Dolls but I think they rejected it. The song was later recorded as a instrumental on Ole Edvard Antonsen's "Tour De Force" in 1992 and so recorded and the lyric was rewritten with Håvard Rem and Morten Harket in 1995. You should check out Stage Dolls. a great norwegian hardrock trio
