It's an apathy drug. If your life is a dumpster fire, which means it is very stressful, it can help you care less and finally relax. It doesn't put the fire out, and as long as you use it, you probably won't be incentivized to put the fire out either (because it isn't bothering you), and that's where the long term harm can be.

This is surely true for some, but is also a major projection. Can people abuse a substance and not address underlying issues? Absolutely. Binge eating ice cream or chocolate, or watching TV for hours every night, solves zero problems either. Sometimes a little puff puts things in perspective and helps people avoid those, or worse, detrimental behaviors. In many cases, responsible use aids in taking active and proactive approaches to problems, as a calm mind can reflect and contemplate solutions.

I don’t necessarily disagree with this because I’ve seen it in action with my family and some friends. At the same time I think saying this as a broad statement that applies to everyone is inaccurate since weed affects everyone so differently. Some people it makes them total zombies and is highly addictive, others not so much.

I've smoked weed regularly since 1973. At age 67, I'm on no pharmaceutical medication, my blood pressure
Is perfect, and my lung capacity is fine. I'm also a fully functioning citizen, albeit more open-minded than the general population. That said, I think chronic abuse of weed, like any substance, is a bad idea.

Especially with the super high THC concentrated stuff suppliers and dealers. If the bud aint balanced, neither will you. Smoking 🚬 a couple of times a week of your own homegrown to relax in the evenings or whenever you're with friends is okay. Noon til night all the time is a nightmare scenario and anyone who thinks it's okay needs to go through it to learn moderation is a good idea.

I did spend huge amounts of money and that I regret. My life revolved around partying and getting stoned, now I care about my health and my family. Weed is an off and on thing. It’s either to relax, gym, drive, work, or hobbies. It can help me focus or just let loose. Just don’t smoke too much and depend on it. Can’t do it in the morning since it sucks for me. It can also help me understand my emotions through a different perspective, accepting them. Plus after weed I grew to dislike alcohol and drink less of it. Also don’t smoke 2-3 hours before sleep.

Also, my financial health would take a huge hit, no pun intended 😏 At the end of the day, unless you are of a small percentage, there's a really good chance you'll get stuck in the dopamine deficit cycle and end up a slave to a plant. I can look back and see how much damage it did to my health, my mind, my life choices, my finances, and my spirit. There is value in keeping out minds naturally functioning and finding healthy ways to cope with stress and emotional pain. As a result of a healthier lifestyle, I'm 40lbs lighter. The issue is the toxic relationship we have with productivity and proficiency. We didnt evolve to be at 100% all the fucking time. Our species has always used drugs to relax. The issue is not having enough time to enjoy your life before you have to go back to work. We get one day where we can truly rest and its spent getting ready for the work week. Lots of things we do reduce cognitive abilities, like not having ample leisure time, which leads to burnout.

Years ago (2016) I smoked some marijuana in my garage to escape the stress of life (this was my common practice at the time) but for whatever reason, this time I was deeply struck with the question "Why did you do this?" And not in some superficial way. My mind was not satisfied with simple answers like "because it feels good", etc... which I guess may have sufficed before. I was haunted by the question in fact. For whatever reason, a "switch flipped" and since that day I have never been able to consume mj without embarking on a sort of profound inquiry about my deepest unconscious motivations, my trauma, my latent desires. Yes, I have dipped my toe in the waters here and there over the years since then, but I can no longer use marijuana as I did before and I have no desire to do so either. Perhaps it is a blessing and a curse, but thankfully nowadays there is no fear attached to the idea of actually looking inward. I have spent the years since exploring my trauma and defense mechanisms through meditation, specifically self-inquiry. I wonder if this happens to others? Will you share if you have some type of similar experience? Love to all. 🙏🙏🙏

I self medicated my adhd with it, it helps momentarily because of the dopamine hit you get from it but in the long term causes chronic depression. If anything it's just occupational therapy and outside of their scope. They shouldn't make up words to describe thing other practitioners do. "Makes my intrusive thoughts blinding" is exactly my experience with weed, more than half the time. Even so, I have still been a chronic smoker. And I have noticed my anxiety is 10x worse in periods that I am smoking daily for momths/years at a time, than it was in periods of my sobriety that were longer than 2 months. But once I start smoking again, it only takes about a month for the anxiety to come back.
This last quit-start cycle I had, I was sober for 6 months and got a job that was stressful but manageable. Started smoking again, and within 2-3 months I was too anxious to go to work a lot of days, and ended up quitting when the anxiety made me throw up otherwise unprompted while on the job.
Even so I still smoke. I would say my relationship with it is very negative and addictive, but I don't drink alcohol or do anything else but maybe eat a bit too much sometimes, so it's hard to crack down on because the negative effects aren't as obvious as, for example, blacking out drunk and something bad happening would signal someone to stop drinking or drink less. With weed, the negative effects can be so subtle, or I feel so used to it that I don't notice it over time. Frog boiling in a pot phrase here.
It really is something I need to put away for the rest of my life, I am just trying to find the why that outweighs the want.

I've never been so utterly repulsed by the smell of weed and the thought of being high in my life as much I did when I tripped on 8G of PE psychedelics for several hrs. That really overwhelmingly exhausting feeling in my head from persistent weed smoking came back to haunt me and I swear the shrooms were begging me to quit smoking. I got a whif of my roommate's smoke session while tripping and the scent of weed had never repulsed me so much in my life ever before. Cannabis helps relieve the stress and anxiety of life sucking and living with multiple felonies regarding marijuana. The only problem with marijuana is that it is illegal. I don't play video games. So misdemeanor simple possession no longer exists, it's possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and that's a felony. Then they can charge you with multiple felonies if you say have weed and wax and a cart. Now you have three felony possession of a controlled substance. Sin how did you get the wax? Surely your manufacturing it which is a whole nother felony ... Then they added distribution. On top of that, if you have you know more than a consumable in one sitting amount. I think the most negative aspect of cannabis is its weird legal status. I think a lot of anxiety from using it is the fear of getting arrested or the societally-imposed thinking of it being super harmful. Scanning through the comments, I’ve noticed that many of the negative comments are from those who started using WAY too young, who had an addictive personality to begin with, or have some other form of guilt associated with using it. All of which could be greatly reduced with comprehensive legalization. This would keep it out of the hands of minors, greatly reduce the cost(if it’s legal, companies cultivating it would be able to write off business expenses, thereby lowering their overhead) and those who have a substance abuse problem would be able to seek out help without the fear of prosecution or incarceration. It would also remove a lot of the stigma that is surprisingly still attached to the plant. It would open up the doors to greater levels of research which would put to rest unfounded assumptions, both negative and positive. So legalization is key and beneficial for those who both have a positive outlook on it AND for those who want to see an overall reduction in its use.

While I do agree, I also would like to state that the opposite can ALSO be true. After about a 6 year haiatus, I started using weed this spring. Before I started using, I had a cigarette addiction and a soda/sugar/processed food addiction.
I have ADD/ADHD symptoms and often struggle with getting dopamine, basically I'm a stimulation junky. So, before I started smoking I was overweight and incredibly very inflamed. Because of the stimulation I got from weed, I was able to quit drinking soda altogether and started eating one meal a day. I also quit smoking cigarettea and NOW for the last few weeks I've gotten started on a carnivore diet, I'm down 50 pounds since around May and I have no inflammation.
Just wanted to say, I am someone who understands weed can be harmful, but in my use case I have found it incredibly helpful to actually eliminate other addictive behavior.
One thing I know was a HUGE help, I was able to give up soda/caffeine with essentially zero side-effects which I largely credit to my cannabis use. Other times when I have tried to quit, I've experienced terrible headaches and energy swings.

Ik it’s case by case but it seems that weed has helped more people than it’s hurt, and there’s also a handful of the population that just know they don’t like it.
Also I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, I love getting high and learning about nutrition and health.

You can absolutely recognize that it’s holding you back if you’re rebounding into anxiety or depressive states without it and know you’re capable of learning to regulate that for yourself and recognize that you’ve developed a dependency on it. I did. Quit that and cigarettes full stop over two years ago. People can be in denial about it, but our bodies are made to know what’s what, and our minds are not separate from that. We need to have conversations based on those scientifically proven facts.

Addiction, depression, anxiety are normal reactions to a world ravaged by climate change, war, capitalism, facism, poverty etc. I'm not going to feel guilty for smoking weed. It's better than opioids and self harm IMHO.

I beg to differ on the alcohol stand with relationships. It happens too with couples who were addicted to weed too. My partner and formed a bond over weed. It was not healthy for me and I became christian and gave it up for good. Well since I am the only sober one now the relationship has been harder. It doesn't matter what substance it is it's an addiction. And it can ruin your relationships.

I think it's really important to remember that even though 'producers' have been striving for more potent marijuana strains - people who use marijuana aren't all using the same potency. In it's most basic manifestation - there might be a massive difference when using the leaves from a plant and using the efflorescence. And there are, I've noticed, big variations in the latent potency of available strains. I don't believe that everybody who uses it necessarily goes after the strongest they can find. People seeking to self destruct - they might go for the most potent form of weed they can find. Many people aren't trying to self destruct. They might be trying to gently enhance and ameliorate their lives. If I wanted to self destruct - I'd use alcohol. I know alcohol can totally neutralise the job of higher brain function. Even just a couple of glasses of wine and I'm ready to do things that there is no way I would want to do otherwise.

I have been smoking for about 3 years now, not full time tho. The thing is i am well versed in philosophy i do lots of aports, go to the gym and i am overall happy. I have learnt much about my life and how i want to live my life. But weed has helped me deal with unnecessary family drama. It got to a point even where when i was smoking that was just 100% me time, i go to college. I work in the weekends and when i' home my family starts discussions with me for some small reasons. And its just too draining if you got to argue over small things. In this aspect marihuanna has really helped me chill out. This was the only time i can just 100% relax. Cause i willingly place myself at home at the bottom. Not because im a people pleaser but because, it is the virtuous thing to do. I do this from my own volition. And i never start small arguments with them over things that they are doing that bother me, cause i learn to accept it. And it are just trivial things so why even begjn arguing about stuff like that yk

I've quit weed, alcohol and nicotine, and by far one of the most alleviating feelings I have is that I simply do not need to obtain any of them anymore. With a drug of choice you always need to have it, be scheduled to go get it on time, and you worry if you have enough or if you'll run out before the fun is up.

This is too one sided for my taste.
I don't want to downplay the risks of Cannabis usage, and especially young people should be a lot more aware of those.
However, I also cannot ignore how much Cannabis has helped me. Especially in high stress times and depression. It's a powerful medicine, but misused most of the time.
The problem with only involving psychiatrist in the discussion is that they see the most problematic cases.
They dont see the down to earth engineer, carpenter or doctor who smokes occasionally. They should promote healthy usage, not constantly poke on the risks.

    • @thathanka

Throughout the whole video many of the doctors did mention that not everyone reacts in such a way, but it's detrimental for many people because marijuana is paraded as the "good" or "healthy" drug when it's really the CBD (canniboid) part of the drug that has benefits.
The only way to help people who struggle the negative sides of marijuana is education on it. It's not a personal attack, it's just information that's important to acknowledge.
People constantly talk about the misuse and negative effects of stimulants (i.e. adderall, ritalin, etc...), and as someone who has a prescription for one, I completely understand and appreciate the conversations around that. What may be medication for me, may send others into mania or drug induced psychosis.
It's important to recognize that marijuana is just like any medication; it isn't for everyone.
