  • Part one of my drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway from Nashville, TN to Tupelo, MS with stops at view points, waterfalls, and historic sites.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a 444 mile (715 km) long scenic drive through the states of Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. It was established by the National Park Service in 1938 and besides scenic views, the parkway is loaded with thousands of years of history from the first Native Americans to establish trade routes to the Gulf of Mexico to America’s westward expansion and the famous 19th Century Americans who traveled its paths.
For this road trip, my wife and I started at the Norther Terminus of the parkway near Nashville, TN and drove south almost immediately reaching the Birdsong Hollow and the amazing Double Arch Bridge.
Continuing south, the scenery was beautiful with many tree covered ridges and hollows. Stops came fast and furious with highlights including the Gordon House, Jackson Falls and Fall Hollow Falls (the only two waterfalls along the entire route). We also stopped in at the Meriwether Lewis camp ground and historic site. It is here that famous American Meriwether Lewis died and is buried.
We then continued down the trace through beautiful country until we crossed into Alabama and made a stop at Rock Springs. What a gorgeous site for wildflowers and pollinators. We also stopped at the Tennessee River crossing before having to detour off the Parkway due to road construction.
The detour took us west into Mississippi before turning south where we rejoined the Parkway at Bay Springs. After getting back on the Parkway we almost immediately stopped at the fascinating Pharr Mounds which are 2000 year old Native American structures.
We then crossed Black Belt farmland and many sloughs and creek bottoms before coming to the end of Day 1 of our journey just north of Tupelo, MS.

That's awesome! I bet that is a fun trip. We saw and talked to a lot of riders along the way as well. 👍

I've done some hikes along the section between the war of 1812 memorial and the Meriwether Lewis spot. Very nice section.

Cool! I saw that there is a couple mile hike there and was tempted to do it. Added it to me "to do" list. Thanks for watching! 👍
