    This one might go viral! What makes it unique is the fact that you were able to break down 2 separate fighters from the same camp at once and show how 2 different fighters from different camps used virtually the same strategy to beat both guys. That’s a very intriguing dynamic to a film study. Not to mention, IT’S CANELO!!

    Thats what quality fight review looks like!
    I would also like to point out that, even in the moments when high guard traps were supposed to work, both Dmitry and Shakur were too far away most of the times and Canelos and Oscars footwork is just too slow.
    The thing that surprised me the most about Bivol fight, was that he decided to stay and counter from up- close in later rounds. He was constantly putting Canelo on his heels. Once one's weight is on heels, even for a brief period of time, it is a very compromised position, simply because there is not too much to do from there, both offensively and defensively - no balance.
    in order to beat Bivol in the rematch, Canelo has to up his game pretty drastically, otherwise, the result shall be even more saddening for him.
    As far as Bivol`s performance, Im super glad for my countryman, and for boxing school that he represents.

      @@3ma_lengend it's not about what "you believe" the film is therecthis is the problem you guys wanna push agendas rather than listen and study people who are evaluating, being bigger shouldn't affect your technical skill. If canelo was much better he'd have simply tried to outbox bivol because quote on quote "he's the bigger guy" and none of these things were factors with callum smith. Again that should tell you the technical skills and IQ were the main differences, canelo needs to also learn new traps and become accustomed to fighting out of the high gaurd and learning how to side step and shuffle more. He still has really bad and splodgy feet, that and his suspect jab defence and lead hand ability, will limit him greatly. There ain't that many Slick technicians with high level boxing IQ and education so canelo should be "fine" but that has still is and always will be a limiting factor for him. Precisely why he's not p4p1 or anywhere near floyd, not as complete or well rounded,

      @@firellparker7463 bro I don't know what you just wrote but it's facts over feeling but if your talking about the Canelo and bivol fight

      Lands 9.7 jabs /round-No. 2 in boxing
      Landed 10+jabs in 21 consecutive rounds -two shy of Muhammed Ali's record
      Opponents land just 5.4 punches per round -N0. 2 in boxing
      Has thrown 20+ power shots in only 6 of his last 51 rounds this is bivol stats plus Canelo has always had stamina issues why change a formula if it got you winning most of your fights we not making excuses we know he lost the fight

    Bruh!!! That was on point Fam! Team Reynoso has some work to do because that code appears to be cracked. You can see a slight difference in Bivol/Shakur vs. the other Canelo/Valdez opponents when they attacked the high guard with power punches. The other opponents were too late in their attack as they waited until the shift in weight to the front foot and the dropping of the back foot was complete. This is why Canelo/Valdez was able to easily counter with the high guard trap. But Bivol/Shakur were both either early or had them thrown off balance by the probes(just repeating what you already pointed out lol.) Ingenious catch Fam! That split second in timing made all the difference as far as attacking with power punches. And that’s why confidence goes a long way. Being timid will make you a split second late. But the probing jabs had to be frustrating as hell for Canelo/Valdez as they would have to reset and try to set up the trap all over again. Great stuff Fam!

      @@TexRock I asked Gems the other day about fighter IQs and he said a trainer in the comments, told him some fighters get drilled through repetition because they won’t understand a breakdown, and to the fighters that will understand, he explains the WHY. (It was something along the lines)
      Back to your call out of other fighters. I believe they (Plant/Bjs/etc) knew HOW to beat Canelo was attacking the high guard. They didn’t know WHY to attack the high guard though. The Ring IQ was all the difference. It led to inconsistencies in performance, and a lack of conviction. Shakur and Bivol understand the why, the body mechanics that go into Boxing.

    • @TexRock
      @TexRock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ritzkola2302 That’s a great point. I’ve heard the same explanation before as well. Shakur even hinted at it in the build up to the fight. It’s the difference between being able to know why your opponent is doing what he’s doing as opposed to simply reacting to what he’s doing. And that in and of itself creates that split second in time. And of course, that gives you the confidence needed to consistently perform the task needed to get him off his game . Excellent point here.

I know some may laugh at the idea of Errol being able to beat Canelo, but Errol has an excellent jab that is also high volume & when it comes to trapping, pinning, framing & guard manipulation, Spence is one of the best at those things in this current era. Just these 2 examples alone give him an extremely good chance to win.

    I hate that whenever we have to make predictions about a Canelo fight we have to talk about Canelo winning via robbery even if he loses. I made the same prediction about Bivol and almost decided not to watch the fight because of how the judges keep favoring him. I'm glad this time around it went the right way, but again cant avoid how the judges had the fight even going into the 12th, I think it's about time we just swear off giving Canelo views till the commission looks into these judges. It was the same with Valdez and Conceicao, I think Valdez got dismantled, there was a close round here and there but it was clear Conceicao dominated the majority of the rounds. Nonetheless, it was a great breakdown. I think this style these Reynoso guys have adopted where they don't try to win round they just plod forward for the knockout comes from the fact the judges will already have them 4 rounds ahead before the fight even starts. Now that they've lost perhaps they'll adjust and start trying to box rather than just swing for the highlight reel KO

    I think the method to their madness is the fact that both Valdez and Canelo fight against taller fighters with longer reach. In Canelos Case Much Taller fighters with longer reach. Since you cant jab with a Jabber who is longer than you and in some cases also faster than you. . They use the High Guard traps to bait the Jab and work off that. This comes with its perks but also is easy to disrupt their timing. . The opposition using the lead hand to fence them to stop them in their tracks or the use of double or tripple pitty pat jabs to knock them off balance . . I think to counter this They Should adopt some variation of the peekaboo using head movement up jabs and pendulum steps to make up for their lack of size and reach. . But IDk if Canelo or Valdez got the stamina, foot work, or quick twitch muscles for explosiveness to adopt it successfully like mike did. .
    I say all that to say this. . All things being Equal I believe if Canelo was 6ft and Bivol was 5'7 Canelo would Knock Him out . . I also Believe if Canelo was the same size and reach as Bivol Canelo would Knock HIm Out . . I think its not necessarily a skill difference that made Bivol Shut Canelo down. . It was a Good Big Man utilizing his physical advantages to beat a Good Smaller man . . Now Shakurs Defeat over Valdez was a Good Big man beating a Decent Small Man. .Even Though Shakur also had the same physical advantages being the much bigger man. . I believe even if they were the same size Shakur would win as he is a better fighter plus he south paw.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  ปีที่แล้ว

      The act of controlling a high guard with posts and probing jabs has nothing to do with a fighters size. Thats just one of the ways a constant high guard is vulnerable. But if you’re saying that Canelo would have utilized different guards and different wrinkles if he were equal in size or bigger than Bivol, then perhaps.

The Reynoso gym are not elite boxer's they are good at their Niche style of "fighting" but it's been exposed again and again this year at the high levels...Rey Martinez..and now these two. ironically enough you had a healthy amount of fans favoring all 3 over their respective school teacher's.

    This is an excellent observation…thanks for the knowledge. Really appreciate it as a fight fan. It begs the question though what Canelo and Valdez need to do to adjust quicker against world class elite movers. What Canelo and Valdez do works against 80-85% roughly. Bivol is off the charts and Stevenson is a phenom. Balance would be the solution, but getting yourself into position is problematic. Valdez will never want to see Stevenson again…but I believe Canelo will revisit Bivol.

    I wanna say 3 things Gems. You probably got dudes out there thinking they can fight and getting beat up lol. But seriously tho, I was wondering why Bivol was being so confident or "bold" (when I was watching) and just standing in front of canelo and walking up on him. Same for Shakur against Valdez. Unnerved me just so slightly. From talking to you, reading the comment section and watching this breakdown I understand even more now. They were confident and their confidence would've been boosted every single time Shakur/Bivol was able to take advantage of this. They understood the "WHY" and put it in action and saw that it worked like a charm every time. That's a huge confidence booster but it also revealed something else to them. It showed them their IQ was levels above Canelo/Valdez because those two never even adjusted. Meaning they never took notice and were unaware themselves (Canelo/Valdez) that they were being neutralized. So Shakur and Bivol's confidence were through the roof and went higher each passing round.
    Last I wanna talk about the sequence at 4:22. I'm getting better at noticing this stuff thanks to you Family. Bivol times canelo and throws him off balance TWICE. Then at 4:33 Bivol does a level change feint which brings canelo RIGHT BACK LEANING over his front foot, and takes advantage of it once again. Just masterful.

    Should Canelo revert back to using more head movement like he used to? Also to comment on the email, is it because the fighters aren't being taught those things in the gym or lack of experience? Thinking back to recent fights, a lot of those guys never fought anyone on Canelo's level till they actually fought him. The key is you have to do it from just outside of your opponent’s range, cover your footwork with some time of probing/pawing jab and NOT lean too far over your front leg.
