When we speak of illusions, we can accidentally suggest that clear seeing is an alteration of current perceptions-a mystical, transcendent, or otherwise “different” experience of here-and-now awareness. This is not so.
The fundamental illusion we seek to drop is that the psychological self (I, David) is limited to the contours of the body and the space behind my eyes or “in my head.” Clear seeing here means recognizing that awareness of awareness is in fact revealing what is sought after-but nearly universally overlooked. It’s too close. Too simple. I am awareness in human form rather than a human who is aware.
We have never questioned that “I am a human being named David.” That this is not the case-and can be directly seen as otherwise-is awakening. I, Awareness, APPEARS limited to this mind/body. When the illusion drops, I Awareness, remains. I am That.
As awakening deepens to self realization, the psychological self is seen to have never existed. It’s the death of the self. The illusion of “ I am all; I am love itself, etc.” drops away. Deepening further, attachment to emptiness dissolves, and in its place stands the Self once again-luminous in form and emptiness. A self, separate again, embodied suchness.
Tony, perhaps you can take your own stab at a video directed on the specifics of the initial illusion. What EXACTLY drops away. I find myself always struggling with words when trying to convey the wordless. ❤🙏
