  • We had our buddies bike back in the shop after a beat down at Hog Waller a few weeks ago. Pretty much broke everything inside the transmission minus the reverse chain we up in a few months back. Now its getting an upgraded snorkel gear, turf delete, and a 27% gear reduction.
Here are the part numbers for the 2 different gear reductions you can get, they are all oem Polaris parts. ALso below are the links for the reast of the parts used in this build.
    27% reduction - 3235451 & 3235450
    12% reduction - 3235380 & 3235381

I know this is an older video but hopefully I will get some input. I just did my first rebuild on my 2019 ranger 900. Assembled case and had a catch in the gears so I disassembled again and reset backlash to 3 notches out from 0 put case back together and still have a catch in gears, any advice? I did super single reverse chain, gear reduction, turf delete, hd plate, new bearings. No damage just upgrades.

So we don't set them up to 3 turns anymore. Basically closest notch to zero backlash. Is the catch a complete stop? If so you may have a gear in the wrong position, snap ring may have been put in the wrong spot or didn't seat all the way(done this before) before I put the case back together I make sure it spins in all gears. It can be tricky because the case isn't there to support the sift drum, but it's possible. I wish I could give you the answer, but it's hard to tell without putting hands on it.
      Thanks for watching!

Just a serious question why wouldn't you clean the other case to match the new?yeah it won't be perfect match but a parts washer with overnight soak would have made it look almost new. And not bashing at all just curious cause u guys do a great job

Honestly...I couldn't tell you why. It was so long ago. But probably just didn't even cross my mind at the time. I have done mine when its apart and I have kinda given up on it because of all the crevices.i can get the major areas but those tight spaces suck. I paint them now(if the customer wants) Thanks for watching! I'm far from perfect and appreciate the feedback lol

I cringed the whole time those case halves were being bolted together. Made my heart hurt...

    Two questions:
1: what position should I leave the gears in before putting the case on.
2: I too had to buy a new case, but one of the pins doesn't match up. Everything else matches but one of the two pins doesn't match. Do I need a different top case or will it work?

The position dosen't really matter, the only thing it effect is when you put the gear position sensor back on you want it to be in the gear you took it apart In or else the sensor can break and cause some issues . so once it's all together put it in the gear so that the sensor lines up properly and you shouldn't have an issue.
As for the pin, I haven't ran into that issue. Depending on the year, the cases should all be the same. The pins can be removed, they are just the to line everything up, but the bearings help with that as well. I would have to see it to give you an exact answer on that one....but if it were me, I would remove the pin that dosen't line up and send it, as long as everything else fits.

@@3BROFFROAD first off all. Thank you guys for the video, I did my first rebuild watching you guys multiple times and you were great!!!
Second, after everything is up and running, the computer doesn't seem to read the gear position, so I probably screwed that up. The gears shift identical to the shifter diagram, but the monitor reads L when in High gear, and the monitor read H when in low gear. The other gears show nothing. Is there something I can do to fix that?

@@pinkslime1 Hey, glad the videos helped! Sorry i didn't see your comment sooner. But if you haven't figured it out yet I'm betting its the gear position sensor on the side of the case. Probably got twisted when going back on and broke the clock spring inside. I have done it plenty of times. The only way to fix it is to get a new one sadly.

If we have all the parts it can usually be done in a night, we both have full time jobs so we do this at nights and weekends.

In high they aren't bad. 4500-5k. In low it won't go over 18-20 and thats reved out.
