I remember the first time I finished this game. It’s ending is an EXTREME rarity in video games. It’s one of the few games with an ending that can make you feel sad, happy, fullfilled, and satisfied at the same time.
I think the boss fight would've been better if the Black on Black was fought in the Magnum Opus instead of on foot. After all, they're the Devil and the Angel of the Wasteland. Perhaps Max could've remembered what Chumbucket has done for him and swerved the Opus, knocking off him and sparing the both of them. As Chum picks himself up and gets back in, the Interceptor comes flying out of the Land Mover and chases after Max. One 1v1 car fight later, the Interceptor is defeated but lands one final blow on the Opus, damaging her beyond (immediate) repair. Max and Scrotus fight each other hand to hand as Chum prays for the Angel Combustion to see Max prevail. Scrotus is defeated and killed like he was in the original ending, and the scene ends as Max uses the Interceptor to tow the beaten Opus back to a stronghold. I know this ending wouldn't be as impactful, but at least Max finally gets a somewhat happy ending. Hope and Glory are avenged and he gets his car back. No silver lining.
That was the sad thing about this game.. no happy ending. I don't mean for Max, I know he lives for that shit (Death and Destruction).. I meant everyone else. Surely there was a better way to motivate you to kill that dude? Whatever happened to the old Damsel in Distress hostage final battle? 😅
That's right, this game has only sad endings. I think it's sad for Max also.😢 Haven't tried not killing Chumbucket yet. I'll try to play Mad Max again later.
@@RedDolittle yeah, the thing about Chumbucket was.. he was a little nuts. It's entertaining to listen to him Shakesphere on about Engines and what-not.. but that Last Mission, he really pissed me off. First he stole the car, and stranded you in the middle of - wherever.. and basically made you late for the dude's invasion. Because you had to go to his hideout and get the car back. After that chick and her daughter died, I was so pissed at him, I was like Max.. I didn't really care he was still attached to the stupid car. 😅
@@DavidMyrmidon in Chum's defense, Max left him in the heart of the territory of a faction he is deathly afraid of. Even if he wasn't obsessed with the Opus, he likely still would've fled due to just how much the Buzzards scare him. The invasion wouldn't have even happened if Stank Gum didn't spot him driving to the boat. Plus he was deeply sorry about abandoning Max, seeing himself as a heretic for it and begging for his forgiveness. It's Max's fault that Chum died. The Land Mover was already wrecked, stuck and about to fall, he didn't need to sacrifice the Opus to push it off. Max let his rage consume him, and it made him kill the only person who he could truly call a friend.
