The environment agency need to be fined. 40 year ago ditches, rivers, dykes all would be cleaned out either on a yearly basis or every 3 year. Local councils also need a kick up the ass and told to clean drains and gulleys out and address road side ditches.
and they allowed building on land that was never suitable for houses buisness etc if they had listened to old people with local knowledge they could have told them all they needed to know
Hello . Glad your safe . The whole southern eastern states have been destroyed by a hurricane that went inland . Whole towns gone . Please stay safe glad you have silage . Good to see you .
Just watching you forking out the round bale silage reminded me of when we used to have to do it. We found an old hay knife and sharpened/cleaned it up with a flap disc and used it to cut the bale open. You can then open it up into layers and makes it much easier to fork out, saving your back!
Looks like you are going to be a long winter ahead of you. We have just come out of a long dry cold winter with a lot of frosts in Coopers Creek Canterbury but so far the spring has been good the grass is growing well
Its obvious that over the years the government has gone more to environment conservation to the detriment to farmers, it would be great if you could get all the local farmers together to form a group to agree to clear their respective ditches out, hopefully alleviating some of the extent of the flooding. It would benefit all the farmers in the flooded area so surely they would agree...although i do know how hard it is to get farmers to come together sometimes.
Its unbelievabe fields flooded in September. Thankfuly we conservation graze on high fields and woodland or else we would be stymeid for shelter. I think its a desperate situation as presumably you are using your silage early. Hopefully we get a little relief. Our problem at the moment is Blue tongue and a ministry blood test at short notice. Have to get 24 Highlands from100 acres of woodland, pond meadows and pasture fields.
An early winter is a pain in the you know where but it looks like you've no choice, we've the cows and heifers staying out for another few weeks hopefully but it all depends on the amount of rainfall naturally, enjoy your videos very much, from Co. Wexford, South East Ireland
It's not often the further north is drier than the south of England. Our cows are happily outside day and night with plenty of grass and very good ground conditions. Very different from last year, they were in full time for the winter.
Hard look with weather and wet ground. Best of luck with the heard test next week. We and neighbour after getting a big break down with tb In tipperary Ireland. Half herd cows on neighbour farm went down and 1 third of our dairy cows went down as well
We've had some pretty massive rains here in Denmark as well recently (Esbjerg had nearly 145mm in 24 hours), which caused a lot of flooding in Jutland. It seems that as long as the flooding "only" occurs on farmlands, politicians (and a fair few citizens as well) won't give two hoots about it. When the cities starts flooding (due to neglected or poorly planned drainage), all of the sudden it becomes a major issue. As the weather gets wetter due to climatechange, 50 years of neglect sure came back to bite, didn't it? Hope you get some drying weather, Richard. Take care and have a lovely weekend.
Richard farm from Northern Ireland all ways watch the weather for cast for some reason England getting far more rain than we're getting. that is very strange
We had a very wet winter in south west Scotland last year, the cows had to be housed in September but we were lucky we had a lot of silage but spent a fortune on straw
Looking at the weather map for lower part of England at the time in September rain was falling from West coast to East coast, were I am we have two large parks with lakes which overflowed as the run off large concrete pipes couldn't cope the water then runs into the River Roding and then the River Thames the Roding was over it's banks, were I am it's fortunately higher but the ground is still very soggy.
Not noticed your method of self feeding silage, only ever seen or used myself either feed barriers across the face or an electric wire or we used suspended scaffoldpoles in the past to control the amount eaten and reduce wastage. Looked like quite % bring trodden on. Silage is an expensive commodity.
Oh mate what a pain in the ass for you its going to be a long winter im afraid dont remember having a summer maybe one week if that keep your chin up Rich
high funky farmer Richard what you sad on this video about the gully and stream was always clear buy council worker and local council where in charge till no good too shoe and government run uk 🇬🇧 change rules for farmers to save the environment from you tube channel subscribers Steve Forster from Beenleigh Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 I renewed my subscription
Calendar "Ordered" 👍👍😀 Its not the wettest September i can remember up here in Shropshire but in the top 5. The EA have not been fit for purpose ever. The are pen pushers with 0 environmental knowledge causing far more harm than good. Dredging out waterways was done to not just minimise flood risk but to also benefit wildlife that is all otherwise drowned. The added issues of new roads and housing estates pushed water far quicker into waterways and at much greater volume so even someone with low IQ can see the necessity to clean out and maintain waterways . Another issue comes from water companies who pump millions of liters of raw sewerage & all the detritus in it into waterways every day & this is the cause of over 85% of all water pollution in the UK . This September here in Shropshire saw over 189mm+ rain - From 1st September to 9th September 2024 we saw 93mm+ Sunday 8th saw 66mm+ of rain here & Just up the road RAF Shawbury recorded 62.4mm of that in just 14Hrs from 7am to 11pm on Sunday. From the 10th September to 30th we have seen a further 96mm+ my gauge over flowed so its over 189mm
Seems very short sighted of the powers that be not to clear the ditches just to keep lower down from flooding. If it's flooding out farms, what do they think that will mean for the future? I can't stand to see problems pushed along downhill instead of being solved. If the weather is getting more violent from increasing rains to worsening hurricanes and such, plans must be made to deal with it.
well all the enviromentalists in the country will be thrilled to see your floods with all the birds there swimming around on the water. only a couple months ago you were saying what am i going to do with all this silage you were saying i don't need this much silage........umm you might regret saying that by the end of the winter. going to be a long expensive winter. we got plenty of hills here in Devon so flooded fields aren't much of a problem for us........tipping a tractor and trailer over though .......oh yes that's a very real risk
Hi Richard, offhand do you happen to know what the VAT on the calendars would be to Ireland? If not I'll look it up, just thought I'd ask first. Cheers 😊
Why can’t you ask Mr P if he can clean out the duchess to get the water out of there it’s crazy. I never seen that bad. It’s you feel. It’s your home. You own it. It’s time to dig it out. There shouldn’t be water in your field this time and I hope you are going to spread your call poop all over place for you can get the piles gone. Maybe the grass grow better
There is electric fence at the silage face. It’s wire and quite low, so difficult to see. But if you go back to the beginning of the video and look carefully you can spot it 👍
Feel for you funky farmer. Sole destroying seeing that mess already. Hopefully things will improve buddy. Keep up the good work 🚜🐄
Despite what's going on across the world right now you've seen very happy and it's good to see you happy I wish you all the best

The amount of work that doesnt get done in our local area (Same as funkyfarmer) is outrageous
Well said. Despite there being very heavy rain it would have drained away by now.
and they allowed building on land that was never suitable for houses buisness etc if they had listened to old people with local knowledge they could have told them all they needed to know
@@liamcallaghan253Good point. You wonder where the environment agency recruits its staff from
Rivers, ditches and road gully’s all need cleaning… it’s not global warming

Good luck with everything ahead on the farm there 👍👍👍
Already! It wasn't that long ago we were enjoying watching them frisking around after being let out after winter
Well said about Environment Agency
Sad to see good land underwater 😢
I feel for you Richard, we have been fairly lucky in Scotland for a change.
Looks like you are going to be a long winter ahead of you. We have just come out of a long dry cold winter with a lot of frosts in Coopers Creek Canterbury but so far the spring has been good the grass is growing well

the problem is enviroment ,agencies , will not allow these drainage systems to be drained ,,,,all part of so called enviroment protection
Rain Rain Rain!
Calendar …. secured 😂
You have a ton of silage and bales. You can't complain about the weather when you were so lucky this year.
He can if he wants to.

Hi Richard love your videos
Is that the best you can do
What do you mean
For evey cubic metre of muck taken out of a ditch, its the equivalent of 20 square feet covered with an inch of water.
Been a brutal 12 months.
Rich,Olly is right mate bring back the NRA to sort that stuff out it’s only going to get worse : ps how good was the big tractor 🤠

That's very bad. Takes a great farmer to farm land that's gets flooded like that. It's like a game of chess, moving animals around. Fair play
