Even back in the 80s the D250s were tough to get parts for, and any of the D Series Wheel Horses have been complety obsoleted for over 10 years.

The best garden tractors in my opinion is the Case/Ingersoll tractors...I still own 3...444, 4020, and 4120.

Modern mowers are just that, mowers. Even reviews claim their Garden Tractors. When in fact they are not. Pathetic & sad ! People can't seem to distinguish, a Lawn Tractor from a Garden Tractor. Pretty easy actually, look at the rear axle. If it's just a shaft & the wheels aren't bolted. It's most likely just a lawn mower. Having no real capability. And unable to accept implements or attachments. For the most part, useless in any garden.

I have a 74 MTD 960 owned it for atleast 17years now same as the 990 but gear driven trans 16Hp 531cc cast iron b&s was supposed to be more for aimed at ploughing at discing ground engaging implements its listed at 980lbs think its a peerless cast iron trans 4f 1r 1 being a creeper gear for rototilling I have one its a shaft driven pto from the belly a widley overlooked tractor they were a beast of their time only downfall of owning this tractor is the automotive clutch they put in can't get clutch discs can order cub cadet ones and drill new holes to retro fit tho

That was awesome. Great info. I have a good friend that has gotten his Dad's old John Deere garden tractor after his Dad passed. His Dad was a die hard Iowa Hawkeye fan and had the Deere painted in the black and gold colors. Personally, I think painting a Deere in the colors of that liberal piece of crap school is sacrilege, but it does look pretty sharp. New subscriber guys. Good job.

I've got a white gt1855 best garden tractor I've ever had. Hydro, 54" mow deck, class 0 3point, front and mid pto.

Hate it when we brag on the Foreign stuff when we have things that get good fuel economy durable last forever type thing don’t want foreign junk
I would take the Sunstar 20hp off the honorable mentions As it and JD 420 share drivelines. rear pto, minus motor, slightly wider frame and added hydraulics. But i wouldnt include the short lived Baby Stars 14/16hp or Big 18hp Star (is more inline with the JD 318) in with the 20hp Star as the dont get power steering, diff lock, hi/lo gearbox, or optional rear pto, 3pt, twin stick hydralics & loader.

I wonder why somebody hasn't taken a big block Briggs, Kohler, or Duramax gas 900 cc plus horizontal V-twin engine and produced an economical 30 hp shaft-drive tractor to compete with the sub-compact diesels? Now that Simplicity quit making the *_Legacy_* model, is Cub Cadet the only manufacturer offering a gas-powered shaft-driven garden tractor? At $4,499, is the Husqvarna TS 354XD (54") 24HP Kawasaki Garden Tractor w/ Tuff Torq K-66 Locking Differential currently the best Garden Tractor for the money?

Depends on your definition of garden tractor, but definitely the Allis Chalmers 720 takes it.
Yes some are really more sub compacts in disguise. The Powermax’s are monsters for sure!
Very informative video. I’d like to eventually get a big older garden tractor. My fear is parts. Does anybody know which would be the best or worse choice for that matter as far as part’s availability?
Strictly basing it off parts, I’d think John Deere would be amongst the best. It’s a gamble with any older machine though.

I found that the Gravely 24G tractor weighs 963 lbs.
Great video. Jumpins, I’ve got 10 garden tractors. But none in the super garden tractor range. 😟 I do have a LGT 165 Ford and in the manual it’s says it’s 853 lbs.

BuildALot Acres 1976 MF14, 1976 MF12, 1971 MF7, two LGT 165 Fords, LGT 100 Ford, 1990 YT16H Ford, 1982 Case 446, 1975 Case 224, and 1970 John Deere 140H3. All tractors have multiple attachments. Snow throwers, mowing decks, tillers, one sod Plow, tandem disks, cultivators, and many home made attachments. The MF 12 has a loader, which I made.
