I have a garden tractor that’s comparable to the sears for an economy tractor. Montgomery ward 16. I paid 250 for one with all the attachments available.
Very cool 👍 Mu brother has a MW Garden Squire. Cool little units.
We are lucky if we get any snow at all over a winter. Everything you said makes perfect sense and I think you are right but we would still like to try a snowblower at some point just for the fun of it
I like blowers for sidewalks and concrete patios but other than that, blades tend to be faster and better.
@@jamesgarland4990 I agree 👍
The truth about bauer....if your concern is budgeting....Bauer is your brand
@@4AM_DJ I think budget is a factor for nearly anyone buying their own items. As a licensed contractor for the last 25 years or so I can guarantee you all brands break eventually 👍
@BuildALotAcres This is true. Even the great Milwaukee will leave you helpless out in the middle of nowhere...and I should know because it happened to me once
A lot of really good points, I think the one about private companies and municipalities using plows by far outnumbers the use of snowblowers proves it. Now snowblowers shine in certain areas too and are the ideal choices for those situations. How are you guys doing this year with the cold? We’re a little south of you and haven’t got much for accumulation
@@nmancini It’s been pretty cold here, but not much in the way of snow. Only 3-4 measurable events this year. Most of those under 6”.
@ very odd since you’re more in the snow belt than we are being north of auburn. Seems like Maine has been getting more this year
Some people like their snowblowers, but it's such a singular use, high cost, high maintenance attachment. I use a rear blade to plow snow. It works well and does lots of other tasks for me. I can't use a snowblower in early summer to level out trails in the woods! Good video!!
@@FabbedFun Thank you sir 👍 I agree 💯 Even in “snow belt” regions, Snowblowers sit well over 50 percent of the year. Some years more like 75-100 percent. To me, it’s just not cost effective. Great point on rear blades 🚜
@@BuildALotAcres You make some pretty good analysis videos on very useful topics!
I think for pickup trucks and larger tractors, your points are probably true, but as far as I've experienced, blowers are much more effective for garden tractors and walk behinds. I keep two driveways open with a 4 wheel Gravely. I love to plow, but I'm much more limited by space for snowbanks and pushing power of the tractor. Even right in town, blowing snow into the neighbors yard has never been an issue. I can't snow blow right now because my PTO clutch is down. With winter half over and the snow banks frozen hard, I'm getting a little nervous about how narrow the drive is going to get in the next month or two! The Gravely and "snow cannon" is able to chew through frozen banks that refuse the plow. I also have a lot of uneven ground in general, which limits my ability to push banks as far as I'd like. Makes plowing awful on the yard! My drive in town is short, but there's a foot rise on either side. If I tried to plow snow to the sides, the dirt would be a huge mess! The only real way to do it is to pull the snow out and push it up along the street, which is also pushing up hill and the machines I have just aren't capable of that for the whole winter. For small machines, I'm much more limited by a plow than a blower.
Great points! I guess in this video I was thinking mainly trucks and larger tractors. I agree with your points on garden tractors. I did do a video on gt blowers vs plows a whole back. th-cam.com/video/MAEDT3uuaew/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VdT0jidaDHmIHFUd
Anyone have a comment on if pine is superior to fir for kindling? I was suggested to make a mix for kindling.
@@aaronwissler4408 Both make great kindling. Most softwoods will due to their ease of catching flame, quick seasoning time, and quick and intense flames. th-cam.com/video/TEJeQ7XP9vk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fdZKfxmaXj4nGqaj
Pine can tend to carry bugs when transporting. Or bringing home to split. I've heard that dirty chimneys are the problem
Dirty chimneys are definitely a big issue. I recommend cleaning then or at least checking them monthly during burning season.
Over the years we've set ourselves up quite well. We have a snowblower for a Wheelhorse (haven’t used it yet) and a nice walk behind Ariens commercial snowblower. That one we've used many times. We have several Wheelhorses with snow plows. We far prefer to plow. We use the snowblower when we need to. Plows most of the time.
Sounds like a great setup 👍
I definitely agree, my dads craftsman had a snowblower on it and the belts were a constant issue. Been doin alot of snowplowing my new GT6000 and its alot faster and easier, also scrapes the ground better which is great since my mom runs a hairshop from our house.
I had a mid 90's GT6000 with a 48" plow. That Kohler Magnum had a nice low, deep growl. It just gobbled through the snow like an animal.
@BuildALotAcres mine is a 95 with the 20hp magnum, they are a beast. It sounds great with the 4 foot tractor stack on it.
I agree with everything you mentioned. All valid points, and take it from me Ontario Canada I know snow! When I moved to this property I was using a sxs with a plow, and had a horrible time. It wasn't cut out for it here. I went with the front mount blower on my Kubota BX... But... I could have gotten away with a plow in hind sight. But do love shooting the snow far away. Cheers
Thank you sir 👍
the word is Tariff.
The only downside to burning Pine is if you use your ash for like gardening fertilizer/ that is gonna have oils that aren’t good for your plants. Other than that there’s nothing wrong with burning Pine
It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Kabota.

I’ll burn pine but one thing different about pine and other sap containing trees is you get syrup from those saps and turpentine from pine sap.
Wonder if the Gutbrod tractors would have Demonstrator variants then.

Great video, thanks. We have a shed on wheels that we fill with wood and move it to next the outside door. We don't often have to be concerned about snow but it is horrible going to the wood store in the rain

My 318 has long ago been replaced with a Kubota largely because of 4wd, diesel engine, and a 60” deck, but I still love and baby the 318. I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it.
I had an unused 8x25 garage stall without doors that I stored wood from front to back and stacked to the ceiling. Once seasoned I would store in the Mass recycle, trash and yard waste bins on the back deck. Reason being I had private trash pickup……so with the 3 bins filled I was good for a few days especially if a storm was coming. Wood stayed nice n dry!!!
@@josefshaker5596 Sounds like a great system 👍
You are 100% correct on burning pine. The only reason I don’t burn pine is because I am overwhelmed with 82 acres of mostly oak and hickory. I’m located in east Texas so I do have a lot of pine.
We keep ours outside in one of two covered locations and bring it in every few days as needed. Seems to work well enough. Folks comment to me about the need to handle firewood multiple times. It's just the nature of the beast.
@@ebinmaine I hear you there. I cut my own, usually from standing trees. I swear some years I touch the same wood a half dozen times by the time I burn it
@BuildALotAcres Hahahaha. Absolutely!
I agree with you, for most people, this is a great sharpener...I love mine! Bang for the buck...it would be near impossible to beat this.

Is hypermax a marketing thing or is there a difference between the none hypermax batteries?
Hypermax is supposed to be high performance, with higher milliampere-hour ratings, longer run times, better storage etc.
@BuildALotAcres awesome thanks!
Gutbrod made walk behind sickle bar mowers they got the licence to build them from the Swiss company Rapid
Wow thank you. I am now off to the bins to look for some cans!
The fact that he thinks that having multiple five amp hour batteries is the same as a 12 amp hour battery shows how little he actually understands about this battery technology
I tested multiple size AH batteries 1.5-8AH in multiple Bauer tools on video and the difference between the 8 and 5 wasn't that great. The 12 hadn't come out yet. Most jobs I do don't require whatever small performance gain the 12 offers. It does add a lot of bulk, size and weight though for every job, and costs a lot.
If we're going to be honest you're going to pay attention to lithium ion batteries being made. They mainly all come from China regardless of the manufacturer named stamped on the battery go to look at where it's been made and those cells will most likely be Chinese cells if they're not Samsung cells which is what again? There may be some LG cells but again what are those?😂😂😂😂
Interesting subject. Thanks for doing this.
You’re welcome 👍
Hardwoods generate a lot of ash. Pine does not.
Tractordata is a great site for information. We see a lot of Gutbrod tractors over here, the later Gutbrod tractors were called Motostandard. We have a Motostandard 1010 in our collection which is rare over here but many still exist in Germany. Great video, thanks
@@GardenTractorBoy Very cool Joseph. They were definitely an interesting company!
That's interesting I've never seen one in Germany, they seem to be verry rare. Gutbrod also sold the MTD 900-series hydrostatics. Unfortuantely real garden tractors are rare here because almost only municipalities bought them. Private people bought walk-behind tractors because they where allowed to drive on roads without vehicle registration.

Around 10 years ago I had a list of 10 different brand names that Noma 4 wheel steer lawn tractors were sold as: Noma, Scott’s, Stanley, Sears, Ingersol, then later Murray, is all I can remember now for North America, though they were sold under the Viking name in Australia. I’d love to find one of the Ingersol 4ws. I’ve dismantled around 8 of them and there’s probably 8-10 different transaxles used in them throughout their run. Murray changed the rear steering hubs later on and then some were sold under I believe Snapper and another brand about 8 years ago. The Noma design 4ws had 3 bolt hubs,,, the MTD 4ws had 4 bolt hubs.
