Yes. This proves American dream is alive: Work hard, have Integrity, be respectful and nice to people, help them whenever you can and you will be rewarded by America’s System.
Met her a few days ago had NO idea of her story. She is truly amazing and beyond humble. So glad I got a picture of her. I see celebrities almost daily and have NEVER wanted a photo until I saw Lt General West. God bless all her endeavors!

I met LTG West in Heidelberg, Germany and I was honored by how much she valued my opinion despite my being younger and many ranks junior to her. She was board certified in both Family Medicine and Dermatology, yet the Army recognized that they needed her skills as a senior leader even more than her clinical skills. I would love to work with her more.
@@tdgdbs1 That is always an issue moving up to the top, the hands on gets rusty. That goes with anything in life. What I see is that she encourages others. That is huge for a young person. I remember a story about Jesse Owens telling a young man he could do it; and he did, won an Olympic Gold. As I recall Owens did it at least two more times. And they were not black athletes. We should all do the same, always encourage. The military does it the other way: try to weed out the weak. Did not work with this featured surgeon general, which is what the army wanted in the first place: reverse encouragement.
Had a pleasure of meeting LTG West at the International Military Pilgrimage in Lourdes, France...she is truly an Officer and a...Gentle woman. SALUTE !!
I served under a Black Female Battalion Commander of the 84th Engineers Battalion 98-00. I will go to War with her anytime any day. Her leadership and ability to put her soldiers first surpass every doubts. She is also the 1st Female Battalion Commander of the 84th Engineers.
This gives me so much joy. I was adopted from foster care when I was 18 years old. I'm leaving my dream job of working with teens in foster care job to go back to school for a law degree. Every day I wake up and work hard so that the next generation of young women in foster care get to tell success stories like this one. With Trump in Office, in the middle of one of the most broken foster systems in America (Texas), young people NEED more stories like this to remind them of their infinite strength. I hope some day our Country realizes that Foster Care IS a national issue. I hope that next election, we can all take a moment on BOTH sides of the aisle to recognize that a broken foster system ANYWHERE is an affront to American values EVERYWHERE. With all due respect to this woman's story, I hope that some day every orphan and EVERY foster child leaves the system fully prepared to realize their own God-Given talents. Until that happens, success stories like these, while they are SO worthy of being uplifted, run the risk of drowning out the hundreds of thousands of stories of heartbreak, loss, and the failure of our systems to protect these kids. We need to hear those stories too.
Jess D - Your story is uplifting, as well! Such a good feeling stories like yours and hers do for others. You deserve the dream jobs that you both must feel like you have, both you and the General! Lots of love!
Jess D I’m sending you much Love, Prayers and best wishes! Always remember why you wanted to become a lawyer and go out into the world and work to make other people’s lives better. If you can, I would definitely try to represent children in the foster system and children and bad situations that need good strong attorneys to help them. Be a voice for the victims, for the weak, for the poor and for the needy. Do great work and happiness and fulfillment will always follow. I’m sending you lots love, and never doubt yourself you’ll get to where you want to be if you always keep working hard!
Jib Jib Depends, if they react to the US military hurting and killing people, then serving that organisation and being "an inspiration" to others might sit bad with some people and they have a valid point. If it's because she's a woman, an orphan, a female officer or of her melanin count then no,.....that's not a valid point.
lol.....anyway,i sit here complaining about i have to take the calif. cpa exam that is offered in sections,(percentage rate if passing is low)yet this woman endured so much. she is stunningly beautiful and i just love it when i see any woman achieving so high. it is natural in my country for woman to do well. america seems to be more sexist, yet you guys claim how wonderful and free you are.

Get out into the states and meet some people.
nemo227 i made the comment based on my countey and usa, which i am residing in right now. there is,whether you like it or not, sexism in usa. good example,in netherlands, the man and woman are ""EQUALLY" responsible for birth control. i don't see that in usa. another thing i see is violence against woman is more prevalent in usa than netherlands. turn a blind eye all you want;no wonder usa has these priblems that still persist. does Netherlands have problems? of course we do. i love this woman and i think she is an EXCELLENT role model. i don't know if i am that strong. i believe her story....what is your problem with her? she is beautiful and smart and believable
She is so cool, extremely admirable, full of accomplishments. Top in class in her flight surgeon class?! She actually inspires me to set goals for myself
She’s an inspiration. I don’t think she knows just how much she is, but her story goes into my book as one of the many successes one can achieve against all odds. Thank you.
As a former Army medic, being in uniform, everyone was treated equal. There was no race, gender or background that came into play. But in the civilian world, the first year of my employment, I immediately noticed the discrimination, the underhanded segregation and off comments. I felt betrayed and disappointed. Is this the type of country that I swore to protect and defend? Is this what it came to be? I loved the camaraderie and brotherhood and sisterhood of the Army. I so wanted to go back. Those of us who have served know that it is the people we've had the privilege of meeting that kept us going. I pray that, one day, the civilian world wont be so divided and come together as one just like the Army has for me.
It’s not about race, background or gender what matters is what you can bring to the table as a soldier/warrant officer/officer. Physical, mentally and morally, and this 3 Star general definitely has what the army needs and she is a very brave and smart leader.
