Are you ready to get a fully immersed experience like no other on this channel? My next upcoming video is unlike anything I have ever done. It will be a 100k subscriber special from me to you. It's my first but one of the most beautifully shot, full-fledged films I ever produced. If you like documentaries with complex storylines, abandoned places, and interesting people, you will love this! I've been working on this video for six months, from planning, to the locations, interviewing different people, and even camping out endless nights in my car just to be on top of the locations I need to film the next day. I'm so excited to share it with you, and I hope you enjoy it. Who knows what will happen once I reach 1 million subs. But stay tuned for that as well. Again, thank you for your support!

I've been to Slab City many times since 2009. I met Leonard way back then and he told me while I helped him do some work on Salvation Mountain "somebody from something called Woogle Earyh came by and took a bunch of photos today. Have you ever heard of Woogle Earth?". He was of course talking about Google Earth, at a time when Google was still not a household name yet.
Thank you for this most excellent documentary! I think it shows that humans can get along and be content if left to their own devices.

Yooooo thanks for the $10 dollar donation ! I appreciate every bit of it. 🙏 Thank you
Was the fire bc of Pedophiles ? Dogs were yelping & Men yelling , hope they are ok ! What was the cause? Was the women in the water smoking thru her nose and did she say Meth or Fent was hard to tell with Daddy talking ... This was a excellent documentary...I know you captured more of this and would love to see what else you filmed that you didnt add here ...Thanks😊

I have watched a few documentaries on Slab City. This is a step beyond a documentary. You made friends and they seem to like you and trust you. Thank you for taking us inside a lifestyle that I never been. I admire their art and skills.
I did not expect the intense fire. I am so glad your okay and pray for those affected.
Thank you for watching!
He and then people at the hot springs was asked not to use the footage of the pillow patch being burned down by arsonists.
Makes me feel like he paid someone for the arson and was there by coincidence to film it.
Where they cooking Meth in that explosion. Fuck that shithole..
Were the people and animals in the fire ok? It looked so scary, I wonder why it was burned down by arsonists? I will pray for all involved.

This was one of the best Slab City Docs. I have ever watched. I have gotten to know different people from the slabs through social media and have donated packages as well to the slabs. I live semi nomadic in the Smokey Mountains and at my age (65) I could not survive in the desert without electric and a natural spring like I have here on my little 2 acres. I may visit sometime though.
the Smokey Mountains are way nicer than any place in California...... Slab City is the future of the state..... be well.
Two acres in the Smoky Mountains with an endless supply of fresh water sounds like paradise to me. I have some friends who live near Murphy and I'm moving to Chatanooga next summer. Hoping to find some affordable land in the mountains to build an off-grid cabin.
@@JakeKoenig , Good luck it's a beautiful state to live in with less government laws n taxes.... Although West Coast, Illinois, Michigan n Minn. People are pouring into the state bring their politics ..... Buying land is smart ..... be well.
@@JakeKoenig Best wishes. I live about an hour from Chattanooga...as long as you're away from the city you should be able to find something you like.
@@MegaBait1616 Jesus Christ, California is amazingly beautiful. I guess you might think the cities are going to devolve into this because of whatever you might read online, but the natural beauty of California can't be denied. It's actually pretty nice here even in cities but only if you don't mind a lot of people. Be well.
This is the best documentary on the slabs I've watched yet.
I grew up in slab city. This place is not full of “nice” people or just “down on their luck” people. It’s not peaceful or safe. My neighbors were pedos, drug addicts, human traffickers… horrible people. It’s not “artists” or whatever people try to get you to believe. It’s hell.
THANKS FOR THE TRUTH.... SORRY YOU HAD TO ENDURE THAT... MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU...❤❤❤
It's full of felons, ei it's a dangerous SLUM. We know how welcoming and endearing these places are in Venezuela, barrios, but they are dangerous and volatile places to live in.
Love & healing vibrations! I cannot fathom a child growing up there. ❤
Thank you for the positivity! ❤
It's what majority of post world apocalypse communities would instill from.. The idea that they're survivors therefore will do what's done to them and their own to create that cycle. It's the whole idea of a low income neighborhood. The odds of one sticking it out as neighbors or a close community is next to rare. It's why organized crime like the Mafia can never flourish as families who own generations. Next family to rule and spread "fairness". I won't even get into the Cartel style of family.
Reminds me of 29 palms down the hill from the military base. The base is not very active these days, but back in the 40's and 50's there was a big air force training compound. They built some houses down in the nearby wonder valley for the military wives, but it's a low point in the middle of the high desert, heat gets trapped in there. Daytime temps in the summer regularly exceed 105. So when the base shrunk down all the houses were immediately abandoned. The base started using the area to dump bits and pieces of building materials. A bunch of crazy old vietnam vets moved in, started building a shantytown. I got stuck there for a couple of weeks back in 2009. I'll never forget the people I met. Lotta people with nowhere else to be.
My heart hurts for them and what they may endure but their souls and spirits seem so beautiful and pure!
Thank you for sharing their stories so beautifully and eloquently. To the residents of slab City I am sorry for who and what was lost in that fire, my heart broke.
Hands down the best documentary. The perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover. These people have empathy and sympathy for everyone regardless of their situation and the look pretty at peace. GREAT JOB. I hope they continue to look out for each other. Miilions of people really need to watch this.
You should honestly run documentaries for tv and stuff. This is amazing
Thank you. That would be nice .

1:23:31 "If you're going to be a turd, go lay on the lawn." That's a keeper and will come in handy with a lot of people I know. 😂
I really liked this, it's well done and in no way I see, judgemental.
My wife and I of 40 years are for the first time in our lives homeless. We have been for two months here in Ocala Florida.
We live on unfortunately private land owned by a large corporation and there are a few others here.
Being disabled I can't walk very far and my wife a 3 time stroke victim has to walk to get our necessities.
We live in a tent, as do the others here, and it's been bitterly cold and lately raining a lot. I say all this because I see slab city as a better situation than ours currently.
I'm originally from California, and while I miss the deserts and mountains I don't miss the issues of my home state.
Anyways, I liked everyone that was on the video, including the investigator/videographer, good job sir, good job...
In closing, not everyone who has become homeless is a criminal or addict, sometimes you become old and get sick and just can't afford to pay a house payment.
Understand, we are all human and have worth, both my wife, a certified chef, and I a business owner just have things go south.
We should ALL be more like slab city residents!! It’s easy to judge others knowing nothing about them but most of us are but one paycheck away from being homeless!! You’re welcome back to Calif anytime and I’m sure the residents of slab city would welcome you with open arms! I can’t imagine being homeless in the rain and severe weather! I’m so very sorry you’re going through this!! As Americans we are failing our elderly our veterans and our disabled population (who deserve better from our gov) and it’s shameful!!! I pray your situation improves! Bless you and your wife!!
I pray for you and your wife to find a home soon.
@@LynetteA68 some reason I was not notified about your reply! I'm so sorry I missed yours. Thank you for the kind words, everything is the same but it could have gotten worse! Take care and bless you..
@@AWomanReborn sorry I was not notified of your comment, thank you so very much..
This country is so ridiculous, failing it’s elders and ill. I shouldn’t have to pay thousands for necessary back surgery. You should not be homeless. It is so sick. I’m so sorry for your situation. It really angers me. I really hope you find the help you need. I have a friend who got a job by admitting they’re homeless and are desperate. And that they were reliable. They eventually made enough to move into a cheap room! I hope you are staying as safe as you can. Sending so much love ❤❤❤
OMG Dot is an angel. I’d love to meet her one day when I ever get to visit Slab City. 🥰
Don't wait until one day. Live your life now.
I’ve watched many Slab docs, at least 2-3 a year pop up. 15 minutes into this one and it’s already the best and most fair representation/reporting on what life is like in the slabs
It makes me think what life would look like after a societal collapse
A social collapse would be lot chaotic it would take like years for it to maybe calm down to an atmosphere like this
Why is it called “slab” city
@@emmanuelquinones9156 old military base stripped off all buildings and only left the concrete slabs. It sits next to an active bombing range.
there is no way you can possibly judge that unless you have visited there.
I would rather have disposable time than a disposable income. These people have life figured out ❤ this was one of the best Slab city documentaries there is! Great work 👏🏻
Top notch raw documentary. A big mixture of emotions and experiences. It really deserves an award. Great job Rick!
Wow, thank you!
We are all broken to some extent. These people are doing the best they can.
Wow, I've seen documentaries about The Slab before but This is the best real down to earth video Ever😊
Yooooo
Damn you should look up the youtube channels coming out of slabs if you want a realistic look onto what it's like.
Peter Santenello covers the same stuff, check him out.
The whole state will look like this sooner than later..........
bro 4 SURE.
most videos are only 20 or 30 mins, and basically make the Slab out to be a damn zoo, it's disrespectful as hell to the ones making it living there for real.
seeing how ppl have clean water supply, and that you can have mail and Amazon delivered there? Amazon delivers FOOD too!
get past the heat and the bugs that PROBLY crawl around, I could live there bro!
long as I could smoke buds and long as I had a bed, I could do it.
if I didn't have kids I think I could do it bro....
do you?
Thank you for this video. I never knew such a place existed. I have the utmost respect for these people who just want to live free and peaceful lives ❤
This video alone, should bring you millions of views and subs.Rick, you absolutely nailed it! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This incredible insight into the lives of Slab City residents was so beautifully shot and edited, that it feels of Independant Film Festival quality.
Fantastic and fascinating documentary!
By far the best documentary I've seen on Slab City. It's crazy how all these people found each other. It seems like a lot of them have suffered through a lot of pain and they found a community where they wouldn't be judged. My husband was a victim of abuse and suffers from mental illness and he's a lot like Bob. He just believes in being a good person and the golden rule. Treat others how you'd like to be treated. Another crazy thing is when you asked them what their biggest wish was and most of them had selfless wishes. They didn't wish for money or anything material. They just want people to have compassion for each other and not judge. I'm glad they have found each other and a community where as long as you treat others with respect, you will be shown the same respect. It's how the world should operate.
Agreed ❤
So well said!!!
Excellent comment.
I agree as well. :)
I thought that I was very accepting of others until I watched this video. Thank you for sharing this because it has helped me to reexamine myself and who I want to be.
Great doc my friend. I was very impressed. The animals crying in pain while they were burned alive just broke my heart.
You have a true gift for this. I hope you get picked up by more networks and the deal of a lifetime cones your way. Simply brilliant.
I'm only familiar with slab city because of the movie "Into the Wild". Doubt I'm the only one.
It's weird to have such strong feelings about a place I've never been in a country I've never visited. This was nice.
Me too!
That city girl in this actually mentioned that.
That's how I knew about slab city. Into the wild.
Im curious, what country do you hail from?
I heard from Brennan Taylor, not familiar with the movie.
I was obsessed with Slab City documentaries for a while. It's probably been 2 years since I've seen one. It's exciting to see an update on the place! New faces, new art, new pets! Thanks Ranger Rick!!

Fascinating. That fire. The dogs cries. Too sad.
I love how open everyone was. That just shows what a great documentary maker the man (sorry I didn't catch name) is. It was endearing how much he appreciated everything.
Thank you so much Aspen. 😍
Well done film Rick. Misfits and malcontents, though they may be, those residents are human beings one and all. They are brave and resourceful, loyal and true to their nature. My hat's off to them all and I wish them happiness.
Thank you so much!
Brave and resourceful.....
That are alive, but your bar is set extremely low for brave and resourceful
If they are so brave & resourceful, then why don't they get the services they need & get a job? There are PLENTY of jobs. I work 3 jobs so I won't be homeless. And I don't have kids, bcuz it's irresponsible to be destitute & bring MORE kids into this mess! 🤦♀️
@@rachelkristine4669 not everybody has to work a miserable job like you. Being a robot to someone else's company is not ideal
22:15 -the same thing happens in poverty stricken areas everywhere, actually. Though I am much better now, there was a time in my life when I was one step above homeless in the middle of West Virginia. I can compare it to that because I'd been homeless for a relatively long time as a youth. Anyway, we had to move into the first place that would have us due to extreme financial distress. The place we got was in a run down trailer park. It was a whole new world in there. Yes, people would communicate and help each other. I provided meals and a place to stay for park children experiencing hard times. For example, my daughter's friend's parents became unemployed so we kept her until the family attained employment. Near the end of the month, when everyone was broke, we'd help with transportation as we were one of two families with a vehicle. But what he says about the places being raided, that is exactly what happens even here in Central West Virginia. Everyone in the park would go take whatever they wanted or needed when someone went to jail, which turned out to be very often. It even happened to me during a week long hospital stay. Everyone promised to keep an eye on things, but when I returned, my home had been ransacked. All medications gone, my clothing pulled out and most gone. Pots and pans, gone. Hygeine products, gone. Even tools and cleaning products were gone. What really got me though, was all the food was gone from my pantry and freezer. There were so many people involved that no one told who did it and no one saw anything. I was never happier to move out of a place in my life.
That really sucks actually, im so sorry to hear that. To be one of the only ppl helping others out with rides and food etc and then to get ransacked by the same community, is just awful. You sound like you have a good heart and I hope you are well ❤
You’d think there would be some camaraderie when you’re all down in out and there you are helping with those things and that’s the thanks you get- how utterly disappointing.
I spent several summers in W.V. McDowell county, I'm glad to hear your doing better now, I've been in the hospital for a while and to come home to my place being cleaned out is so depressing, it took quite a while to get myself back together, anyway God Bless 🙏

I’ve watched just about every TH-cam video on slab city, some of these people I’ve seen in other videos. But this is by far the best one. The Slabbers truly opened up to you. The bunker footage… whoa!
This is by far one of the best documentaries on SlabCity. I think you're probably one of the few people that is actually able to get someone to trust you enough to use drugs on a major TH-cam platform. But you'll see the same type of people if you go into a downtown area. Mostly homeless encampments. Every single one of them has some type of mental illness and drug addiction. That's all this reminds me of is a big homeless encampment where they feel free
I could never live like this by choice but the people are awesome and this was a great documentary. Thanks for the upload

I stayed in the Slabs for a week, in the RV across from Salvation Mountain. It was awesome.
My brother would love living there. He is homeless. He hates feeling trapped. He also is creative and crazy. He can handle the heat but winter is rough in AZ , to much of a change.
There are hints of it in this doc--but I would just say that while the residents talk a lot about freedom, no one caring about expectations, etc., and undoubtedly those sentiments are genuine, there is also a cultural undercurrent that is actually similar to what is heard and seen in prisons. For certain people that might work, but I have known a lot of homeless who would rather be cold than live with the tensions that can go with that.
I want to say thank you for taking the time to share this with us. I have love and respect these folks that have the courage and resilience to follow what their heart and spirit says to do. The fire broke my heart. I hope like Dot said it becomes a place of non judgemental. The fake civilization of plastic people judge you without ever getting to know you. I hope the dog killer is caught. I don't believe they deserve to live. I have a pet business because I have a difficult time with people. Maybe if someone can talk to the dogs, they can help. ❤

This work is exemplary, no shit. Congratulations on your superior ability to present Actual Reality in such a nice light way. The way you blend content, emotion and the throw-away is beautiful to watch. Subscribed and liked.
Totally agree 👍
Amazing work loved this tu
I've been there, it's a great place to go to be reminded why I go to work everyday and never completely give up...
Me too!! People in the comments are glamorizing this place. No readily-available drinking water, no plumbing, no air conditioning in 105+ heat, animal feces and garbage and flies and dirt everywhere, not to mention if you leave for any length of time your place is looted, or if you piss somebody off your place is burned down. And another thing, most of these people are still substance abusers or messed up from past substance abuse, and I'm not talking about weed. Nice as they might be, just the constant manic talking would drive me nuts. And before anyone comes at me, I have close family members who abuse heavy drugs and alcohol, and I've had to live with it and try to stay sane in very insane surroundings and circumstances, so I do know what I'm talking about. I can usually spot the signs, actions, and way of speaking of substance abusers, and again, I'm not talking about weed. I'd give most people one year of living there (to experience all four seasons) before they'd go running back to toilets that flush.
I agree with the previous comments on watching a few other documentaries about slab city and this one tops them all. So many emotions, I might've even teared up in both eyes, and was just frozen with goosebumps. Good work RangerRick. I look forward to watching more of yours soon!

I've been to slab city, but just to salvation mountain. The town closest to it was pretty desolate, but these folks look genuinely happy to be there. It was pretty empty when I visited, and it was September but hotter than hell. That fire gutted me and I pray that all survived it.

Nope. I'll never be living like that. I'll always find a way to take baths and not be a crusty hippy. I'm not going to live in a desert junkpile surrounded by filth, collecting garbage and eating shrooms all day.
@@UnreasonableArticulo I was referring to the desperate homelessness. But OK, bud. 👍🏻☕️
You're a fool
@@UnreasonableArticulo yeah, I'd rather eat my mushrooms knowing I have a house, bed and running water to get back to at the end of the trip
I've been hearing this as much as I've been hearing Democrats are coming to take my guns. In 59 years, there's not been one single Democrat come to my house for my guns.
I have seen ALOT of videos/documentaries about Slab City. I've been interested in it for a long time. It's fascinating. I think this is the best documentary I've seen on it. Awesome job! Thank you for sharing it with us.
This was a beautiful documentary. The ending was absolutely heartbreaking with the sounds and what everyone experienced that night. I pray for all these misunderstood souls. Sometimes you have to take a big risk for a but of peace. LOVE ABOVE ALL❤
I really enjoyed this!! Had no idea it was about over until it ended I was really sucked into this very well done!!!
Thanks for such an awesome video and you did a great job telling their story from a non judgemental point of view. I absolutely love Dot . She's got a great attitude and a down to earth person.
Gives me Jaywick (Essex, UK) vibes which Bald & Bankrupt did not do justice at all to the town. The poorest place in Britain yet the chalets (1000's) have the vibe of Slab City. Wonderful video and thank you to all the residents of Slab City for showing us what kindness is. An example to the western world, very positively.
Your summary at the end was just beautiful of an excellent, candid documentary. Thank you for sharing this with us all.
Slab city reminds me of a video game called Fallout. It really does look post apocalyptic. Those residents there seem to be highly resilient people. If society collapsed tomorrow, they would be the survivors hands down. The life/survival skills that most of these individuals acquired over their life time are not taught in schools but learned from trial and error. Remarkable individuals each and everyone.
I'm just starting the video, but from the looks of it, it kind of reminds me of wasteland... Like they never left
It's seriously Fall Out New Vegas vibe near the Hoover Dam. 😳🐕💀🦴
Looks like Cali after fentynal
Yes, and no; just about every resident out there is living off of some type of government program rather it be: Social Security, food stamps, disability, cash aid, donations, etc. So, even though it may appear on the outside that this is a fully self-sufficient community behind the curtains they are being supported by our tax dollars.
and in GTA 5 is the whole Slab city area in the desert
The fire at the end was the dose of reality punctuating the druggy hot spring chill sesh. The fire department and police still respond, even though the inhabitants don't want to be a part of the system they inevitably rely on in the event of an emergency. This was a really good documentary. Well done.
That really hit me- they don’t want to be part of ‘society’ that they don’t fit into and are badmouthing the ‘system’ but the second they have an emergency they are on the phone ‘expecting’ all the response and service needed for their emergency. I’m not saying they shouldn’t get it- I’m just saying it’s hypocritical and once again it’s that hippie notion where thank goodness someone in society isn’t on drugs and is organized because if they were in charge and I called for an emergency I’m not sure someone would show up help or anyone at all.
They couldn't live without the rest of society, where does their food and water come from etc . Theres no such thing as self sustaining. However they are living as they like and where they fit .
I'm at the end of this video, and I'm clapping and smiling, seriously Amazed!! Thank you!
Im at part 2 but i have to say this has been one of my favorite doc. Ive watched about slab city. Im currently living in my rv (2 years now) with my bf and tiny dog and cat but we live at a year around rv park in the mountains in California so im waaay up north. We have a similar *law* system because the police hate coming up here. We dont have major crime and 90% of our community are felons etc (my boyfriend and i are the only ppl ive met here that dont do hard drugs). I feel safer here than the city! I can go outside and the only thing i really worry about are natural pred. Like a bear😂 you guys can keep the city life i was a nurse for 19 years. Im good over here. I probably wont even notice when the power goes out 😊
I've definitely felt safer in self policed homeless camps than living in a city paying rent to be unhappy inside walls full of stuff.
Been checking out videos about this place since seeing into the wild in 08'. Seems like a lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. This is the standard of excellence as far as the docs go. Outstanding coverage. Magdalen is relatable.Steller lass.
I love watching videos about Slab City and the Salton Sea. I especially love videos on abandoned towns and buildings. This video is one of the best I’ve seen about Slab City. Great job! I will definitely subscribe.
Now with the pleasantries out of the way, are you really NOT going to say anything about that massive fire? Really now!
EXACTLY!!!!
This is a compelling documentary about Slab City and its wonderful citizenry. ❤️ 😊 🌿 🙆🏻♀️ 👍🏽
Thank you for taking the time to reach their hearts and allowing them to reach yours.
Sending love from NZ. 👍🏽 🙆🏻♀️ 😊
You did a great job @RangerRickTV I was rivetted the whole way through
This is the best version of Slab City I've seen.
It's Netflix quality. Good job
Wow! This is just incredible! I feel the energy there is overall generous and caring! Very cool! Thank you for sharing!
My heart broke during the fire. I lived through a fire and lost pets and the person closest to me. I couldn't imagine seeing that regularly. Love and peace to everyone out there. ❤
I was blown away by this documentary!! This had to be honestly one of the best I've seen.
Good Morning Rick, what an amazing documentary on Slab City, such great people each with there own demons & issues trying to live life to the fullest in such an amazing place. It must be a great place to live with all the love & friendship & respect there, thank you for showing this Rick I love all your videos. 😊👍😊
Amazing! Best slab city related content I’ve seen, and I love how you treat people. You will go far because you come of genuine, so people are going to be willing to share wild things with you, looking forward to seeing more from you,
💯💪
Hi Ranger Rick. I want to send well wishes your way and thank you for this great documentary. I have followed slab city for awhile, but you by far did these residents of that community the best justice Ive seen in any interviews by far, I have wanted to get out there the past several years and do what you have done…share stories through a genuine investment (time) and true connection. I’d really like to know whose camp caught fire? And how did they fair? Outside of the obvious of course… my heart sunk when I heard the dogs, and was hoping that wasn’t a person/child screaming towards the end. It kinda looked like Cos place, I saw him intro’d on another channel with a great setup similar to the water tanks I saw in the fire. Many blessings and May your journey continue full of HOPE, HEALTH and HAPPINESS…🤗🙏
Thank you for sharing. Love Slab City. Worked there, on the canal, for more than a year about 20 years ago. Got to know a few of the residents and Leonard, the man behind Salvation Mtn., and learn about Slab City, East Jesus, Niland, Dos Palmas, North Shore, Bombay Beach, etc. I've wanted to go back ever since.
What happens is someone has a heart attack or something?
@@ShellShock11Cambulances go there if they’re called just like fire dept or police but police don’t go unless they’re called there. They don’t bother people there!
We drove through there a few years ago. It was an awesome spot with some really cool people!❤
I actually cried when Bob was talking about things so sad God pray for him and everyone in this world
Slabbers are more eloquent and generally well-spoken than most of what I see on youtube, twitter, tiktok, etc.... Very interesting video, thanks to all involved/interviewed!
Wow! This is such an awesome documentary. I do feel for a lot of these people. But it’s pretty awesome how self self sufficient this place has become. Their is a lot more id like too say. You deserve too blow up the effort put into this documentary is pretty well un matched these days.
I've never seen such a fascinating documentary about Slab City before!
Thanks a lot❤
This has to be the best documentary IV seen. Such a great interviewer. Bless you for being kind 🙏
This was beautifully done. For sure the best slabs doc I've seen so far.
Yoooo 🙏
