nothing can compare to what happened to the hostage casual community with the cs2 "release" we have lost some of the best maps and more importantly the majority of the community has left for good. being stuck in a loop with office and italy is an actual mental battle if you had played those maps back in the day with all the options and now have no choice but to just leave the game or deal with soul crushing nostalgia for the past glory days of 10v10 lobbies playing assualt, militia, and insertion maps. cobble is already being worked on for cs2. cant say the same for hostage mode maps and the 10 year communities valve shutdown. i will never forget how much fun i had growing up on there. Funny stuff, the clip from GK (Gatekeepers) versus Matrix, I was one of the guys who formed Gatekeepers, and it was my idea for us to specialize in cbble, making strats for it, by the time this iteration of the team was running, I wasn't there anymore.
competitive focus on games that started as 12v12 shooters is killing them :/ its better to have maps that are focused on 5v5 and others that are just for the same feel that 12v12 casual games bring, this way we could have more maps and less changes that end up in whole maps being taken off the game.

I remember being thrilled with de_cbble way back when it was new, but I don't think anything could save its fundamental flaws any more than you could with de_aztec. A sequel like Ancient (ie de_aztec2, or more accurately de_maya) would be a better way to salvage the spirit of de_cbble.

I remember just looking after every update in GO if something changed to Cobble or if some small detail was added, only to again wish for next update to fix something else i found when exploring. Man, i miss that map now...
older rulesets and different ideas about what constitutes "balanced" affect competitive viability. 3 minute rounds and the economy settings prior to shaGuar's proposed changes going into effect make cbble a different map. the idea that every map is "balanced" if a team gets to play both halves made for interesting matchups on the ones where getting 3 or 4 rounds T-side was considered an "okay" half (train, fire, cbble). it made pistol rounds more important on those maps, interesting matchups in leagues depending on who had which starting side that week. i won't gripe too much about how things are worse now, but in a league setting or a double elim LAN tourney, with 1:45 or 2:00 minute rounds and the normal 1.6 ruleset, "ct-sided" maps like cbble are completely competitively viable. edit: oh yeah, the molotov negating spawn-based rushes also made any "ct-sided" map like this no longer an option.
Cobblestone reached its peak when it became the map to have the most rare/expensive skin drop during operations, the Awp dragon lore. Other than that, the map was OK, right in the middle if you want to put it in that way.
It was basically a cointoss at pro level but fun to play in matchmaking with friends. Why does the map pool have to be the same one the pros play on? 99.9% of the player base is nowhere near their skill level and would probably have more fun with some more casual maps.
I recently fell in love with the charm of cbble, playing mostly on source. It was a great letdown for me when I tried booting up cs:go beta but it wouldn't even came on, and now learning from your video that it was removed from the game completely. I still like certain parts of the map and I hope to incorporate the more favourable elements into my own maps
The problem with Cobble is the outside area, between T spawn and the bombsides entrance, which is large and meaningless, in 1.6 or even CSGO. One of the Map based off Cobble in competitive 1.6 was de_forged. It was a fun map which some of the ideas was good with 2 seperated entranced to each bombside, but still the main problem wasn't solved at all. Well Aztec was remade into Ancient, then maybe Valve can remade Cobble too.
I think we can all agree aztec was completely unbalanced and not viable for competitive (let alone the active duty pool) but ancient has no verticality and is hellishly boring to watch or play so I think a revamp would be better than a new map entirely
Cbble was never competitively viable. Fun map sure I definitely agree but i can't see it return to the comp pool without basically redoing the whole map. Like what Ancient is to Aztec. Which is highly likely to happen. If we want to bring some old maps again to the pool i'd vouch for Season like come on why is this map forgotten it was so good
The problem is that Ancient isnt any fun to play. Reworking a map until its viable at the pro level makes it boring for most people. They all turn into call of duty maps that are just squares with a path to mid from all 4 sides and a path around the edge of the square. We already have plenty of maps like that.
@@TheSuperappelflap i see where you're coming from. My fav map is Assault and it's nowhere near as being a competitive map. I love wacky fun maps like Vegas and Canals. even in casual nobody voted for it and if everyone went afk and cobble somehow got picked we would just join another lobby because ain't no way we watching a game of hide and seek wile the last person hides in a corner somewhere
Cobble ain't a fan favourite. When I see people begging for it to come back I question whether they've been around long enough to have actually played it. It wasn't a terrible map to play, but it wasn't a good one either. There was very little strategic depth and it was very imbalanced, which was ok when you're playing matchmaking and you're ego peeking and aimduelling, but it sucked to watch pros play. The map had a nice visual design, and obviously the map collection was iconic. I think the aesthetics of the map are a significant factor in why you see so many people ask for it back. If I had to chose between form and function, function wins. I doubt cobble can be turned into a viable map, so I think it's a bit silly that anyone wants it in active duty. Same goes for train. With some small tweaks, Cache, Tuscan, Season, Thera or Dust 2 would make much better additions to active duty.
I guess flat gameplay can be fun to watch for some people, me personally not huge fun of watching 24 played the same way, but I still remember few epic nades exchanges on B entrance from 1.6 top tier tournaments - it's dramatic and random, so it might be exciting.
yes i agree with this guy, but fy_pool_day would be the better choice for pro cs. You know, cbble is a big map but with bigger molotovs and smokes the meta could still change to a viable map with small tweaks. This isnt cs 1.6 or go, this is cs2 and this game is on another level so you cant say that without any evidence how the map would play out
I dont really understand your point about it being too simple ? What map isn’t simple other than Nuke or maybe Vertigo and Overpass, imo it actually was a very unique map that had many tactical options which i think today would play very differently than back in the day. And if we talk about strategic depth then we shouldn’t even mention Cache or Dust 2 since they have none of it.
@@whosTage If we are talking the original then - no, there was not many tactical options to go B - you just had to rush trough choking point, you can't compare it to dust2 or cache because those two had mid lane and you could always go split B with mid (not to mention that cache had actually 2 entrances for B alone). So, yeah, cbble's B was always a problem when it comes to tactical opportunities for TT and I haven't even touched retakes, because having one tiny door for CT for rotation and with that big, big empty space between BS and those doors means that if TT had an AWP then it's virtually impossible postplant for CT. PS. I'm not sure why you mentioned Vertigo as "complex" - in CS:GO initially it suffered for same reasons I mentioned for 1.6's cbble, of course it was changed since, but honestly A executes on that map still look the same and there is not much tactical flexibility there even after changes.
Even if its not the most competetive map, the ct rushes on casual were always so cool, when i began playing csgo it was my favourite map to grab an xm and do weird angles nobody would expect, but valve should focus more on the cheaters now so adding cobble can wait
I started playing cs in 2003. I absolutely love cbble. I have seen amazing pro matches on it over the years. It’s super fun. Maps don’t have to be balanced to be good.

Cobblestone, Cache and Train, 3 of the worst maps. I have never hated any maps more than these 3 in my life. Not even is my hatred as big for Dust2 as it is for these ones...
oh god the noclip / hand motion is rough to watch, in css you got yaw speed so if you aren't gunna use the fancy camera stuff you can turnbind at a low yaw to get nice cinematic shots. csgo t5mat made 3rd party turn binds no clue about cs2 though as I know their surf scene is still trying to establish itself
@@TheSuperappelflap for csgo you need t5mat to actually have custom yaw speeds, while a trusted program not about to tell a stranger to download such things. Otherwise you're stuck at 210 yaw which is ridiculously spinny
I'd love to see a video about de_basalt as well, I mean, expressing your opinion about the map, I love that one! Also... Insertion (1 and/or 2) by Oskmos.
Is that heat map from pros or all players? It really surprised me though because, whilst yes, B is the favourable site with 3 CTs going there and 2 towards A. I'd like to recall A as a site that was contested a fair bit as well. Both in pro play and in my own games (MM all ranks from silver to GE). My only issue with the pre-Halloween update was how far away and big T spawn was. Like 1/3 of the map was just a saving spot around the T spawn. So yeah the big map made for longer games, but I thought it was a fun, balanced and competitive map.
I really liked cobblestone! But damn do I miss cpl_mill/tuscan as well. I don't understand why that map isn't just copied over to cs2 yet. I feel it's a PERFECT kinda map for cs2 as well. AND we could get more "DOOR STUCK" clips!

oh god the noclip / hand motion is rough to watch, in css you got yaw speed so if you aren't gunna use the fancy camera stuff you can turnbind at a low yaw to get nice cinematic shots.
csgo t5mat made 3rd party turn binds
no clue about cs2 though as I know their surf scene is still trying to establish itself
csgo also had yaw speed and turn binds as well as ways to make camera tracks, they are often used for overview shots live during pro games.
@@TheSuperappelflap for csgo you need t5mat to actually have custom yaw speeds, while a trusted program not about to tell a stranger to download such things. Otherwise you're stuck at 210 yaw which is ridiculously spinny
@@kingkurtis there's a variable for m_yaw though, why would you need a program to change that? Or does that not apply for turn binds?
@@TheSuperappelflap yeah unfortunately it doesn't apply for turn binds which is why surfers on csgo had to get the external tool.
Cobblestone was my favort around 2017-2018. CSGO hasn't been the same since.
Cobble was always so fun to clutch on
i miss it and train so much bros 😭
2015-17 Cbble, good times.
The amount of memories..
Incredible Vibey History
Still Fun to have
No excuse to Remove It
Valve’s always so Trigger Happy with That
Slowly but surely Valve managed to remove all of the best maps except for Nuke.
I hope Valve adds this map to CS2, along with some more maps for hostage mode.
I miss Cobblestone, Cache Train :(
I love this map. Wish they would bring it back.
I miss the tower.
I really liked cobblestone! But damn do I miss cpl_mill/tuscan as well. I don't understand why that map isn't just copied over to cs2 yet. I feel it's a PERFECT kinda map for cs2 as well. AND we could get more "DOOR STUCK" clips!
So sad what they did to cbble in tha halloween update, I miss it to this day, such a great map.
im only a little over a minute in and i already love the editing bro
sick video
Cobblestone is the greatest CS map ever made. Would trade Mirage, Ancient and Anubis for that.
cobble has always been one of the best and most fair maps for hvh
am i tripping balls or in the first second of the vid he kinda sounded like the whisper part of polyphia playing God
More videos like this would be cool, maybe a video about train
Bring back cobble, train and cache.
Old Cobble is GOATED
I think cbble will come back, chicken coup is a legendary spot similar to goose on dust2.
But I would rather prefer train and cache to come back, lets see what this summer will bring for cs2.
take me back to cobble please valve
i dont see why they dont add tuscan already since the remake has already been made for cs2
Miss this map soo much
