For all of you lovelies hanging out in the comments: if you haven't purchased the art print yet...do it! Mine just arrived the other day and it is so gorgeous. Officially my favorite art 😍
I'm the old artist who usually prints out her reference. But have been trying to do the laptop screen thing. You reminded me that it's always easier with a ref you can hold in your hand. The printed refs end up completely destroyed with the drips and spills and things, I put them in a special file. Oh yeah, JUST DO THE OILS!! I painted with acrylics for many many years, now I know if you want it to look like oils, just do the oils.
In art school we weren't allowed to use our references digitally we were required to print it out. A screen is making it's own light, while a physical photo is color with the light reflecting off of it.
my favorite part was you talking about how sculpting has made you look at painting more in depth, im not a painter but it was really interesting. you translated your growth really well and its a super cool perspective to have gained. love the geese & watercolor art.
Hi Kris! This was the first video of yours I’ve watched and I absolutely love your painting. This was indeed a short reprieve for me as my dad was just diagnosed with cancer (he’s my best friend) I’m an artist but have not felt inspired to paint this last week since the news of it all. Thanks for sharing and creating ✨🩵
I like coming back to your channel as another artist to another... it helps me stay motivated. It's a funny world for introverts who are creative... we want to be alone to do our art, but we get burned out when we're alone for too long and need someone familiar to kind of revive us... or at least that's how I feel😅 anyway, yeah. Just trying to say I appreciate you for making videos and of course I appreciate you for being you!
Wow. I had surgery almost two months ago and haven’t felt any inspiration to paint or make until I watched this and got hit with the most intense envy and inspiration while watching you paint the edges of that canvas 😂 thank you for this beautiful video. I’m excited to make again!
Never thought to take art to a professional studio to get pics of it. Going to steal that idea because you're so right, taking pictures of canvas is a nightmare.
You inspire me to try painting something bigger - last time I did that was in 2020. It was so beautiful when you said that you woke up and couldn't think about anything except painting the skull painting. Long content is awesome. I could just watch you paint for hours it's so relaxing 💜
To keep the paint wet longer, put a rolled up paper towel soaked with water and place it inside before putting on the lid. Mine lasts a long time that way.
Ha! When your video popped up in my dashboard, immediate reaction was "finally!!" love your videos and listening to you chat when I do my own crafty things. Thank you for putting your work on the Tube
Soooo excited to see a video by you Kristen!! Truly made my day, and your work is beautiful!! I haven’t done ceramics since HS and I miss it so much. It has always been a dream to own a wheel and a kiln, as working clay is so relaxing. Good for those of us with ANXIETY. Thanks for this. 🤗
That painting looks so good. It’s always good to keep a piece of your self and your art just for you. You share so much with so many that it’s nice to keep a piece just for you.
Watching the final process of the skull painting was such a gift - the colours were so beautiful. What a great treat on a sunny winter morning. Subscribed!
Genuinely some of the coolest stickers I've seen! Can't wait to check them out when they're back in stock. Cheers to not using etsy. I'm going to start going that route when I get a shop up and running, I think that's the way to go.
It's easier to blend the paint and have softer edges when the paint remains wet for a long time! Regular acrylic paint dries really fast which can be an advantage if you use a lot of layers, but I like to be able to mix a color and keep using it! I also live in a really dry climate so the dryness can be a challenge! There's pros and cons!
Colors in the painting are awesome, the pinks and purples really pop out and make you want to know more, but the greens are also intensely good. It's a skull then 👍😂 thought could have been a shell or an elaborate wrap/fabric.
Hi! 🙌🏽 thanks for this glimpse into your studio and life worlds. It’s grey here in Ohio at the moment, and it was a delightful mind vacation to see your beautiful work. Hope your upcoming show goes well. 🎉
this was my first video that i have watched and i feel really inspired to draw also just started a pottery class and i totally get what you mean. it’s so much fun creating something 3D!!
QUICK ART TIP TO SAVE PAINT AND MONEY WITH ACRYLICS IS TO GO TO YOUR LOCAL STORE AND BUY CONDIMENT CONTAINERS THE LOOK LIKE SMALL PODS THEY CAN MAKE YOUR PAINT LAST MONTHS OR YEARS WITH NO WATER ADDED I EVEN PREMIX SOME OF MY COLORS AND AND HAVE SO I HAVE MY PALLET LINED UP AND I JUST POP THE LIDS OFF WHEN IM READY TO PAINT AND THEY ARE FRESH AND SOMETIMES I GO A FEW MONTHS WITHOUT PAINTING AND REOPEN THEM AND STILL FRESH.
The skull turned out AMAZING. Great work, it looks very much like oils. I have definitely been feeling the burnout and have taken a few steps back from socials as well. It must be in the air. Final note; I also had an art show called bloom! I love that. I'm sure your show will be incredible. Happy rest of winter. ❤
That painting is AMAZING! You've made me want to give mediums a try with my acrylics. Oil paint is so toxic and gives me such a headache when I work in it. Plus you need so much ventilation.
I'm so happy when you upload a new video! It motivates me a lot to paint for myself (although I study visual arts haha) but it's so hard for me to sit down and say I'm going to do something that's not for college. Also the painting of the skeleton look fantastic!
It'll be at Good Luck Gallery in Kalispell! The show will run from April 4th-July. I'll post more about it on instagram and the gallery has an instagram account as well!

This might have just convinced me to switch to oils! Thank you!!

Love to hear about your process and self reflection on what informs your art❤

Aww thank you so much!! I hope you do! It can be hard but so rewarding
I saw six geese in flight as I was out this morning and immediately thought of the sticker. Life imitates art.
To keep the paint wet longer, put a rolled up paper towel soaked with water and place it inside before putting on the lid. Mine lasts a long time that way.
I love a long video. I’m a potter. There is a good healing vibe hanging out in a communal clay studio. Glad it’s working out for you!😊

Your can also buy slow dry medium for acrylics! And experiment with gel and fluid mediums, and gloss vs matte.

I'd love more info about the show in MT. We're in Helena, and maybe we could go if it's not too far of a drive.
It'll be at Good Luck Gallery in Kalispell! The show will run from April 4th-July. I'll post more about it on instagram and the gallery has an instagram account as well!
