JELLICLE RATS COME OUT TONIGHT- okay I’ll stop now. I just think rats are funny. I’m glad that the Dangan Ronpa V3 fanmade PV for this song helped it to become known amongst the Western Vocaloid fandom, because up until then this was just an obscure fave I thought nobody would be wanting to hear me cover. Maybe one day I’ll come back and do a Dangan Ronpa inspired take on this song, haha…
I had lots of fun singing and writing lyrics for this- I intended to get this done earlier but I wanted to read the basis for the song first, that being The Plague by Albert Camus. Stuff like that is really important to me when I make covers- perhaps it’s a tendency carrying over from when I did musical theatre. When auditioning with a song or a monologue, you were always expected to know everything about the musical or play the song/monologue came from. I think it really helped me to write lyrics. Also I love P.I.N.A., please follow them on twitter: @People_INA! They deserve it.
This song was also a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. Range wise it was totally easy, but it was hard to discern the melody as well as exact rhythm at certain parts (this is why I use sheet music to write lyrics WHEEZES). I wound up referencing both the original Miku version as well as SymaG’s version ‘cause I absolutely adore his version.
Anyway, thanks for your support! Hope to upload some more this month, and also thanks for a great two years! I’m so blessed to have so many kind souls looking forward to what I do in the short amount of time I’ve been active.

Ok, This song is about the book "The Plague", Which I haven't read but I have heard of, From what I know it's about a city and one day suddenly a ton of rats come out and die of the bubonic plague. Most of the story is about the effects of the Bubonic plague on the city it showed itself in.
I know It's WAY too late to add an addendum to a 4 year old post, but the book's about human conflict and the nature of fighting against suffering. It's about the ways people fight against tragedy or suffering, and how the only way humanity can truly win against disasters is by confronting them.
This is one of my favourite songs and I thank you for covering it!

If anyone is struggling to keep up with the fast parts, I'd recommend slowing the video down and singing along when it's slower. You can learn the lyrics and when to sing them, and then as you go, slowly speed it up and you'll be able to sing it! I'm trying this method at the moment and it seems to be working, I can sing most of it ^^

It's mainly about the Plague, a deadly disease that spread to parts of Europe and killed thousands, but it's actually about a book called The Plague written by Albert Camus which released in 1947. A small French town of Oran is attacked by the Plague and multiple problematic events are caused due to it.
In short, it’s about a book written in France in the 1940’s set in that same time!
Controlled oppostion, the normal right and left are the same, once free speech exists we live to see the elite hang.. At least that's what I'm getting from it.

Whenever I listen to this I just think DANGANRONPA V3 and Kill/Cure
I thought the song was ironic in that the spread of democracy is like a plague infection.
So I discussed some of the passages that caught my attention.
1:41 The literal translation in Japanese is "I called in an epidemic, I took advantage of depression and dirtied my hands."
The former took advantage of citizens who were tired of authoritarian regimes, etc., and spread an epidemic (democracy) among them,
The person who created the epidemic abused the system and profited from it.
1:48 The literal translation in Japanese is "Thus we were enriched, we swallowed the lie with junk food."
After some years, the assets of some who profited from democracy were enriched,
The abuse was covered up with easy, cheap junk food (democracy). (Maybe this is where I mention the McDonaldization of George Ritzer.)
1:55 The literal translation in Japanese is, "The voices of fear that God is dead have ceased to cry out."
"God is dead" is Nietzsche's critique of the existing moral spirit of the late 19th century,
No one is left to raise issues as Nietzsche did, and no one is left to worry about democracy.
In other words, the rats (democrats) who no longer think about the shortcomings of the democratic system and have given up questioning it, died.

I love this so much, even after so long. Ok, i gotta say, most of the time when i listen to a cover of a song, i usually refer to the first time i heard it for the first time, and for this one, it was a male cover.
Things is i usually prefer voices that are close to what i heard originally, but your cover is something else.
Despite being a female cover, your tone actually sound perfect, you truly nailed the boredom that the lyrics transcribe and i honestly think it's fantastic 'cuz you didn't tried to go over the top by adding high pitch notes that you expect from a female cover, and it's really pleasent to the hears, almost soothing.

I’m always so impressed at the ability to write lyrics that not only fit perfectly with the melody, but also capture the original meaning AND sound beautifully poetic! I try writing my own lyrics sometimes but man, even just getting them to fit is the music is so hard, much less making them so beautifully poetic too. This is actually based off a book called “The Plauge” by Albert Camus, where the French city of Oran had been struck by the plauge due to multiple problematic causes
