    The smell is because of the binder that contains alum water and gelatine/ animal skin glue. That's also causing the binder separation in the tube due to the temperature. The paints that are opaque are made from mineral pigments, and the transparent ones are from dye or are plant-based. Calling them watercolor is a bit of a stretch. Those are Chinese pigments, they have different uses and perform differently. If you try to mix them too much they become muddy, if layered with water they will not perform well, but layered with an alumn-glue solution they can layer a lot. It would probably be better to say that they are the Chinese versions of nihonga paints like gansai tambi.

    These paints have worked really nicely with your characters! I love the way they look. The paints seem really good, and I would love a set because I like the way they look where you have layered them. Beautifully presented too! What’s not to like? Thanks for the review, I was aware this set existed but it is always nice to see them painted out. Even the swatches looked really nice and I could see that they could have a lot of different uses.

    Thank you for this video. I once taped a tube that broke but it still dried. I advice you pour your broken tube in a pan or something. Because is very difficult to get the dry paint out of the tube. Hope this helps you. I couldn't find any help years ago when this happe to me.

      Thanks for the info! Maybe I should think about it and make a video on how to deal with a dried out tube?

    You could hot glue lines to separate the colours in the larger areas, if you want separation.
    I bought the two round-boxed sets - the precipitating and granulating colours. Have you tried those yet?

    It’s interesting that you mention that they have a smell. Do you have M Graham watercolour paints? Do they smell as well?

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      M.Graham paints sometimes smell, but it's not every color and it's not always the same colors, if that makes sense.

      @@EveBolt I only have two tubes, so I can’t really comment. The two I have are Azo Yellow, which smells eggy (like beaten egg whites), and Prussian Blue, which smells fishy (pun not intended 😅).

    Do they provide pigment info?

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't find any when doing my research, but then again I don't read or speak Chinese so part of the info is not available to me.

    • @Horsewoman-pt2ku

      @@EveBolt I saw another review after yours and they said they couldn’t find pigment info either. I personally think the paints are kinda expensive for no pigment info from what I remember

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think Chinese paints sets I've seen came with pigment info either... I wonder if it's always like that.
