    Although the Volkswagen Touareg shares a platform with the Porsche Cayenne, it offers a very different package compared to its German brother.
    With four-wheel drive, a luxurious interior and a V6 diesel being its sole engine derivative, it is fair to say that the Touareg is aimed at those that want to traverse everything from city streets to countryside.
    Watch our video review above as we take the 201bhp variant of the V6 diesel for a spin.
    Can the Touareg really tackle models like the BMW X5? Watch our video review above to find out, or skip to bits of key information using the links below:

    I am not an SUV person, but when I recently went to a Porsche dealer, I was surprised at just how much the Cayenne appealed to me, but then there's the price. This new Touareg seems to offer most of what the diesel Cayenne offers at a significantly reduced price. Of course, in that context the 262 bhp version of the diesel Touareg would be the one to go for. I used to be a luxury coupe person, but as I've got older I've gravitated towards luxury sports saloons and four door coupes, but as I said, the Cayenne really impressed at the Porsche dealer, when I really went to check out the new Macan, but really thought the Panamera was the Porsche for me (and still do, but the Cayenne surprisingly still pulls me towards it, and my wife loves it). The Macan was just too small in the back; as far as I'm concerned the back in that car is only suitable for small kids. My wife is small and she was cramped in the back behind my driving position. Anyway, I think the new Touareg may well find its way onto my driveway, albeit my wife's side.

      I could be wrong but I think Porsche and Audi share the same platform as the Touareg.
      I have a Land Rover Discovery and I am thinking of replacing it with one of these. The Cayenne is a beautiful vehicle but I am sure that the Touareg is just as good off road but cheaper.

      bighands69 You are right about the shared platform. I think you will find the Touareg the closest to your Disco in terms of comfort. There is a comparative review somewhere between the Range Rover and the previous incarnation of the Cayenne. Surprisingly the Cayenne kept up with the Range Rover off road, at least on that particular course, which looked medium difficulty to me, but as I said I'm not really any kind of SUV (or off-roading) expert. Best of luck.

    Absolute steal now and VW almost giving them away. I just bought a brand new R line with 9k of extras reduced from list price of £54k to £37,500 by the time i had negotiated with the dealer! I can't think of a car which costs £38k which would even come close.

    Great car. More understated than its rivals, but that's no bad thing. Lease deals are v. Competitive too. You don't spend 40k on this or any other car for that matter unless your mad. Lease things that depreciate (like cars), buy things that appreciate (like houses).

      phil cambers Great car?I Will pray for you. You need not talk that way. It appears that a Ltd of VW people have issues. God bless

      @cambo6782 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to pray for me. Unless this is some sort of religious thread I've accidently bumped into? Every car has "issues" but the new model Touareg isn't one of them that has any major known faults. Anyway each to their own, but I like my big 3.0 V6 lump.

    I think the interior would be much more appealing if they ditched the glossy walnut dash and opted for a matte finish wood dash, or a sleeker-looking brushed aluminium one.
    Also, there seems to be no cream leather options at the moment. All black leather can be a bit drab.

    Bargain. Same engine, gearbox, brakes and chassis as cayenne 262. Speceed up a cayenne costs 70k to get it to same spec as a base touraeg r line. Drove both. Touraeg drove better as more relaxing. Same double wishbone suspension. Have my Porsche for the weekends for real driving!

    • @Audidude
      @Audidude 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly - why have a 911 and a Porsche SUV?? Touareg far better value and does same work - which is why I bought it. 911 is the Porsche to have!

    In my opinion still a fantastic car , shame about the emissions scandal that has surfaced but hey will still get one providing the common errors can be rectified.
    Currently where I live prices have dropped substantially. Now more than ever the price is right.

      They are understated and the Touareg is very good off road. I have driven on extensively and think it is just as good as my Land Rover discovery off road.
