I survived East NY projects. We last lived at Brownsville before my sister died. I remember the first day we move into the project apartment a guy was shot in the elevator right before we entered it with our furniture. Crazy memories yet Brownsville was about surviving and family. Loyalty and respect. We lived in East NY - Pitkin, Atlantic Ave, and Mother Gaston. Glad to see that previous rivals are now communicating. Anyone that survive living at any of the East NY Projects can make it in any city / hood. After being in the streets of East NY, Bedsty, Crown Heights, and Flatbush I give God thanks for taking me out of the street. After my sister died, I decided to go to college...then I joined the Air Force and that was the best decision I made that changed my life. Respect and thanks for this video.

I did a lot of work around these communities and i have to say- even as a white boy- there was much love- all that racism jazz only exists in the news- whenever i could i would help the kids out- teach them things in my trade and even used to pay them to do things like help me carry things, if they wanted to wash my van- ive given them money to start selling waters and learn the value of making money- i loved the kids and they showed love back- its amazing the positive you can bring out in the youth when you make them feel important and learn the values of making a living through work instead of getting into trouble- they used to brag to me about how many waters they sold or when they could buy their mom something for mothersday because they made money- and i never felt so humbled. the hoods have their bad moments- but we all people just trying to make a better life- lack of opportunity is destructive- I APPLAUD THESE GUYS FOR LOOKING OUT FOR THE KIDS- GODBLESS AND AMEN!

It's good to hear these guys want to make more for the next generation coming up. History will keep repeating itself unless someone steps up. And what so many people don't understand is growing up in the projects options are limited. And when you're growing up you look up to people around you and in some places you need protection cause if you're not in you're out. But anyone has the option to take these kids in and set them on the right path early. Governments never gonna try and help so we have to. Respect to this dude. To put this in perspective, Brownsville has the lowest average lifespan of any neighborhood in New York, and the highest infant mortality rate in the city. There are 18 different housing projects in the neighborhood (the most densely concentrated area of public housing in the U.S.). 30% of its residents are high school graduates and only 8% of the population holds a bachelors degree. 28% of the population lives in poverty. I have always been shocked of the conditions of the neighborhood, but its improved a lot from even 10 years ago, but 2020 changed that along with the rest of the city.

I've lived in NY pretty much my entire life and I couldn't even imagine growing up in the PJs being exposed to violence on a constant basis. I hope some day our Black people will wake up and realize that we are all responsible for each other. Harming each other does nothing. Fighting and dying over neighborhoods that no one actually has any ownership of is crazy to me. Nonetheless, Brooklyn has always been my second home. I want to see us correct and build each other up. There is SO MUCH more outside of that 4 block radius and I hope they all have a chance to explore it.

Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY. My neighborhood wasn't dangerous like Brownsville, but I was never allowed to go to Brownsville, Bed Stuy or East NY as a kid and I think that's a testament to what the guy in this video is saying. These are very much "If you not from here, don't come here" type of places. From what my family told me, it was like this in Brownsville in the 40s through 60s as well..they had a huge family so they were able to move pretty much every where. All my father's friends were my uncles and aunts for life definitely family based

I’m an Ole Visitor from Trinidad who lived in Seth Low project and my wedding reception was held at Seth Low community center in July 1992 . My exwife still lives on the corner of Mother Gaston ( aka Stone Ave) and Sutter Ave across from the library. I love me some Brownsville uh huh

Love these vlogs, they are misunderstood massively in these area and the media just shows them as people who just kill and rob anyone when that’s clearly not the case when you listen to what they say first hand
