    I did find one like it. 95 magna 750. My very first motorcycle ever. I'm learning on it. I got it, 1 October 2023, it took a couple of days to get my feet up. I'm going down the road now. Turns are shakey, but I'm working through it.

      Nice!! I'm 6foot and thought about getting the seat re-shaped so I can sit a little further back, if that makes sense, but as a "taller" rider, it works just fine as is for sure!

      I’m looking at a 1994 right now. I have owned a Kawasaki Ninja 650 and an HD sportster. This seems like the best of both worlds. The ‘94 needs a paint job and has some surface rust because it really hasn’t been ridden much. It only has 16k miles between two owners. I am only 5’3” and when I sat on this it fit like a glove. It has to be one of the most comfortable seating positions I have ever experienced. I am pretty sure I am going to get it. It sounds like a monster.

    When I went back to riding after a 20+ year respite, I bought a 2003 Magna. It was the last year that Honda made them, and I really felt bad about that. The Magna is a fabulous all-purpose ride. I've taken mine on tens of thousands of miles of extended road trips, and have used it daily as a commuter bike to work in downtown Philadelphia, Baltimore, & D.C., where it performed well in heavy traffic and was a maneuverability champ at evading jaywalking pedestrians and deep, hard-to-see potholes. It's gets impressive gas mileage, but also has plenty of power. Several times, I looked into switching from the four-cylinder Magna to a V-twin, but they all felt comparatively sluggish. I eventually bought a 1700 cc V-twin, but returned to the Magna within 2 years.
    The bike "fits me" really well, almost as though it's a part of me. I did eventually have to install foot pegs; I have long legs that tended to cramp up on lengthy road trips where I wasn't shifting frequently. But, other than that, the Magna is perfect for me.

      The Magna IS a V twin. Not sure what you are comparing it too in your reference? The Magna is a 90Degree angle motor which, in it's design, counteracts ALL vibration inherent in ALL other V4 motors. Although it's not easily noticeable, it is true.

    I had first gen V45 Magna as my very first bike 30-some years ago. I bought it used with bad paint for$800. It turned out to be a good buy. I learned to ride on it. I commuted on it, getting me off the San Diego trolley. I took it on long cross country rides, solo and with others. That bike took me down Baja, up the coast highway, even to the Grand Canyon on a solo Iron Butt ride. Yep. Good first bike.

    Thanks for posting this. I'm 52 and just bought a 97 as my first bike ever. Only paid $800 and it runs great. And yes I dropped it the first time I tried to take it out in traffic. Only problem I've found is it's a little tight for me. I'm 6'6" and the controls seem a little too close and my size 17 boot doesn't want to fit under the shifter. I almost fit better sitting on the rear seat. Im looking into ways to modify it this winter for a spring riding season.

    • @SethMichael
      @SethMichael  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You got a great deal!! It is a little tight with the seating position and mid controls. Even for me at 6 foot. There are some companies out there that make forward controls for these bikes which would move your foot pegs up towards the front of the engine. I was also thinking about having the seat re-done to add a few more inches towards the back. I find myself sitting on the ledge between the back seat and front seat.

      Ouch! As a longtime Magna fan, I feel your pain.
      As a female rider, I've always had the opposite problem: so many cruisers have been, and are, designed for men who are at least 5'9" or 5' 10". The Magna was a godsend - it fit me like a glove. If one's goal is to feel "at one" with the bike - and mine is - the Magna is perfect. One drawback: I'm only 5'5", but have longer legs than most men I've known. Before I got some aftermarket pegs and attached them in a far forward position, long highway journeys with infrequent shifting and stops could lead to cramping in my legs and LB spasms. I was lucky that such an easy and inexpensive solution took care of my problems.
      Hope you find some workable solutions to your issues. The Magna is surely a sweet ride.

      @evening6402 ปีที่แล้ว

      True that, @LostinTimeYT! I've left a LOT of bikes behind when stoplights turn green. Since I'm female, some of their riders don't handle that in the most enlightened manner. But, fortunately, attitudes toward women bikers have evolved somewhat since my late '70s college days.

    I bought my 94 Magna with 19k miles in 2014 from the orriginal owner. it was in great condition w/loud Cobra slash cut slipons.
    I put over 20k miles on it that first year. At 40k on the OD, It never leaked or burned any oil.
    I always rode at 80 to 100 mph. The bike got redlined almost daily.
    I ended up switching to a rather expensive semisynthetic racing oil, that very noticeably increased performance.
    I just stopped checking the oil because it was always full, lol.
    I never had to repair anything other than fork seals and the Stater.

    I got a 2001 Magna 750 back in 2019 from a guy, him and his buddy usually flips cars but the bike came from a storage unit auction. He said all he did was charge the battery and put a rebuild kit in the carbs and it's a great bike to ride. The real treat was it only had 9,889 miles on it. I haven't gotten to ride as much as i like but its only got like 14,XXX miles on it in my garage right now. Not my first bike but a great bike frfr. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 8 yo but my first street bike was an '85 Nighthawk 650.
    That is a fun bike too. Iys like in the era of the transition of cruisers to ctotch rocket so it's sporty looking and got some punch to it. I still have my Nighthawk but its been sitting for sometime and needs work, I'll get back to it at some point. Damn i didn't mean to ramble but the video sparked a lot of memories for me.
    So I'd have ro agree that yes, the Magna is a great bike, even as a first bike✊️💯❤️✌️

    I’ve owned mine since 2007and love it as well. At its weight and power level I do t know if I would promote as a first bike. That depends on the size and weight of the rider and there ability to learn to ride quickly. I’m 76 and have ridden since late fifties and have ridden many motorcycles. I also have a CTX1300A . I just love the V4s. I’m too old for sport bikes . The Magna has super low speed handling so that is good for a new rider. I’ve had mine on the Dragon twice and loved it. I’ve made it my own with new paint, saddle, bags, polished the wheels and forks. Installed the Dave Dodge jet kit in the carbs, progressive fork springs and rear shocks. Also a stainless steel brake hose as well. It now has 54,000 miles on it and purrs like a kitten. I do my own work. Also make sure you check the secondary air filter behind the left chrome faux air filter cover. It can crumble and allow parts of the filter to be sucked up into the carbs. Great video. I love the sound the V4 makes.

It has to be the most comfortable bike to ride a long distance on that I have ever ridden. I did change the rear sprocket to a 36T in place of the stock 40T. That tamed the slippery road somewhat. I've been riding Hondas for 40 years, mostly Shadow 1100's, which are very solid bikes and look decent. In 2018 I decided to buy a 2004 purple/cream Magna with about 27k miles. Agree with you it's a good-looking cruiser with solid giddy-up when you feel like playing in traffic. Or am I the only one who would dare? Anyway, I love the easy shifting you mentioned, also the great location for the foot pegs for comfort or cornering. I've put about 10k on this bike and spent about $3.4k to buy and another $1k for a total rebuild of the engine and electrical system. Absolutely a bargain for the look, comfort and torque this bike has to offer. Highly recommend.

      @InterWebGuy, I agree completely w/your final assessment. And it's a GREAT bike for both pastoral cruising or city congestion. Before retiring, I commuted to jobs in Philadelphia, Baltimore and D.C. The torque and maneuverability made merging into fast-moving expressway/interstate traffic safe and easy, and evading pedestrians and potholes (not to mention texting commuters in gigantic pickups) a cinch. It's just a kickass, FUN bike!
      The Magna is such a PERFECT bike in so many ways that I could never understand why Honda discontinued it in the early aughts, replacing it (and the iconic Valkyrie) with the bulky, oversized, sluggish, singularly unexciting 1300 and 1800 models.

    "this bike is not going anywhere".. lol I hear you bro! Fact is I also have 3 bikes. 83 V65 with 20,000 on it.. 2012 shadow spirit immaculate.. and the 96 magna Pearl. In my 70s have owned or riden nearly every kind of bike there is. If I had to choose just one bike to live with, it would be the Pearl. And most likely if anyone rode one they would have to have one the same as you and I. In most circles it is still considered the best all around muscle cruiser ever built. 85 hp 12 sec 140mph muscle bound cloud. More nimble and quicker than the Valkyrie, yet absolutely the most forgiving and controllable bike anywhere. First bike owner? Get one.

    You had me thinking I was in a simulation for a minute!! I just traded my òld tundra that is a bullet proof truck but it has just been sitting in the drive way gathering dust. My buddy brought his neighbor/friend over. He said he has a 99Honda magna he would trade. Now my pops was a biker so I grew up around clubs naturally learning allot about bikes growing up but never heard of the magna ( probably cause back then it wasn't even an option to ride anything but Harley or atleast American built.) Long story short I'm a small dude, 5'5" 150lbs but I'll tell you what I was damn near having to lay down on the tank to keep the front end down haha . One of those moments where you used to race moto x blablabla thinking I was still 17 not 36 and not riding a big bike for a decade but you know I had to romp on that thing and I'll say the hype is real for a cruiser that girl had some pep in her step. Id recommend anyone questioning to buy this bike it's got more power than you need for a1st bike but shifting is just forgiving enough for a new rider that you should be able to get up n go
    P S. my short ass. Self has no problem double feet down almost flat foot so that's another plus for the new guys . Just remember to respect her tho cause you'd be surprised how quick she can giddy up at a moments notice. GOOD LUCK

    I dont think these bikes are the best for ALL beginners but its far from horrible. The brakes on mine just aren't that great and while they arent blazing fast they are fairly quick, you will outrun just about any other cruiser out there save for the out right muscle bikes like the vrod, rocket 3, vmax etc. So the potential to get into trouble that you don't have enough brakes for is there which is what would concern me with a new rider on one.
    That said they are the same weight as a Sportster 1200, which is fairly manageable while also having a lower seat height. This means even the inseam challenged such as myself can easily get two feet flat down while seated, helping with confidence and stability. The motor has plenty of torque and midrange power so no need to rev it to the moon to avoid stalling on take off which for those new to clutch operation can be a problem. Also, it's a Honda, old school Honda at that, so they are very reliable.
    Simply put I love mine and I have no idea why people pass these up as much as they do.

    • @SethMichael
      @SethMichael  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The power/brake point is a good one. I still need to change fluid and such, but even before with good fluid, you're right, you could definitely get yourself into trouble pretty quick. This winter I'll be doing the final maintenance items to mine to make it 100%. And yes, it's crazy. A lot of people haven't even heard of these before!

    Hola, hace más de 20 años que tengo Honda Magna 750. Es la mejor moto que he tenido, superior en todo al Harley. Las motos de fabricación japonesa, son las mejores del mundo. Primero he tenido el Honda Super Magna 750, año 1987, y la cambié por el Magna 750 año 1998. Para mí, el super Magna año 1987/88, es más bonita, con sus cuatro caños de escape hacia arriba, llanta trasera ciega, y además es cardánica. En cambio la del año 1998, tiene sólo dos salidas de escape, y no es cardánica. Pero igual es hermosa, y me la quedo para siempre. Ni loco la vendo. Ahora me quiero comprar una. Royal Enfield Interceptor 650cc, para cambiar un poco. Me quedaré por siempre con ambas motos. Lastima que no sé casi nada de inglés. Espero me entiendan un poco. Un saludo desde Argentina. 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷...

    I've had to I had 30,000 on my first one before the engine started knocking and I've got 32,000 on my second one and going strong. Got a K&N air filter and put stage 2 jets in it which I think may have been a mistake. I've lost power and gas mileage since then.
    And laying it down? 😂 if you don't lay down your first bike did you even learn to ride

    • @SethMichael
      @SethMichael  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "if you don't lay down your first bike did you even learn to ride" 😂 exactly! lol. I also did the K&N filter, but can't remember the jet size I'm running off the top of my head. I believe I ended up going one size up on pilot and leaving the main. But for the baffles being taken out it runs really good with no hesitation! I've always gotten around 90miles before hitting reserve. (I'm usually heavy on the throttle.) lol

    I bought a 2000 Magna about a month ago as a first bike partly becasue of this video. 27k~ miles and it runs and feels amazing on the road. I am curious about the carboration maintenance you mention. When I got new tires put on the shop recommended I use some fuel system cleaner in my gas when I filled up next. Is this the kind of maintenance you're mentioning or is there more to it I should be looking in to?

    • @SethMichael
      @SethMichael  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congrats on the bike! If you ride it quite a bit, you shouldn't have to worry about the carbs too much. The issue is they start to gum up if the fuel sits in the carbs. I usually run an octane/fuel cleaner through my tank once a month or so just to keep it all clean. Also, I always run 93. I can let this thing sit for a month and it'll still start right up and run perfectly!

      Can't lean as much as a naked bike, but better than any other cruiser especially a vmax. Magna's are long and low, but everything is tucked in. The pegs scrape gently before the pipes to announce you are at the limit, which is symmetrical left and right.
      The brakes are the biggest weakness. I still loved the 12k miles I rode on mine

    I absolutely do not recommend the Magna as a first bike. I've had two. A 1988, which is very different from this one, and a 1997. They are way too big, heavy, and fast for a beginner. If you are a true beginner, you need a Honda Rebel 250, a Yamaha V-Star 250 or TW200, a Suzuki TU250 or VanVan 200, something small, lightweight, and slow. The Magna is a great bike for someone with a few years experience, but certainly not for a beginner. I did have problems with the cam chain tensioners on both of them.
