NIA is nothing but, National Investigating Agency. They work on the inputs given by Intelligence agencies like RAW. For suppose the Intelligence agency provides information that terrorists are planning an attack in some place in India, the NIA officers find the terrorist and burst the attack.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a statutory entity that works under the Ministry of Home Affairs' administrative jurisdiction.
It was introduced by the then-home minister in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks and passed with little resistance in Parliament.
The NIA was established as a result of the NIA Act, which was adopted on December 31, 2008.
Head of the Agency: The NIA is headed by a Director-General. He is appointed by the federal government. His abilities are similar to those of a state's Director-General of Police.
The NIA is administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The state government provides every aid and cooperation to the NIA for the investigation of the offenses outlined in the NIA Act.
Currently, the NIA serves as India's Central Counter-Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency.
