Back in the 1980's I was into Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Bruce was not even on my list of performers I would EVER consider seeing live, let alone buying his albums. In 1985 Bruce was touring in support of the "Born in the USA" album and my dad happened upon four tickets. He asked me and a friend if we'd like to go. We said yeah, sure, whatever. On the way into the L.A. Sports arena people were offering us money for our tickets. Not just face value but as much as 10 times face value. We were in shock, and actually thought about selling these two tickets several times. Finally, nearing the door, we were offered $500 dollars for these tickets! Oh man we wanted to sell them soooo bad. Me and my friend had already seen well over 25 concerts by this time and Springsteen was never considered as a possibility. I knew I couldn't sell them because my dad would be pissed, so we reluctantly said, NO THANKS, and entered the Sports Arena to a PACKED HOUSE. No opening act, just the lights on and the sweet smell and foggy air filled the arena. We could feel the excitement but were still unsure about this dude. After meeting up with my dad some minutes later we realized how good the seats were. The lights went out, the drums beat so loud and hard, while the guitar slowly found its rhythm. Soon the stage filled with performers, all wailing on their instruments with a sound so crisp and clear that if you wanted to, you could single out any one instrument and listen to it. I remember when Bruce came out and I heard 18k people sound like they were booing him. I looked over at my dad to see he was yelling BRUUUUUUUUCE! This dude played for 4 HOURS and we stood up for every minute of that show. Nearly every song had a story, and every song was awesome! When it was finally over after a few encores, we left dripping in sweat, ears ringing, exhausted, no longer wondering why so many people wanted to pay such a high price for those tickets! I have been a Springsteen fan ever since. Bruce doesn't tour much, but when he does I encourage you to go out and see him. And finally, RIP Clarance (Big Man), we never met but you sure moved me with your style, grace and perfection. Thanks Bruce for the memories.
I have to say, this is a great story & Bruce Springsteen is definitely an underestimated artist. I love him. I forgot about him. Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to add to my Spotify @biffbiford. Again thanks for sharing Yvonne Chavez
i totally understand young people today when they can't figure out why us older people revere Bruce. all i can say is the same thing you will tell your sons and daughters when they ask you what you were thinking in the music you listened to or the clothes you wore. just tell them that the time was right. i am a massachusetts boy who went to college in the area in the early 70's. it was a depressing time music wise. so many of our rock idols of the 60's had died of overdoses. it was the disco era. we all had given up on rock and roll. when such rock icons as the Stones and Rod Stewart start making disco songs, you knew that rock was dead. the best thing though. so many Jersey kids came up to the Boston area colleges. they brought Bruce's music with them. OMG!!! i couldn't believe it. this music actually exists in this disco era? Bruce's music rejuvenated us and rescued us from disco. he not only brought rock and roll back, but in a way that nobody had ever scene before. the first time that i saw him play in the early 70's at the Music Hall in Boston i was mesmerized. he had all the horns from southside johnny playing with him. what amazed me the most was here was this young kid in his early 20's, with 15 of the best musicians in the world, all playing together flawlessly. i was hooked. the thing is, Bruce has never changed. he is the same person now that he was back then. dedicated to musical perfection and number one. pleasing his audience. and just a good human being. i am so thankful that i was young at the same time that Bruce was young. bearing witness to one of the greatest writers and rock and roll artists of all time. thanks for everything Bruce. especially for saving us from disco
I was into Bruce long before people knew him. 1975 Born to Run came out. He has always been there in happy and sad times. I'm 63 will be 64 on his Birthday. He will be 74. I've been obsessed with him since then, his music his life, I love Patti too. She is a great musician and songwriter. You can sort of follow his life through his music. My 35 yrs old son loves him too. Plays guitar, he loves Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad Live forever Boss❤❤

If only people could see this... I didn’t not grow up while Bruce was young, I was born at the beginning of the 21st century but he has helped me trough my darkest moments. My parents did live when he was there, publishing Born In The USA, The River... but didn’t listen to him much as we are not from America. When I put them this video and many others more, he says, “We never saw him like this... we just listened to his music, which is not the same when you don’t know English” I’m lucky to know English so I can enjoy, cry, dance and live with his songs. Thanks Scooter, you’ve brought joy to many people.
We will never see this again ... so happy i've seen them so many times together. What a couple. Which artist can do this, all that fun and talking without losing his public? No one accept Bruce and that makes him so great.
Damn. I'm 18 and in the same spot as Bruce was. Depressed, lonely, and confused. Thanks to people like Bruce, I'm able to see the goodness in life. Wherever that is.
This was shot on 10/2/85 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Closing night of the Born in the U.S.A. Tour. I've seen Bruce and the E Street Band about 18 times since then, but nothing compares to that magical night. It may not have been one of the best sets of all time, but the energy in the stadium that night was incredible. A night I will never forget! Todd and Gary, this is for you!
We were there as well. Wasn’t supposed to be the last night but was moved if I recall correctly. Those were the early days of my Springsteen experience. (Now 31 shows and counting) Beginning at the sports arena and running over two years, I saw 3 arena and 4 stadium shows of this tour in my early days of college. I agree this was a great show and that huge stadium was indeed “Electric”! As was the redeye flight out of LAX full of fans heading north after the show singing our favorite songs long into the night.
LVNinthe PNW, I was there too and you are right, the Monday night show on September 30 was supposed to be the last one. I originally had tickets for The first show and the Monday show but when this became the last show, sold my tickets for show 1 and got these instead. Would love it if this was the show they use for the eventual Born In The USA box set.
1985 was the year I met Bruce. Out of his car he bounded right up to a small group of us who'd been waiting outside his Melbourne hotel all day for him :) His security guards had to finally rush him away, he wanted to talk and talk to us and pose for photos and sign autographs. It still makes me smile 28 years later. :) The Boss and The E Street Band, awesome awesome awesome :)
If anyone has had the ultimate pleasure of seeing Bruce Springsteen & The East St, Band in concert it's incredible. But when Clarence came into the fold it was like UNBELIEVABLE MAGIC.... The first time I heard the band was on an album my friend just bought love it! Fews years later I got to see them perform in Santa Barbara at the Bowl. I was breathless. An unforgettable concert...they are one on a list of special bands that bind the foundation of ROCK'N'ROLL!
I remember calling my radio station, back when FM was free form and DJ's played whatever they wanted, and always had great stories to tell, and requesting Bruce Springsteen 'Spirits in the Night'. DJ just said, "never heard of him" and hung up. I didn't know whether to laugh or be appalled. The DJ is gone, Bruce is still here though.
Nothing like our first Bruce in concert memories I can remember waiting in line downtown Pittsburgh at Kaufman’s for over 24 hours in 87 and hell that was a great time
Thanks so much for posting this. I have enjoyed it immensely. I have seen Bruce and the band in concert more than 20 times and i am not the only one that can never get enough of it!
Once I heard and read the lyrics of Dankness on the Edge of Town while listening I was awestruck. I'd never had an experience even close to how that experience made me feel. At that point I was a die hard fan forever. In my opinion the greatest artist of any genre ever. Absolutely!!!
LMAO!! This is awesome on so many levels. Truly THE BEST concert footage of my favorite artists in the whole great big world. THANK YOU so much for sharing this, kudos!!
I think I’ve maybe seen a piece of this before; but I’m not sure why I haven’t seen the whole thing until now. Bruce is today and always has been a wonderful storyteller (in or out of a song) and a fantastic performer. Love the man and his music! What a wonderful legacy he’s built (and fortunately for us, he’s still working on it)!❤️
Saw him on 10 June 1973 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia when they played as the warm up group for Chicago. Next day I went out and bought the album since Welcome to Asbury Park was not on 8-track. FANTASTIC SHOW!!
Thank god bruce you did not end your life as your music brought a lot of people light in there life, and hopefully you feel fulfilled and still live your life the way you want😇
Come on, who can not get that??? This man just moves me in ways I can't always explain and I am forever thankful that he has been such a huge part of my life. Dream Baby Dream

He did this at one off the shows I went to at the Cotton Bowl back in 1985! It was a wonderful surprise! I actually heard this song on the piped in music at the grocery store yesterday.
What I love so much about Bruce is that he is soooo New Jersey. For example, the broken radio is the worst part of the eff'd up car!! And, yes, I've driven through the woods of which he speaks. Actually, I grew up in them. If Bruce loved me 1/10 of the way he loved Clarence, I would be happy! Love those two together.
luv this vid!!!look at the boss now!!!!what a storyteller, poet.musician my favorite music artist on the planet!!!im in my late 50s now and still listen to bruce juice everyday!!!been following him since jersey shore days!was lucky enough in my college days saw him showcase"BORN TO RUN" at small n.y.c. club"THE BOTTOM LINE" 4 music industry people!a memory still alive 2 this day!!!i knew then that he would b a huge success!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 1978 it just were soo f-king good. thats when i was 20. I was Young, now i am old 20-- 57, not fun but a Life in the shadow of Bruceand The Golden Sax Clerens
Damn I remember this. BITUSA tour L.A. Coliseum. I saw the first leg October 1984 at the L.A. Sport Arena, a much smaller venue. This video is the last night (October 2, 1985) of a monster world tour. Bruce & ESB made a show for 80,000+ fans seem to be a small club gig. This night was magic and never duplicated with all the Springsteen shows I have seen since 1978.
RIP Big Man. Bruce and Clarence showing how skin color is just that... Wish we would all take the time and be friends and learn to make awesome music as people....
There is NO storyteller that is his equal...in his lyrics, in the breaks bt/middle of the song...true, untrue, greatly embellished...all is masterful...so easy for him.
Back when Bruce spoke to us, when black folks weren’t just stage ornaments and it wasn’t a static greatest hits list with $250 for illegally auto signed books outside the venue.
You should try "Talk To Me" from Tampa this past year. from the Darkness out takes. Not story telling, but so much goofiness and a lot of fun. Will definitely put a smile on the face of such a loyal, old fan as yourself. You sound like such a diehard fan! He has so many!

I don't know why, DAMN, but: any story + B.S. song = inner Peace + Admiration, love and gratification + lots of tears! Nice story, man!

the most epic bromance this world has ever seen
Yeah, i think so too...
My thoughts exactly, don't know how he can go on stage without the bigman?
matthew bland You are right. Jason Leedham, you can tell that Bruce loves Jake. Jake keeps a piece of Clarence in Bruce's life.

The 8 people who dislike this. Need to grow up.
Steven Andrews biblical
Not really.
They may never grow up but they'll grow old and miss out on some good stuff.
“Springsteen forgive them for they know not what they do”, Springsteen helped me through all my troubles !! The E-street band are just special !!
😂 agreed

Then the Radio Broke!!!! Love it.
First thing I put in my old Nova was an 8 track so I can play Springteen!!!!
I miss the Big Man. I really do. I also miss Danny. I am glad that I saw them when the ESB was complete.

Time to bump this video of Bruce and Clarence which is a classic!!!
This is epic. Whether the stories are true or not, it doesn't matter. It's the spirit. Rock on, Big Man. RIP.
Steve Starr I believed the story until the radio broke. nobody could have that much bad luck on one trip...

Wow, that sure put a smile on my face! Thanks for sharing that! I REALLY enjoyed it!
When I saw him in '84 there was a variation on the story consisting of them running into a bear in the Pinelands of New Jersey. Great tune.
He often had someone in a bear suit come out on the stage in that variation that😁 cariation

Put Apron Them Still To This Day.
Next They Created A Sound From
Themselves Of Rhythem And Blues,
Sounds Of Hardships And Circumstance. Then Soul Rhythems.
To Creative Love And Dance. Called
Doo Wop Into Rock And Roll.
Along Comes Rock and Roll
Brothers Bo Diddley, Little Richard,
Isleys Bros, Ike Turner, Chuck Berry,
With Their Distinctive Style Of Playing.
Being Copied Now By White America.
Rock And Roll Was Crossing Over.
As Was The Best Of R And B. Being
Copied And Re-Produced. By A White
Company. And Blacks Had No Way To
Do Anything About It. Then As Years Go
On. In The Late 70' s Black Teens
Started Hearing Gil Scott Heron, H. Rap.Brown, Stokely Carmichael, And The Last Poets. They Called It Rapping Political Messages. Like H. Rap Brown. And Gil Scott Spread All Over. Rap Then Manifested In The New York Brooklyn
Brothers. And A Few In New Jersey. It Went To Another Level
And Started An Elevated Rap from
1979 Thought 80's.. It Still Was A Predominantly Black Culture.
Then It Started To Cross Over In The
Early 90's.
Now Since 1999 White people. basically
Try To Further Understand True Black
Music.
Like Ronnie Laws, Jr. Walker of Jr Walker And The All Stars. Jr Walker One Of The Greatest Sax Players, Gary Bartz,
John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Sonny Rollins, Clarence Clemons, Jack Onque, GATO Baiertier., Charles Parker, Miles Davis, Grover Washington,
That Culture Was African American.
Many Raicria S4 eesrds
I am privileged to watch this! Xx
He did this at one off the shows I went to at the Cotton Bowl back in 1985! It was a wonderful surprise! I actually heard this song on the piped in music at the grocery store yesterday.
Wow this is great, tks for posting. Can't wait to catch the Boss live twice this summer.
What a gem! Long live Clarence!
Danny playing his Jenco Celeste and Roy his Yamaha grand sound awesome on this.
God damn it, I cry every time.
It's like freakin' Field of Dreams!
God damn onions
sounds like when Bruce met the Big Man, he felt lonely no more. so awesome. RIP, Big Man, you're in our thoughts always . . .
Me and the boss we were younger in 1985
Me I know Bruce in stade de colombe a Paris en France
Beautiful meeting
LOVE! What a joy to see the BIG MAN in his glory!

This needs to be cleaned up and restored for its historical significance.
saw him just before he gave his stage to 'liveaid' was one of the best shows i have ever seen
My god, how can you not smile at this? These guys ... damn I love 'em!!
A Revelatory and fun recalling of personal history expressed with artistic license.
Apparently performed in '85.
This is magical. I can't remember how often i came here over the past decade since this was posted. Wish I'd been there to see this live... :)
Yup, I must have seen it 30-40 times.
The early stories told in Growin' Up are fantastic
this is one of the better stories of how they meet, there are others.
Perfektno dobro Brus. 💗💗💗💕💕💕💔💔💔💘💘💘💞💞💞💋💋💋🥰🥰🥰.
would of love to seen this live :)
Thank you BIG MAN! We will never forget.
Go for the music, stay for the pantomime. What a great show!

In 1978 it just were soo f-king good. thats when i was 20. I was Young, now i am old 20-- 57, not fun but a Life in the shadow of Bruceand The Golden Sax Clerens
The original 3 minute version of 'Growin' Up' will always seem 'thin' for anyone, after seeing this mega-version.
OMG
An absolute gem
Damn I remember this. BITUSA tour L.A. Coliseum. I saw the first leg October 1984 at the L.A. Sport Arena, a much smaller venue. This video is the last night (October 2, 1985) of a monster world tour. Bruce & ESB made a show for 80,000+ fans seem to be a small club gig. This night was magic and never duplicated with all the Springsteen shows I have seen since 1978.
RIP Big Man. Bruce and Clarence showing how skin color is just that... Wish we would all take the time and be friends and learn to make awesome music as people....
right. fear and hate come from ignorance. people should take each other on an individual basis, and then we can make progress
It doesn't get any better than this, perfect
There is NO storyteller that is his equal...in his lyrics, in the breaks bt/middle of the song...true, untrue, greatly embellished...all is masterful...so easy for him.
Back when Bruce spoke to us, when black folks weren’t just stage ornaments and it wasn’t a static greatest hits list with $250 for illegally auto signed books outside the venue.
Look how this man is still so relevant today ! Half of E Street is gone ,but , the Man keeps on going !!!!!
This is wonderful!

I love this video; thank you thomasbcool, but why, oh why couldn't we have let Rosalita play out?!!? ;-)
You should try "Talk To Me" from Tampa this past year. from the Darkness out takes. Not story telling, but so much goofiness and a lot of fun. Will definitely put a smile on the face of such a loyal, old fan as yourself. You sound like such a diehard fan! He has so many!
Thx for posting, great video!
5:06 The biggest man in the world!
the thirteen people, who dislike this have to grow up!
Its great. But I saw Bruce in concert in Binghamton in 1978 and the BIG MAN had already joined the band.
Questo si può definire un documento storico!!! La più bella esibizione di Bruce e Clarence!!😇😇😅😅🤗🎶🎶💎💎🎷🎸💋♥️♥️
I would just love to see this video in HD
Espectacular, eres muy grande Bruce
And then the radio broke !
This is just great!
They were such a great couple:)

I can only say;wow! You lucky one, what a great memory to have.
