For those wondering why the pros seem so much worse, here is why. At level 18 most players use DAP to move pieces, which is pre-loading a button press for direction as the previous piece lands. Without preloading the movement, it is very difficult at lvl 18 to get a piece to the left or right edge of the screen. But you only know whether to pre load the direction to left or right based off of the preview of the next piece. Therefore, without the preview, they can't identify where to move until after the piece is already falling. And then at that point only hyper tappers can effectively maneuver, hence joseph and Koryan doing well
This variation is really fun to watch. I think it's interesting to see how something like not having the Next Piece window could drastically impact the gameplay. Lots of respect to all the players trying this since i know i couldn't do this on level 18, though now i'm really tempted to try this out on the lower levels and see how badly i do. Awesome video!
Why does Jonas keep calling Kouser Koryan? Disrespectful AF. They don't even look alike. Koryan has grey/black hair, and Kouser has brown hair. smh -_-
I tried it... first game 0. 2) 2200 3) 2600 5) 6460 After a few minutes i got to ~10200. Afterwards i tried other Levels. Lv. 8 is easy to do. Lv. 10 is also managable. Lv. 14 is only deadly if you are agressive. I did a L-Spin at Lv. 15, but it gets hard at this point. And from 16 on it is Lv. 18 speed so nothing special there. I got one Line on Lv. 19.

I think it's mostly cuz they're not used to it. If they have enough practice in this mode, it would be a WHOLE different story. In this mode, they're not much better than an amateur cuz in many ways, it becomes a different game.
Even with practice, it's hard for your brain to process the piece and where to place it, then use DAS to bring the pieces to where they need to go, simply because there isn't enough time to. I reckon if you wanted to play this mode properly you should do hypertapping, since you have more time to place pieces that way.

Aside from helping you make tactical descisions with your current piece, if you don't know what's coming up, you have no realistic chance to place it where you want when the piece appears on high speeds. By the time you've made your descision it will already be so far down, it's too late to start charging the auto-repeat.

Since most people hear cant stay in the game that along, it would seem the best strategy is to only focus on keeping it as low as you can till the other person losses and just keep it low after that and you should win.

They definitely look for those "fit" patterns right away, to a point that this is a totally different game to them. I feel like a novice could have an ok shot at beating the pros at this, because it totally takes them off their game

Lv. 8 is easy to do.
