    Your videos are such great quality! They are always like Christmas morning to me. I'm not a fan of the Eberron setting. But great quality minis in this set so far. No melted faces, mitten hands or sloppy paint! This seems like an essential set for those doing Eberron, but I can also see many minis I want that will pass just fine in FR settings, or just fit in as home-brew monsters. Thanks Gallant Goblin! You made my morning!

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I think it's a great set too. I am just finishing up a campaign of Storm King's Thunder and one of my players wanted to play a Warforged. I think I found a clever way of incorporating it into the story. There's nothing stopping folks from dropping in these Eberron creatures into their regular ongoing campaigns. Ravnica may have been a bit more challenging in that department, but these shouldn't be too hard to adjust to Forgotten Realms. -Theo

    The 5E version of the Tsucora Quori really stood out. The 3.5E tsucora was large and the mini was a rare. Have you ever seen it?
    Also super impressed with the female Kalasthar. I finally found a great monk mini for my wife’s character!

      Funny how the new 5E book actually used the same artwork for most creatures that the 3E Eberron core book had. So, essentially, we have two companies with about a decade difference in time, creating minis based on the same art! :)

    Oooh, some cool minis here! Sul Khatesh is amazing!
    The Homonculus is probably correctly labeled. They can be created in different ways, and of different materials, by the Artificers. So this being a metal one is probably to make it more fitting thematically with the Eberron setting. :)
    That Ankheg looks amazing, btw! Surprisingly good! Got to get me some of those!

    • @commanderbbshockwave8698
      @commanderbbshockwave8698 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    After two preview videos from others where I had to slow down the video to get non-blurry pics of the minis, your preview of the set is like a breath of fresh air. :)
    And you are welcome, I like doing previews and writing down observations, glad to be able to help! :D
    So glad the Clawfoot Raptor is an Uncommon. Looks amazing, probably the best Deinonychus mini ever made (easily better than the old Clawfoot Rider). Just odd they call it a Raptor when even Icons has Raptor minis before in ToA who were the proper Small size. The harness is super detailed!
    This is only the third Cloaker pre-painted mini ever (there was the Lords of Madness Cloaker Lord and the PFB Deadly Foes Flying Ray), and already it is my favourite. So glad it is Uncommon. They always intrigued me, given how despite their truly alien mindset and horrifying appearance, they are highly intelligent and not evil, just think very differently from us humanoids. There's no mistaking this one for a cloak, though :P Love that the claws indeed resemble bone clasps of a cloak, almost as if a bone was driven through the arm.
    Seems indeed the Dolgrim is mis-sized, should be Small (even if these guys are created by the Daelkyr by merging two poor Goblins into one). I notice a lot of swords in this set are bendy, and seem to be made of more rubbery plastic. Maybe Wizkids changed the material weapons are made of, to make them less prone to break?
    I am not 100% sure but maybe the Shifter Artificer seems to have slitted cat-like eyes? Not sure. Funnily now that I look at him more, his attire really reminds me of Harry Dresden, private eye and wizard, from the Dresden Files books. :)
    Wow, really liking Sul Katesh! Great use of differently colored translucent plastic. I honestly forgot she was Large sized. Unlike in the 5E artwork, you can even actually make out her face. I don't plan on buying a case, but if I pull her as a rare from a brick, I will likely keep her.
    I think while there is no art of the Homunculus in the lorebook, it is implied they are mechanical in nature in Eberron. The Artificer class has a special skill to build an Iron Defender, Arcane Turret and also a Homunculus, I assume other than a re-use of the mold, Wizkids wanted to represent that one here.
    Yes you are right, in your video I can finally make out that the Tarkanan assassin has a dragonmark on her hand - I think that is what adds the yellow lightning effect to her sword.
    Ah so the other variant Half-Ogre has an axe! Nice! Maybe because I played so much Baldur's Gate I really missed this creature from miniatures (there was only one before, almost a decade ago). Quite a few villains in the game, including the first big boss fight you have, Tazok, are Half-Ogres. Now if we can get Ogrillons too (Orc-Ogre hybrids) someday, I can die happy. :)
    Hmm you are right on the flesh - just a guess but could be the mini is not black plastic now, but molded from this light greenish plastic, then painted?
    Wow the face is amazing on Belashyrra! I also like how they did the eyes, clever - a translucent halo around her head basically with the eyes painted. LOL too true, she sees if you have been good or bad. :D
    I remembered since yesterday that apparently, one of the Artificier specialization makes you expert with magic wands - I think that Dwarf Artificier is meant to represent this subtype, and those are wand and spell scroll holsters on his back. Still does not explain the brass knuckles, though.
    Yeah I think we can all agree that Ankheg is the standout mini of the set. Just amazing. In the ye olde days of WotC made D&D minis, would have been a Rare for sure. I can see this thing going for high prices on the aftermarket in a few years.
    The Tscuora Quori (I can never spell that right) is so... funny. The way it is wringing its tiny vestigial arms, it looks like it is nervous about its latest dice throw. :D
    Not every day we see translucent effects used on a Common mini! I am definitely getting that Kalashtar dude, looks amazing.
    I love the living spells too, they look epic. If you want more, there was a Living Flaming Sphere (giant fireball, albeit on a Medium base) back in the WotC sets.
    Is it me of the Radiant Idol's face and hairstyle... kinda reminds me of a certain Terminator turned California governator? :D
    I need to double-check but yes, I think Bone Knights are related to the Blood of Vol cult or its Emerald Claw subgroup (basically, the latter is a militant terrorist group the main cult does not acknowledge as they take things too far). They are evil clerics who raise the dead to serve them.
    The Grey Render is amazing. The skin is almost like on a pachyderm! Makes it easier to imagine what it would be like in real life... which would be quite scary. Even if sometimes these terrible beasts, for unexplained reasons, bond with a child or animal and stealthily follow and protect them. Well, as stealthily as an Ogre-sized monster can be. :P We only had one Grey Render mini before, I think maybe from the Night Below set, but Pathfinder Battles also did the Red Reaver, a winged, more gorilla-faced subspecies Paizo invented for Pathfinder.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad to be of service! I appreciate, as always, the observations and insight you provide in your comments here. Indeed, the raptor and cloaker are really impressive! Yeah, I meant to mention the size issue with the Dolgrim. I'll bring it up in the full review.
      I'll have to go back and check the swords. I didn't notice at the time. Nothing arrived broken this time though. I'll have to check that artificer's eyes too. Heh, loved the old Dresden TV show.
      Agreed about the homunculus. I think it's a case of killing two birds with one stone. It's a variant of the iron defender and can also be used as a homunculus.
      Interesting observation on the flesh. Perhaps? The sheen on it definitely seems a bit different than the other paints though.
      Ah yes, wands and scrolls. That looks right to me. Brass knuckles are always useful in a pinch.
      Oh, good point about having a translucent effect on a common. I struggle to grok the rarity of the minis as I do the unboxing. Luckily Grady adds in all the important details in post.
      Yes, that sounds right about the Bone Knights. I looked them up after. That one was a bit of a surprise so I hadn't read about it ahead of time. He just seemed to employ the same tailor as the other Karnathi undead.
      Ooh... a grey render bonded with a child... that kind of makes me want to write a one-shot...
      Thanks again, Shockwave! -Theo

      @@TheGallantGoblin You are welcome! :)
      I read the books before watching the Dresden show so I liked it less - it has very little to do with the books and is more of an episodic thing. But it was not bad and the main actor was a pretty good choice for Harry. Btw, if you are interested in RPGs, Jim Butcher the books' author made a RPG based on the "Dresdenverse", and I have to say I really love the lore and magic system of those books.
      I believe the Cyclops in MM3 was similarly sculpted out of greyish plastic and just had shading put on it - I could tell as some of mine were unpainted in places and I could see the base mold was not black.
      Things changed a lot since the WotC mini days - those days, paint jobs like these would be reserved for Rares only. Now, a Common has better paints then some old Rares, LOL!
      Yeah in old lore Grey Renders could bond with children or animals - imagine trying to hunt in the woods then Bambi turns out to have the Hulk standing by as bodyguard. :D I liked how you introduced the Render in the full review!

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We film the minis using iPhones but any smartphone from the last few generations should be fine. We’ve actually used older models as far back as iPhone 6 for some of our case reviews. The autofocus and focal distances of the smartphones work best of the equipment we have. If you don’t want to use a phone, choosing a camera with live autofocus is really important for miniatures since it’s really hard to manually pull focus as they turn. We tried a DSLR with a macro lens and it was just impossible for us to do without a TV screen to monitor what we were filming.
      For software, we edit using Adobe Premiere but we were lucky and have a CS 5.5 permanent license. I advise against hobbyists signing up for Adobe’s subscription model these days-it can definitely work for some people but don’t assume it’s your only option. I’ve heard good things about DaVinci Resolve, for example, and Final Cut Pro if you’re on a Mac. -Grady

If you’re curious about differences between preview bricks and the actual product you can check our unboxing versus case review for Volo’s and Mordenkainen’s Foes as we refilmed the minis for the case specifically to answer this question. We didn’t notice significant differences and we think the preview bricks are just the early runs as they build up inventory, not specially made. Hehe, oh no. It's not truly random. I would use the term semi-random. After all, you should be getting one of each figure in a case, so it can't be fully random. :-). -Theo

      @KINGKCS 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGallantGoblin ah so it’s a matter of getting a random box from a pre-set list of random minis, and when you get a case you get one of each pre-set box with some overlap to make sure you get everything? That makes sense for the investment you’d be putting into it

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Odd that there are so many Artificiers and Shifters in the set, yet so far only 1 Warforged (and a variant of that). I guess maybe 'cause Wizkids is aware how many old WotC Warforged minis were made back in the day, and they are not hard to come by?

      I imagine the artificer and shifter minis are intended to be subtle enough that you can use them for a variety of other purposes. • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are three known warforged minis in the set so far-the one in this video, a variant of it, and the Lord of Blades. It’s possible there are more but unlikely as I think all figures have been revealed except three.
      You need to have an established media channel of some sort. Channels that have gotten bricks include Devious Dungeons Painting (long established painting channel), Nerds on Earth (a review website), Nerd Immersion (long established youtube channel and involved in other gaming media), and Total Party Chill (live play show). It took us over a year of product reviews before anyone approached us. -Grady

      We did ask, heh. WizKids told us the way they do their early production it isn’t logistically possible for them to generate a case for previews. Sets in this line always include figures that will appeal to people who may not otherwise be interested in the overarching theme in order to increase possible sales.
