- to make up for my last video on the haunting of hill house, i decided to upload one of my favorite scenes. i think episode 6 is one of the greatest episodes of all time; it's dark, eery, suspenseful, and an emotional rollercoaster. enjoy and watch the series if you haven't yet!

“The wrong parent died!” God, that gave me chills
hits too hard. something that can't be taken back. as a parent, a son, a son-in-law...this scene always makes me cry.

This whole episode is amazing. I like that they experiment to not cut the scene but to take it as 1 long shot. Believe me this is freaking amazing cinematography

Nell interrupts this argument with the coffin, interrupts Theo and Shirl’s argument in the car with a scream. both times, everyone stops and reunites, if only for a moment. over and over, she’s putting them back together. she just wanted them all in one place, as one unit, not the fragments that they tried so hard to be.
My takeaway here is that Nell tips the coffin over to symbolize that they still have each other to fight with....here she is over here dead as a doornail and they are fighting over petty matters. I think she's telling them to be grateful for one another while they're still here
an interesting thing i noticed is how Luke, even though he is big now, wasnt and still isnt a violent or angry person. so vulnerable sadly. he likely looks up to his big brother and still sees him as larger than life person to not even try to stop him.
yeah i noticed he was never involved in any fight when it comes to all the siblings
@@arielvanessa He, like Nellie, is used to them not listening. He's sadly learned to stay on the sidelines, whether it be during a fight or in their lives in general.

GUYS IM ON TO SOMETHING:
When Luke started to go to the casket of Nell in the beginning (not shown in this scene) and he couldn’t but after a few minutes he was ready, I counted the rows of chairs. There are 7 rows just like they counted always if they were scared. Nell and Luke

Out of all the episodes this one scared me and creeped me out the most, spooky stuff going on, your loved one lying in their coffin In a huge empty room where it’s just you and them in pure silence, you thinking they’re gonna move and say something but they’re just lying there cos somehow their essence is gone , eurgh just gives me the creeps, never liked that scenario

Every time I watch this series there's something brilliant that took me forever to notice. Good freakin' catch on that one.
I also noticed something else now that I'm rewatching it again. I don't know why but Steven consoling him after Luke being unable to face the casket(mentioned above really hit me, because something occured to me.
Steven: "Take your time. We can wait. There's no rush."
It took this many years for his siblings to finally give him the time and patience to catch his breath and recover, and they don't blame him for his understandable freakout. The words that he's needed for years were finally said. I don't k ow if it was intentional, but at the same time, I can't say it wasn't lol

The best thing about this scene is how the can almost tell that they were the reason the coffin fell, and they just try to put it back together afterwards like they feel ashamed and sorry
the thing about this scene.....the hidden thing about this scene which makes it so powerful to me is that despite all their fighting and hatred and bottled up anger and contempt, despite all this shit that’s kept half the family estranged from each other...they’re still a family. they still care deeply for one another in ways that transcends even them. and they think that when the most innocent of all dies, that there’s nothing left holding them together, that they’re doomed to drift apart in anger. but that simply isn’t true. the Crains went through an indescribable trauma, but in their hearts they are a family. a tight knit family, whom just wants to see the others kept safe. they come together when there’s a threat, when their emotions are at the highest they swallow them up for the sake of togetherness. seeing hugh steve shirley and luke putting Nell’s coffin back holds so much more meaning that simple decency. it’s a symbolic representation of the dynamic of this broken family. hurt on the outside but deep care when the goings get rough. and THAT. is what makes HOHH so great.

Something I noticed. Any time anything is done to desecrate a corpse, Shirley has the strongest reaction. When the buttons were on Nell's eyes, she went into hysterics over what, to her, looked like a mockery.
I think her experience with the kittens and her seeing her mom "fixed" at her funeral gave her a deep respect and care for the dead
Well yeah, I’m a mortuary student myself and a lot of us who go into the business have had an experience with death that can cause us to be particularly sensitive over the treatment of the deceased. It’s a job that requires a lot of empathy, that’s for sure.
The father makes me so sad, he just wanted his kids to see the real person their mother was, even if that meant losing them.
The saddest thing is that their mother wasn’t even a bad person, she wasn’t a villain, she needed help and unfortunately, he arrived late for that
This whole story just has so much tragedy in it
Steve's face when they're setting the coffin straight just kills me every time. He's having such a hard time dealing with all of this. He's so used to putting his head in the sand and denying all of it, and having to physically touch the coffin made it real and nearly breaks him. He just looks like a sad and scared kid again.
The last scene when she appear next to her dead body Makes me CRY a Lot Poor Baby
I cried so much watching this scene. The Haunting of Hill House truly got to me, really bad.
the worst part was the ending when Nell spirit stood there and her young self said "you couldn't see me" :( gets me every time

Between the long takes, the storm scene in the house, Nell at the end, and archangel Kevin taking care of the whole family like the S-tier dad he is, this is probably my favorite episode of the whole series. Also really hit home on the "funeral reunion" experience for me.
This episode. As someone who experienced a similar trauma , this episode had me a 22 y/o on his couch bawling. Never have I watched a show that touched such a tragedy and felt so close to it. This whole episode from start to finish was probably my favorite yet hardest to get through and I told myself (after being warned countless times) that if I could get through this episode then I feel I could conquer pretty much anything that would come after

The concept of who the bent neck lady was.. fucked me up for weeks! I had a thought as a child what if people who are bothered by ghosts are just themselves from when they die.. it didn’t make sense so I never thought about it again.. when this episode ended I was terrified. Time is nothing to ghosts. They pass through all moments in time
Steve makes me so ANGRY in this scene! In this entire episode, really!
At first he made me angry too, but then I watched the rest of the season and now he’s one of my favourite characters. Just because a lot of people don’t understand him, and if you watch the 9th and 10th episode you will understand what i mean!!! He has been through so much more than what people think!! And at first he thinks it’s all Mentall illness, so he wants to get away from it as far as possible, but then the last episode, he starts to realise that it’s not mentall illness, it ACTUALLY is the house. It’s a lot to take in, and to think about! But that’s what makes him so special (to me) Xx

I mean before the book; he was rather nothing at all; his wife even paid the bills to support him, yet his judgement on the rest is extremely harsh. Reminds me of my big brother that does the same.

Uhm I am Pretty Sure the mom tried to poison you guys and cause nelly to die.
Except Steve didn't know any of that; none of them did. She only tried to poison Nell and Luke and they were too young to realize what was happening and to remember the incident in great detail. Hugh hid the majority of what happened from them, like he said, "to protect their memories of their poor mother".
As far as Steve saw, his dad woke them up in the middle of the night and left his mother alone during a mental breakdown and she killed herself.

You're right - for me, this always felt like the biggest moment of the entire series.
This was also the best episode in the series.
jesus that episode 6 was intense! reminds me of the red wedding except instead of relying on shock, this episode played on pretty much EVERY emotion. And the speed with which they did it borderline confused me, but in a good way, like the sudden twists and turns of a roller coaster. i could watch this episode dozens of times.

The creator did a very good job here that I'm even surprised how he pulled off another series that would have the same impact on me as hill house did. Hands down some of the best concepts i have ever seen in series.
@Ramon Florencio Perez bly manor is the worst, i read a lot of hatred in the reviews for that one and went with my bars touching the ground, and it still managed to disappoint me. though the first and the second episode was pretty good, and there was this other episode where they tell a story from a random ghost's perspective, which stood out to me the most(second last episode i think)
You know, yesterday I finished The Haunting of Bly Manor and I really liked it but this one is still my favorite. Hill House has this amazing perfectly filmed chapter that just gaves me chill everytime I watch it and boy I do I love this story
When Nell revealed that all of them already got into the red room without realizing it. The red room was actually their mom's reading room, Luke's tree house, Steve's game room, Theo's dance studio, Shirley's family room and Theo's toy room. It was mind blowing

One of my favorite sense from this was when all the kids were in the red room and they first saw nell and she was repeating herself like a broken record and then she found some clarity and went into her big speach
This whole episode is my favorite and this scene made me more emotional than the whole show because how much I relate to Nell feeling like nobody can see her. Because I’m autistic and my whole life nobody has understood me and saw me as a nuisance instead of understanding my struggles and helping me, and I have to “mask” all my autistic traits to not freak anyone out or be a burden to anyone, to the point where the the issues get so bad that I try to take my life in hopes of everyone seeing me.

The change from one-take shots to regular film-style editing was so jarring and worked in such an emotional way for this ending.

Agreed. This intense follow up to the emotional episode 5 put this show in my Netflix top 10. Amazing show. And this was my fav episode.
I'm gonna say this over and over again, this is the very FIRST horror series or i'd say horror genre that i've ever cried to. It's just too good, the characters, the storyline, the emotions, it's just beyond perfect & has been a roller-coaster ride filled with secrets & truths kept within!
Their fighting is literally making her “turn over in her grave”
Nelly’s in the coffin like “will you idiots stop yelling I’m trying to lay down. Don’t make me come out this coffin.” Coffin falls. “Oh great, your lucky I can’t get out of this coffin.”
This was Nell's way of saying "oh heeell noo Steve u dont get to say that to him" and it never fails to move me.
I really love this series especially how everything unfolded at the end.
Nelly has always been trying to protect her family.
OUTSTANDING acting during this entire episode. And OUTSTANDING job by the crew to pull something of the sort.
This episode is an absolute masterpiece!! I came back to this series for the second time just because I wanted to watch this episode again.
Nell is truly a selfless person. She takes deep pride in family and cares about everybody.

My favorite scene was also in the episode but it happens near the end of the episode when little Nell is crying saying "Nobody could see me" and then we see Nell's ghost standing in front of her coffin and she just looks so sad. It just really hit home hard
I just noticed Oliver's slight nod at the beginning. He, as Luke, doesn't want to side against Steve, but he can't lie about the House
we all expected this series to scare the crap out of us but it just made us cry and reflect on our lives
That's what good horror does: it's never as one dimensional as a simple jumpscare

A masterpiece of a show
To think most of this scene was shot all on a single long take. No cuts, no editing. The gathering of these amazing actors and actresses along with Flanagan definitely gave us a masterpiece that will live on for years to come.
Something I never fully noticed until rewatching it yesterday: this whole episode the camera only cuts a handful of times and only when Nell's casket falls over and the tension is finally broken the camera starts to cut regularly again
Can anyone tell me where the part is where they’re talking in the funeral home and Nell’s ghost is stood there watching them in the background?

My absolute favorite episode. I dont care about the final episode and hlw it portrayed the house. It needs to he destroyed i think if we get a season 2 it should be a prequel of sorts.
If we get a season 3 it should be about steven going back to write another book. And by the end of that season he realises that place needs to be demolished by any means neccessary just like hugh did before the dudleys intervened
