It's a little strange you left out the original Rogue in the timeline, as it had a lot of significance for the design brief of Diablo and thus ARPG's moving forward. That said, interesting video essay on this branch.
The other side of the family tree, the Blobbers, spawned their own fascinating offspring. Hell the entire immersive sim genre owes its heart and soul to Ultima Underworld in a lot of ways.
As for my favourite dungeon to crawl:
The Shattered Hand and Vale of Shadows are pretty iconic D&D dungeon crawls from the very first Icewind Dale. They're very keen on atmospheric storytelling. Both are truly fascinating in terms of their implications at the end, especially if you're familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting.

2.5 minutes into this video and I'm appreciating the info, delivery, and small edited in jokes. This has all the trappings and quality of a much larger channel. I believe this will hit the algorithm soon and gain a lot more subs with good content like this. Easy sub.

Might & Magic, Wizardry, Eye of the Beholder, Ultima, Lands of Lore and Amberstar were all so important for the genre. Also theres much more to modern indie dungeon crawlers than roguelikes. Legends of Amberland II came out about a month ago and is an homage to Wizardry and Might & Magic. Lunacid came out a few months ago and is an homage to Kingsfield.

You passed over my childhood favorite, Castle Adventure (1984). The OG DC for me!

@@ronefero6142 It is very old Apple IIe graphics, but at 9 back in 1984, it was great!

How can you have a History of Dungeon Crawlers video without mention of the grandaddy of them all: Dungeon Master? Also, the Eye of the Beholder series, Lands of Lore, Wizardy series, and Legend of Grimrock. Play those games and get really schooled in dungeon crawl goodness!

I liked the video, but talking about Bards Tale without mentioning Wizardry is a massive oversight.

Perhaps I will get it's own mention in a video some day
