The Death Of Curse Llc: How Twitch Destroyed A Gaming Empire
In this video, we will explore the life of Curse LLC a big name that you may not know. We will cover their beginnings, their rise, and eventually their fall from the top of the gaming world. I remember playing Gauntlet Legends in the arcades when I was a kid. I usually play as either the Red Warrior or the Blue Valkyrie while my sister plays as either the Green Archer or Yellow Wizard. I only played Gauntlet Dark Legacy one time in college with some friends of mine on their GameCube. I do hope that these games get a remake sometime in the future.

    Been going through it with a buddy on Gamecube. We ran into a lot of bugs it looks like ps2 doesn't have. Inventory on the d-pad... works? We can't make left or right of why we don't always get items we acquired, or my friend can't seem to get rid of the Mikey powerup ever. Seems like there is an item cap on how many you have. D pad doesn't let you see items, you hear it scroll, but often won't show the name unless you hit up to activate. Sound mixing is also comical. We have the SFX down to like 1 notch, because if water shows up, it's at like 1000% compared to everything else. We also laughed at some stages that just have coffins screaming bloody murder in the first world anytime you're near them. We are playing as Red/Blue Archer & Falconess (Me), and Red Minotaur & Anubis (him). We swap jobs, or mostly play the alts on our respective single player time. It's been a great time overall though. We've probably logged easily 30 hours, if not 40, and are on the snow world. Farming the bosses is overpowered for money collecting, and by extension farming either hp or stats. The 999 stat cap did make me a little sad as every character does become very much the same, but there are still unique traits. Thanks for the watch.

    You must've played this game on PCSX2, which is why there are so many collision bugs in your footage. Well, you ought to know that these bugs aren't a problem anymore. With one of the recent nightly builds of this emulator, I played thru all of the races and never found myself flying off the bike randomly or smashing into invisible walls that have no business being there. This game is actually VERY solid. It's just that PCSX2 was still undercooked for this game at the time of this video. It's absolutely worth checking out now on PC. I had a blast playing it the other night in 1440p with the 16:9 aspect ratio patch. It was like playing a remaster that doesn't (and probably won't ever) exist. Everyone needs to check it out.

  • @ZolidarPwns

    Despite having basically no story and being graphically VERY dated; this game is still an absolute Masterpiece. I remember spending hours, days, and weeks on end doing things in this game; from trying to speedrun it back when I was so young I didn't even know that was a thing, to trying to 100% things, to doing no items/minimum level up runs through Garm. The fact they haven't remastered this is a tragedy. I understand there is some copyright problems with Midway not being a thing anymore and Gauntlet trying to "modernize" but THIS is in my opinion, still the best one in the franchise. Protip: You can literally speedrun to level 99 by killing the Spider-queen over and over, for whatever reason she gives a huge amount and same amount of XP regardless of your level. You will always leave with 2-3 levels (and a bunch of gold for that matter). Very good alternative to actual cheats like 10000k.

      I can confirm, it's just a bug with older versions of PCSX2. Use one of the most recent nightly builds. I've tested almost every track. Never once did I randomly fly off the handle bars. Freekstyle is super solid on this emulator now. Included is a 16:9 aspect ratio patch; something that Dolphin doesn't have currently. Dolphin's widescreen hack is trash for this game.

Legends of Amberland II came out about a month ago and is an homage to Wizardry and Might & Magic. Lunacid came out a few months ago and is an homage to Kingsfield.

    I would say that this is one of the best ever couch co-op games. XP and money are not shared so it's a fun contest to see who gets more of each and also who is the first to save at the end of each level. A few levels also have switch puzzles that require at least 2 people to use, there are alternate routes but it is a nice touch all the same. Also love the laugh/voiceline from Skorn at the end of a level if you missed either a Runestone or Boss weapon. Character also gets a new title and visual update every 10 levels. One thing to note is that the PS2 version does not have an inventory system like the Gamecube version. You cannot turn off/save items, they are used when you pick them up so the game is harder to get through as you don't have a stash of really powerful items to get through the boss fights or randomly harder parts of some levels. I would really love either a remaster/remake or at least an official PC port of this game as it's great fun.

    It is entirely just my headcannon, but I always felt like this game had a very Halloween-y them/vibe to it. Like fantasy thriller aesthetic. While the realms are all completely different from each oher in most ways, many of them have some kind of "spooky" deal going on. Of course this might be bias because the first levels are in the Forsaken Province. Also aesthetically in recent years whenever I revisit this game I like to think of it's artstyle as being like a stageplay or older fantasy movie. Like a lot of it is due to the time period and available technology, but the way the backgrounds look like paintings and many objects like bushes are 2d just has a very "these are props on a stage" feeling to it.

    I like your review. My only place I disagree is that I don’t think the story, while minimal, is such a low score. Ranking it against today, sure the story is very small, practically 2 minutes of monologue and that’s it. But the amount of story that can be told through the settings is actually quite large. Coming to know and find the evil at the core of each realm is it’s own story without any dialogue. Also for a game like gauntlet, story isnt really required for it to be a great experience. Gauntlet is a dungeon crawler, it’s not pretending to be anything else. Dungeon crawlers are about the action and getting strong. I feel like too much story in a game like this could actually take away from the game’s over all score. Minimal is better than over done

    • @ronefero6142
      @ronefero6142 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the time you took for a response, perhaps a Dark souls style would be a happy medium then, apply more story but make the players search it out/ research the topic this way casual players aren't bombarded with exposition and Lore addicts get their fix!

    • @alexandertate2762
      @alexandertate2762 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ronefero6142 yeah I think that would be really cool. Like you could talk to Sumner at the tower for more info for each world as you traverse through them. And maybe there could be specially marked “lore scrolls” in levels that explain how each realm came to be how we witness them in gameplay and the lore of the characters from each realm. I just really like for example how the first realm goes. You start at the poison fields, where the living are likely wiped out and turned into the undead. Then you make it to a literal ghost town, that must have been wiped out and then corrupted. Eventually you reach an overly stocked cemetery, likely that became weaponize by evil against the living. At the back of a cemetery is a massive mausoleum that you can only assume houses the core of this evil. And the deepest part of the crumbling hall of death, is the crypt of a powerful lich. You find a warning says that you should avoid facing the Lich until you have the power of the good book on your side. Why the good book is on an air ship in a completely different realm idk. Maybe the air ships sent bombers will poison gas to plague the first realm, allowing the lich plenty of soldier’s to his cause. I wish there was more explanation to the interconnected need of them realms. Anyway, when you enter the Lich’s Crypt, you’ve reach a point of no return and for a new player it can be a really tough fight. Defeating the lich and the sumner projects himself into the realm to congratulate you and say that you have saved the realm from the Lich’s evil. Supposedly, the whole first realm is now saved, except for any stragglers. Very little actual story telling, but you feel like it’s an adventure!

    "Why are these female game characters being depicted in a non-realistic style, clearly no one at Naughty Dog had ever seen a women before." paraphrased your opinion from the vid My guy, no one cares that there's "no room for a uterus" on their character models, it's because they're heavily stylized cartoon characters. Why should they follow "realistic" anatomy rules when the art-style isn't realistic to begin with, and when plenty of the other characters don't? Samos's legs don't have enough room for the muscle required to hold up his body, and he's neck-less and shaped like a bowling ball. The Red Sage has matchsticks for ankles. Half the characters have anime bug-eye faces. The characters don't look realistic because the art-style doesn't have realism in mind. Also, why are you mainly bothered by the female characters being "unrealistic" and not the male ones? "We need representation of people of different ethnicities" Real life ethnicities don't exist in Jak's world, so how would that even work? The characters aren't "white", they are fantastical interpretation of humans, and many of them don't even have human skin colors or hair designs. Jak's world is one of all humanity living in more or less centralized pockets; different ethnicities and the concept of phenotypes being associated with particular ethnicities wouldn't even arise in this world. Even if they did, I'm not convinced it would make sense for the first game to have a variety of differenty ethnicities, because it's set on what appears to be an isolated landmass in the distant past of the fictional setting's overall timeline.

    After watching your video, I actually never understood why the game developers actually thought about updating the game with more lore so we can learn more about the characters we play as. Never the matter though, Gauntlet Dark Legacy will still one of the greatest games ever made. If there could be one more Gauntlet game, it should probably have a better written story and the option of allowing players to choose to play online or local multiplayer. Some of you may disagree with this, but even y'all should know that game developers now don't make good stories or gameplays a lot anymore. There's no such thing as a perfect game, but there will always be good memories we hold for playing the games we played. Please, think about this a little more before you say anything.

    If I may gush about this game for a moment… It’s honestly one of my favorite games on PS2. Sure, the graphics and animation look more PS1-era, but the gameplay is fun as hell, especially with multiple players. It also has, IMO, one of the most underrated game soundtracks ever. A number of the tracks are very catchy (among my personal favorites are the Graveyard and Mausoleum), and if you listen closely, it actually incorporates about 3 different recurring motifs in different styles based on the level theme. One motif is the original NES Gauntlet title theme, which is heard in a slow tempo as Sumner’s Tower’s music, and a faster tempo for one of the final boss fights. The music is actually very cleverly done if you take the time to listen to it.

    Bethesda dis not hire Perlman as narrator - he was already hired sińce Fallout 1 as voice actor

      He was still brought back in to narrate again when his career was bigger than ever, Perlman is a staple to the fallout franchise being cast I believe in every single game.

    Oblivion had jank leveling system, and auto leveling monsters. It is one of the least remembered elder scrolls games when people talk about elder scrolls games.

      Oblivions leveling system was similar to the TTRPGs of the time. That's odd though that you think it's the least remembered in your circle cause I'm mine it is considered one of the best ones! Obviously I am biased cause I played that one the most haha
