As Medicare payments to doctors go down, so does the private insurance payments to doctors. Insurance companies look at the schedule that Medicare is paying and that is what they use to base their negotiations with doctors and hospitals and how much they will pay for a certain procedure. This is why so many doctors and rural health clinics are shutting their doors.

She’s gone now, but when did we become so dependent on insurance and Medicare and government handouts??? I’m insurance poor and I feel like I’m throwing that money away….
I also recall that time of no insurance. My parents did take out life insurance on us kids when we were born; enough to bury us because they knew life is uncertain. When dad was almost killed in an auto accident relatives and friends provided the money to keep our household going for weeks. I recall seeing them slip Ellen (mom) money discreetly.

This is absolutely true. If someone says, they cannot deny service for Medicare / Medicaid people … they get federal funding. But doctors can CAP the number of patients of who they accept. I have been on Medicare for 20 years. The fees that people see is NOT what doctors actually get reimbursed. It is a minuscule fraction of that initial amount.
