السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُه You mentioned not to let the nest stand before frying, how do you do it ? Stretch, fry then stop and Stretch another then fry ?
Wslm. After you make the last 15cm stretch, you need to add it to the oil right away and fry. I lift the nest out of the oil mixture, complete the 2 x 8 turns and then stretch 15cm. This process takes less than a minute or so. Frying does not take time either. So once i turn my suterfeni while deep fryinf, i begin stretching the next one. Hope this makes sense. 😊

Ooh! Great detailed video. My mum's sister is making it in Zimbabwe tomorrow in prep for Eid. She's been doing it for years and it's an art form for sure.

This is absolutely amazing , never have I seen or even heard off this , would love to try it , eat it especially , lol . I'm from Trinidad and Tobago . I could see it only bursting apart when I try lol . Love your art .
I am from SA, now living in Melbourne & Diwali is still a big celebration in our home! We love making all the mithai from scratch like we’ve been taught back home but I just could not get to making my favourite Suterfenni ! Every time I come home to SA, I have to buy a whole suterfenni to eat by myself🤗 I Cannot thank you enough for posting this informative video. It came out just perfectly beautiful!!! The ONLY question I have is : how do I make the Suterfenni to be soft & so white like the ones in Durban sweetmeat shops instead of the crispy one produced with your recipe ? Again, thank you for sharing this video especially, God bless you🙏🏼
Hi Roshini. To keep the suterfeni white, avoid frying it for too long. Once the strands crisp up, remove them out the oil immediately. Also completely dunk them in the thin syrup and drain. It takes 2 days initially to soften up. You can also add a damp kitchen paper into the container you are storing the suterfeni or cover with a clean damp cloth. This wil soften it up more. Suterfeni comes out crispy always, but the syrup softens it up. Hope this helps.
Love this one of my fav but need a mince grinder attachment n above all patience. Get it in Bhindi Bazaar, Mumbai year round n miss it so😢 only when some brings to sell fr Pakistan or India 😢
😍..love it... How long does it take to make from start to finish.. How do you store ? How long will it stay for? Thanks/ jazakallah for sharing.. Love ❤️ all your recipes 😍
Is crisco going to work it’s vegetable shortening in a solid block pls let me know and I want to follow your instructions for a softer version as we are used to backhome ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing. The draining process, do we need to drain on paper as well or is it fine to drain as you have shown and immediately pour over the syrup.
If you notice that there is a little oil left behind on the suterfeni, you can drain it further on a kitchen paper for 30min more. I also like to stack newspapers under the kitchen paper to suck up more of that oil. Mine drained out well so i did not have to drain further on paper. You can also use the flour and kitchen paper method. Works wonders.

I attempted to make it today. Definently a skill and need to practice. While stretching I can see the strands but when I fried it didnt separate. Also came out brown and not white 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@naviesoobramoney4915 You can try. Just make sure you get a stretchy dough. Im worried the dough will just slam from one end to the other as it is a stiff dough to begin with.

Thank you for your recipe. My issue was strands not separating and nest not high enough.
What is your advice please
Mych appreciated
Hi there. Please confirm with me if you could see the separate strands before frying?
Please give the link to your mincer
Hi thanks for sharing this. Is the end product soft or crunchy❤
It is crunchy. However it goes softer when the syrup is added.
@@TheKitchenGirlDiary so it won’t soften right away it seems takes a day or 2 ! Correct me if am wrong ❤️
@@bulbul7580 Thats correct.
Don't have a machine mincer to put the dough through to mince so can I try without mincing the dough
You can knead it until stretchy or place in a food processor.😊

Crisco should work if its in a butter like form.
@@TheKitchenGirlDiary basically any vegetable shortening correct ! Thanks for getting back ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing. The draining process, do we need to drain on paper as well or is it fine to drain as you have shown and immediately pour over the syrup.
I saw on her Instagram page, the banana puri process, she let the banana puri drain into flour. The flour can later be used for roti.
@@refia786 this is Sutherfini. How should I drain it
@@shireencassimjee1072 I think on paper towels over a few days before drizzling with syrup

If i dont have mincer what can i do
My favourite Cake. But after seeing the deep frying it might not be my favourite anymore 😢
Slms .. I would like to know how do u keep the ends together I tried but all loosened up
Wslm. When do the ends open up? While stretching?
Yes when stretching just after making like a Swiss roll
@@nabilasaber Next time pinch the edges on both ends firmly to avoid it from separating into longer and shorter sections. In the end break of the uneven ends before wrapping around the finger.
I attempted to make it today. Definently a skill and need to practice. While stretching I can see the strands but when I fried it didnt separate. Also came out brown and not white 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Practice definitely makes perfection. The reason to this was that your oil was too hot. Fry on a lower heat on your next attempt.
Hi don't have a mince so can I make it without
If you don't have a mincer, You will have to knead the dough for a good 25 minutes until its smooth, pliable and stretchy.
Can I use the Kenwood to knead instead of mincer?
@@naviesoobramoney4915 You can try. Just make sure you get a stretchy dough. Im worried the dough will just slam from one end to the other as it is a stiff dough to begin with.

Should sutafeni taste soft or crunchy once soaked in sugar ?
It should go somehow soft but not soggy.
Can rice flour be used instead of cornflour?
Im afraid not.
hi can this be frozen once fried
Yes it can be frozen after frying and draining. Add syrup a day before you would like to serve it.
This is atta or maida?
My strands did not separate when frying
Hi. Im sorry it didn't work out this time. Please confirm if you could see the separate stands before frying?
