  • A big thank you to Potti314 for donating this lock to me, in this video I show you how to decode these locks really easily. Be sure to let me know if you need help using this method.
    Please check out Potti314's channel here, I learned most of my decoding skills from him: / potti314

    Best tutorial on this lock yet! I'm very excited, was having trouble with it. The idea of spinning all wheels at first until they lock up was the key. Thank you! EDIT: I used this technique on the 145/40 and it works.

      I tired to do it but I knew the code locked and the one that had to be change was soo lose even tho it was the last combination

    You did very well decoding and explaining the procedure. The ABUS is the one with the clearest feedback and provides a lot of fun. When you decode the others, you have to differentiate the feedback more carefully: loose (=1) can mean, not binding (=1a) or true gate (=1b) and tight (=2) can mean false gate (=2a) or friction between the inner wheels (=2b). This tricky differentiation I found less relevant on the ABUS. When releasing the shackle for turning a wheel make sure you push it in all the way. Therewith you limit then probability for other wheels turned accidentally.
    The combination code was encoded so that you don't see it if you open the note out of curiosity.
    Looking forward to the other locks - I truly enjoyed this video my friend - thank you :-)

      Thanks a lot buddy for the haul, You're right about decoding in general, it is a confusing thing, especially to explain but you will be pleased to know that you must have done a good job of it since I learned all my decoding from you!
      I loved the way you enclosed the code and like I said, I did open all the locks before taking a look ;-) I might even use this method of hiding a combination myself.
      I'm not forgetting that I still have to send you a parcel in return (I know you weren't expecting anything but I want to give you something back anyway) I hope to get that ready soon.

      Cheers WC2 (sounds a bit like an insult writing it that way doesn't it? Water closet 2 ;-p ) You must give decoding a bash, it's great fun and quite inexpensive too as all you need are the locks, usually you can decode without any tools.

    The 145 can be decoded the same way as the 165.

  • @misterioes89
    @misterioes89 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't work at all for me :( my lock, despite being the same, behaves very differently. I pull and no numbers are able to move. Also, when I'm on an odd number, I can always move back or forth to an even one no matter how hard I pull. Don't get it. Maybe because it's old or something. Does greasing it help?

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      misterioes89 Unusual issue, if the lock is old or weathered I could recommend a silicone lubricant, probably not grease though. Do let me know if you’re stuck, my email address is in the description of the video.

  • @sotonlock7894
    @sotonlock7894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm really into decoding at the moment, did you ever open the other two locks on camera? I've looked through your videos and could find either locks.

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I have decoded the other locks but never made videos on them as you know. The abus 145 is just the same as this one but with an aluminium body, and I believe I must have traded it with someone at some point. I do still have the burg wachter, it’s a lot trickier to decode but I may still do a video on it at some point. Have you been practicing decoding yourself lately? And if so what locks have you tried so far?

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for my delayed reply, I've only just seen this message. Yes I've been decoding lots, a couple on my channel now. Been trying various combi’s, most difficult so far is a four digit Lockwood Assa Abloy.

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are there any combi's that you would recommend as being a difficult lock to decode?

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sotonlock7894 I’ve found the Abus ones to be probably amongst the trickiest, but they all tend to be pretty similar. I had a great deal of difficulty with a burg wachter branded one, but mainly due to the friction in the dials. Once you can do a handful of them you’ve pretty much mastered them all.

    • @sotonlock7894
      @sotonlock7894 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HobbyPicker Thanks for your reply. I agree once you have played with a few, then they all become simular, I'd never use one to lock anything of any value.

    How I could find the code if shackel is in unlock position? I can't close it.
    Thanks

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Follow the same steps as shown, but rather than pulling the shackle open, line it up with the hole where it needs to go, and apply a continuous downward pressure while you wiggle the dials. I hope this helps!

    I have a 4 combination Master lock which is locked open, have forgotten numbers, can you assist, wheels all spin round easily.

    • @HobbyPicker
      @HobbyPicker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mick19421 It’s a common problem, basically all you have to do is use the technique in the video, but rather than pulling out on the shackle, line the shackle up with the hole it’s meant to go into and hold downwards pressure on the top of the shackle. I may make a video on this in the future since it’s such a common problem.
