(picking 283) Decoding a Burg Wächter 3 wheel combination padlock - how to defeat false gates

This video shows methods to reliably decode a Burg Wächter 3 wheel combination padlock. With the usual pull picking technique easily all wheels can be brought to a gate (false or true). But now we have to distinguish between a false and a true gate. The one that is identified to be in a false gate needs to be turned by two digits. Then the test of all three wheels start again. Here are the methods to identify false gates:
Method 1: Apply medium to heavy tension on the shackle. Now turn all wheels left and right around the current number. Take the one that gives the most resistance (has the least play).
Method 2: It one or more show very little play, release tension and while increasing tension again, jiggle one wheel. Repeat that for the other questionable wheel. Take that wheel that shows the most increase of resistance.
Method 3: If on a try one wheel changed from a lot of play to almost no play, then take that wheel.
The lock behaves very similar to the Abus 165/40 that I decoded here: • (picking 115) ABUS 165...

Thx, I occasionally watch lock picking videos, but never tried it myself.
I just found this lock I had forgotten about. I don't even remember why we bought it, but it's basically new so I'm really happy I was able to open it pretty quickly with the help of your video.

I like to watch your combination tutorials :). I have opened this lock very often in the dark in bed just before sleeping 😎, was my first combination padlock :). I think the Abus is really alot harder, but well, I'm an Abus fanboy haha ;D.

I'd say it's about the same compared to the abus 165/40. But you need to try the aluminum version (145/40), this is a tough lock - www.abus.com/us/Commercial-Security/Padlocks/Aluminum/145/(variant)/48811 And yes I do the same sometimes - decoding before falling asleep :-)

I got the exact same lock here and was happy to find your video.
I tried your method out and either I'm too stupid or too clumsy... The middle wheel moves a little when applying tension, the bottom wheel hardly at all and even gets stuck completely and the top one is always loose. There's no movement in the shackle at all and always the same clicking noises, no matter what I do. It stays in this state for three or four attempts now. I don't know what to think about that...
It looks quite easy though when you do it, I'm really wondering if I'm not capable of doing this or maybe the lock has a defect...

I just realized that the actual request was for a Burgwächter Combi Lock 88 Fun. I'm not sure if my lock (model 90/30) behaves in the same way as the other. But I believe that if the "88 Fun" has false gates it probably works in the same way. If it has no false gates then it's even easier.
