Well, overal I think the first game's OST is still the best one. The 2nd one has some really nice bangers and the best ones may even edge out the best of XC1 for me, but there's also a lot of stuff in it I don't care much for. As for XC3... kinda hard to say. I haven't really taken the time to listen to its songs all that much outside of the game, but in the game itself they don't feel quite as memorable as the ones from the first 2 games.

Hi, I don't know who you are but Xenoblade is a 10/10 franchise. The music works perfectly with the scenes its used it for even further emotional hits. Also, Glad to see someone be hit by the title theme same way I was when I first turned the game on. The music hit hard and the game itself didn't let go. The stories in the games are unironically amazing, peak fiction. The characters are deep and even the side content is better than many other games.

This is all this song inspires me without even starting the game. To me this is even one of the best ost in the entire series artistically speaking.

the only reason the definitive edition has mixed reviews is because people are nostalgic for the original. DE uses all live recordings of instrumentalists and vocalists and as someone who loves both soundtracks, DE's is better as a musician because the performance quality adds even more to the amazing music. Nothing wrong with the original, but while I think it's one of the best uses of MIDI I've heard, it just doesn't match the juice of the studio recordings, the studio recordings are perfect quality with concert level energy, it's amazing. and I know you said the vocals in Engage the Enemy were high, but what if I told you the live performance strings and voices swap octaves so the vocals have the top notes. it is insane and never fails to make me cry

Actually 4:11, I think most people regard the Definitive Edition ost to be on par with the original. For some important tracks like Engage the Enemy, Mechanical Rhythm & Zanza the Divine, some would even say it's an improvement. Definitive Edition also feature some tracks that are not changed, which is fine because the original are more than servicable.
It'd be cool if you can check those out too.

This soundtrack is a masterpiece and the game is a lot of fun as someone who doesn't play a lot of jrpgs.

  • @RaeSig
    @RaeSig ปีที่แล้ว +5

the Definitive version of "Engage The Enemy" has a slightly different vibe but I definitely recommend checking it out, maybe even in your spare time, because wow the vocals go nuts. More uneasy and distressing than the original maybe? Mechanical Rhythm's Definitive version stands out to me too, it feels a lot more heavy metal.
Anyway this was really fun to watch! Xbc1 is one of my favourite OSTs of all time, and 2 and 3's OSTs are very very worthy successors. I'd definitely like to see more Xenoblade reactions from you!

I'm still surprised when I hear people have mixed opinions on the music from the Definitive Edition because IMO having the full orchestra makes the majority of the songs vastly better. It takes a lot of mid songs and makes them absolutely beautiful.

I would reccomend listening to the definitive edition's soundtrack for engage the enemy, time to fight, gaur plain, you will know our names, and mechanical rythym as well, they remade (i believe) every soundtrack besides the main title. They all are quite different, and just as good as the original mix

I had mostly forgotten Time to Fight because even though it goes plenty hard, every other battle theme in Xenoblade goes ABSOLUTELY HAM. But it was really great to hear it pop back up in Future Redeemed
Also You Will Know Our Names is less associated with a 21 foot tall cow and moreso known for a 40 foot tall MONKE that insta-kills you when just a moment ago you were having fun jamming to Gaur Plain

Literally the entire Xenoblade soundtrack is killer, and the remake soundtrack is almost entirely improvements to the original. I highly encourage checking it out along with the other 3 Xenoblade games. This franchise means more to me than any other from any media outlet, and the music only matches the quality of everything else. If not for a video, listen to it in your own time because it's a treat. Have a good day and enjoy!

The '21 foot tall cow' is probably referring to a lvl 80+ boss that's just roaming around the first big open area in the game. You'il usually run into it accidentally, and You Will Know Our Names is the theme that plays when that happens.

  • @Gebirges

Oh and yes, the remaster soundtrack is controversial to some but that's just because of like 1-2 pieces.
      It's equally as great imho.
If you got a Switch the remaster is worth playing over the original because it's 1:1 the same game but with great QoL changes and updated graphics that look incredible.

The Main Theme / Title Theme is actually my MOST LOVED Video Game Music that I ever heard in the entirety of my life.
It's actually from Yoko Shimomura which just gifted this game a few soundtracks and is more widely known for Kingdom Hearts music.
But THIS... this is just... I don't know.
The whole build up and climax is just a freakin THEATRE! >_< *This is freakin' opera territory!*
And can hold up to the likes of Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. (For me at least)
This is no longer just "video game music" this is classical music of the modern era.
The reference for "you will know our names" is that the 21 foot big cow ...well has a special name! :D
That's why "you will know our names".

There certainly are mixed opinions about the Definitive Edition soundtrack, but honestly? Most of them are on par, if not better. There are *some* which came out weaker than the originals, but in my opinion they're all still bangers.
In particular, two upgrades I can name off the top of my head are Engage the Enemy, and the other is Mechonis Field which from serene to otherworldly and it's beautiful.
Also, most songs do loop since they're either field themes or battle themes, but if you want to hear an entire loop, my advice is to not skip the song until you've reached the half-way point on the timer. Sometimes with Xenoblade OSTs, a song sounds like it's looping early, but in reality it dives even deeper than you thought it would, so that Gaur Plains track for example actually had a little more to offer before it *actually* was about to loop.
Anyway, glad to see a brand new person introduced to the wonder of Xenoblade! A highly reccomended series, I hope you do a part 1 and 2 for the first game (bonus for the Definitive Edition?) and after that, absolutely reccomend you list to the sequel OSTs, including their expansion games (Future Connected, Torna: The Golden Country, and Future Redeemed).

Nah, the remastered music is majority praised. Much better in many ways. Wish you’d have reacted to it. The old tracks hurt my ears with how shrill the guitars were. And they add more personality & diversity into the instruments & vocals. Basically, clearer vocals, clearer, more genuine orchestral recordings & more emphasis on all of the instruments than just the guitar overshadowing every other instrument. Though some music doesn’t have much guitar or none at all in it, & I’ll give fans of the old OST that some of those tracks like “Time to Fight!” May be better in the OG.
