People have to realize that a mountain lion would go after anything that it sees or gets its paws and claws on. It really doesn't matter what the size is. Whether it is big or small.
People don't realize that the most successful predator is a wild cat smaller than most domestic house cats. Size doesnt matter. Weasles for example will take down animals 2,3,4 times its size.
A lot of people also don’t realize that mountain lions are nocturnal meaning they hunt AT NIGHT. People think because it’s dark out everything is asleep. 🤦🏻♂️
I see a lot of people saying they shouldn’t leave the dog outside, but that’s where dogs are the happiest and where they can do the job they believe in their whole existence is what they do which is protect the perimeter of your home. Imagine if you had kids outside and the Lion went for them. That dog’s barking may be the only alert protecting them. Have a place your dog can retreat for safety or get more dogs to act as a pack. They are naturally pack animals that are meant to live outside. Just have them a warm secure place where they can go and make sure they are safe.
