The Banished Brutes truly are the Elder Scrolls Orcs of Space. Seeking a good death before they go, never sacrificing their ideals, even when the way forward is blurry or unknown to them. And keeping respect for both kin and foe. What an amazing adversary we got to witness.
Chak 'Lok and Bassus may have been the toughest bosses in the game, but Escharum was by far the most honorable boss in the game. It was definitely between him and me. The three of you have my respect. You three gave me a good fight.
Escharum is by far the most interesting antagonist (besides Atriox ofc) we've had since Tartarus, Ripa 'Moramee, H2 Prophet of Truth and the Gravemind. He was a Jiralhanae who probably witnessed his people nuke themselves back to the stone age and become indoctrinated into the Covenant when they were found. He also probably had to train many of his own kind to fight for the Covenant, the theocratic galactic hegemony which promised salvation for his kind, but were instead used by false idols and prophets, and watch these young warriors die for beliefs not their own. Watched his warriors die for a lie. Escharum was probably outcasted by his fellow Jiralhanae, for trying to speak out against the Covenant. He might've felt truly alone and isolated for being the first of his kind to speak his mind. Then came Atriox. Atriox was not only the most talented of his recruits, but the the most intelligent. Atriox was probably the only Jiralhanae who might've agreed with Escharum. There was a cut Atriox monologue from Infinite which stated this: "I will never forget the first ever lesson Escharum taught me. A fortress built on the backs of slaves, cannot stand." Escharum was probably the only Brute who saw that the Covenant's caste system cannot thrive for long and that the Jiralhanae were only suffering under it. Atriox saw this too. But, Atriox was the only one out of the two who had the will and the balls to do what needed to be done, as Escharum probably doesn't seem like a leader who woud inspire but rather, one who instills fear. Also Escharum must've been in his 70s when the Banished began to rebel in 2549 on Algolis. Atriox gave Escharum hope that the Jiralhanae people will prosper and regain their lost glory and elevate it into new heights. Atriox could've been like the son that Escharum never had. His "death" might've shooked him to the core which might've worsened his physical condition. Also the responsibility of leading the entire Banished alone and Doisac's destruction definitley didn't help either. For 6 months, Escharum had to live every day believing that he will die, slowly without any glory and his legacy will be nothing but failure. The failure of leading the Banished and fulfilling the will of Atriox. Then came the Master Chief. John gave Escharum a brand new purpose. A final chance for one final glorious battle against the best warrior Humanity had to offer. Leaving behind a legacy of a warrior who refused his sickness and old age to kill him, and rather died fighting against a worthy opponent. Either way, Escharum would've won. If he killed Chief, he would be remebered as the Jiralhanae who killed the legendary Demon. But even in death, Escharum won, his death will inspire thousand legions of the Banished to continue to fight for themselves, for Atriox and Escharum. Truly a fascinating character.
@@WhyTho525 He earned that much. He didn't do to spite or get the last laugh at anyone, he just wanted to died like he lived, fight. Escharum deserves his own spin off, I want to learn more about his legend, from his time with the Covenant, his training of Atriox and later his service to his former student. This guy may be a recent villain in the series, but he was one who implied quite a story of his own to tell and I would become greatly invested in it. Atriox may have been one of the best villians in the series, but Escharum is more deserving of his own story being told, in fact he was the one who set the formation of the Banished as he trained it's founder (a fact he took great pride in).

Me: “Escharum wants you to prove your legend? How’s your tile to prove it chief”
Grandpa Escharum found his medication, and he's ready to fight again! I'm so happy!
Really happy it didn’t just end with him flopping on the ground dead and that’s it
At least we got a boss fight unlike Locke vs Chief in Halo 5
Yeah wasted potential storyline that was.
Chief basically manhandled escharum in this fight without a scratch on his armour but when he fights Locke he gets his visor cracked 🤣
@@mikeystalks845 So true 🤣🤣🤣 Locke more badass than Escharium
@@johnboko7110 BAHAHAHAHA but lockes helmet is strapped to a brutes shoulder pad damn halo 5 was weird Lmaoooo
@@mikeystalks845 Halo 5 is a drunk who think he know what he's doing
Escharum roaring in your headset made my room feel like it was shaking. His roar was epic!
That fucking war scream!!! 1:20
This makes me wonder how powerful of a warrior Escharum must’ve been at a young age.
In a true sense, I felt horrified when he roared. When I was 6, I played CE for the first time. I was scared to fight the Hunters, Special Forces elites and the General ranked elites. Not to mention but it's obvious, the FLOOD (Mission 343 Guilty spark) was the most horrifying part. From then, nor I've felt that genuinely scared from deep inside neither had chills running down my spine. But the boss battles in Infinite, man, so amazing
This brute boss battle was better than the Tartarus battle in halo 2. Instead of waiting for the computer to disable the bosses shields you could now do that yourself so when you beat the boss it’s more satisfying
Escharum is easier than the brute with the hammer that chases you during your fight with habinger lol… and am talking yet about heroic.. most stressfull moment ever
I just spawn camped that brute 2 dynamos and sentinel beam his head
Braccus for me was more challenging on heroic. Will do another playthrough legendary with coop later.
Sentinel Bean takes care of him pretty quick
That roar. Omg so epic
Could Escharum's sickness be due to the Endless? The last boss also showed some similar symptoms before she die.
I think Escharum was just old. He was like 85 years old
He was in his 80s.
Which brutes live basically the exact same length as a human, so he was dying due to age.
@@conner4385
Also his condition might've worsened due to the stress caused by the loss of Doisac and Atriox.
@@WhyTho525 Exactly.
So one way or another. He was most likely dying that month.
The way to stop atriox is to give him chicken pox
I got so damn scared fighting him 😨 I could've killed him my first try on normal but he got me when he had literally 1 inch of health left and I fucking screamed at the top of my lungs thinking I had to start over from full health but ended up up with a checkpoint I guess so that was cool I guess but this fight still pissed me off and had me at the edge of my seat shit was rough and made me anxious as fuck lol
Same thing happened to me he lunged at me and insta killed me while he had a pixel of health 😅
Imagine dying on normal lmao did this on heroic first try

His entrance and battle roar was awesome
Gotta love Escharum's metal scream
The Banished Brutes truly are the Elder Scrolls Orcs of Space. Seeking a good death before they go, never sacrificing their ideals, even when the way forward is blurry or unknown to them. And keeping respect for both kin and foe. What an amazing adversary we got to witness.
Big space Vikings
0:20 When Echo 216 screamed in pain, that scene always broke my heart. You can just HEAR how much pain he's in :(
John really empathized with Escharum. That's something a normal person would do. John showed a little humanity which is quite rare.
I love the brute roars in this game.
He killing the tin man
He sounded so good when he delivered the line “no, you will try”. He said it with such certainty.
I wonder who will be in charge of The Banished now that Escharum is dead
Pavium or Voridus from Halo Wars 2, maybe?
@@louiswebtser Colony or Let’Volir are worthy to lead the Banished.
It's still atriox. Escharum was just a general of sorts.
I heard atriox lives so him of course
SPOILERS
atriox is alive in the ending
A fortress built on the backs of slaves, cannot stand."
Escharum was probably the only Brute who saw that the Covenant's caste system cannot thrive for long and that the Jiralhanae were only suffering under it.

A novel or a comic about Escharum's backstory would be really REALLY cool

It’s all fun and games til he whips out the hammer and starts running at Mach 30
The shield and the relays that had to be taken out reminded me of the Invulnerability Hunter battle from Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil.
“You will be ground into the dust of this world” they really didn’t miss with escharums lines
1:22 I got Azog vibes with his battle cry
Escharum: "Tell them I died well"
Me who tea-bagged his body after boss fight: "Yeah... Well..."
Just beat him, lol I died so many times, definitely an amazing battle, just wished he had a cooler boss theme
I fought him with the blood blade in the last phase. Grapple slam into blood blade slash combo worked well. Only felt right to use a melee weapon.

Probably the closest depiction if chief fought a space marine
This fight on heroic is so awesome I really feel like I'm in a ultimate battle and I was still using the AR aha but because he's out for blood the fast movement and smart thinking really kicks into your senses but I loved this fight like chief said we fight he was not joking my main weapon to finish him off was the red energy sword and AR the true halo experience

Anyone else die like 5-10 times fighting him on normal? Lol
9:57 I love how both The Weapon and Chief turn away.
Honestly highlight of the game.
"He was a monster!"
Well someone doesn't know humanity very well.
This should have been the final boss battle
Agreed. Honestly, I don't think that the Endless are needed (unless they lead to the return of the Flood). The Banished are already way too good of an antagonistic faction to be put in 2nd place.
Man, I struggled beating him on normal, hate to see what it's like on legendary
It is definitely a “legendary” battle haha thank god there is a checkpoint for the last phase of the fight. He is deadly with that hammer.
