Imagine if they just made a whole movie out of that machine civil war plotline, and we don't have Neo, Trinity, or Morpheus in that at all. And then we get this as a second movie after that one

In the second movie, we would still see him as the game developer guy in those meta scenes, and we would see him as Neo in the therapy sessions. First we would think the developer guy was one of the "bad guy" programs, we would see him as one of the main villains, then we would learn that he was actually Neo. Could be a cool reveal. Just spitballing here as I go, these are def not great ideas but I'm saying these because they could expand so much on all the interesting things they introduced. Because it felt like they didn't do much with any of them other than the on-the-nose meta-commentary.

Still can do the rescue trinity mission as the only way to convince neo to join the new human rebellion and end the movie w a 3 way war. But none of that solves the biggest problem and that's the this movie feels like a Netflix movie or fan film, mainly the action, but the overall gravitas is missing.

8:20 actually that is legit because Neo and Trinity can power the matrix indefinitely so the other human batteries become obsolete and easy to sacrifice.
I remember someone showing that they didn't intend humans to be equivalent to batteries in the original, but processing power. They changed it because most wouldn't have caught on why Morpheus would hold up a CPU in stead of a battery.
I think the swarm mode at the end could be read as the Analyst trying to pull all stops to stop Neo and Trinity... plus he was cocky about his productivity too :D
Just quickly the swarm mode are not real people they’re bots. Actual NPC’s just to be ready for anything that happens or any order they get. Thats why it shows a man wake up and his wife remains normal (human) and he jumps out the window with her screaming.
So on point about movie with unknown characters. Wasn't the original Matrix movie one with unknown characters? And the film became classic. Create a great story and people will watch unknown characters. The modern film making is obsessions with reboots, rehashes, origin stories and collaborations sometimes harm movies. My example of that is Cruella. IMO that movie would be so much better as original story not a lame ass attempt to create origin story of one of best villains in Disney world. That just makes the transition from fashion designer to sociopathic dog hater unexplaineable.
And once again at the end of this I am happy that I don't watch Hollywood movies anymore. To me Matrix is still a Trilogy, Jurassic Park is still a Trilogy, the MCU ended with Endgame, Star Wars has only six movies in its series (the prequels grew on me) Logan was the last X-Men installment and Harry Potter had only eight movies in its franchise. I tell you, it's really peaceful inside my head having not watched all these godawful reboots and Sequels that came out in the last half decade. Real peaceful.

There is no "revival" of Star Wars prequel apologetics from anyone with taste. Phantom Menace was a transcendent masterpiece the day I saw it 25 years ago in theaters, and I've been saying as much for 25 years.
This movie has zero rewatchability. The 1st part is kinda okay the 1st time through, but once you know where its going it is no longer tolerable. I would rather have another Animatrix movie, just let artist go nuts with their imaginations. Give it a decent budget and people would watch it. It's sad when the Unreal 5 demo that is 5 mins long has more action then a 2 1/2 hr movie.

I went to this movie with much anticipation but in a theater with a capacity of almost 200 people there were only 7 people including me🤣 still i watched it. Slept halfway through. But enjoyed the climax.
If they had let go of Neo and Trinity and carried the story from either the aftermath of the last movie with the whole machine civil war or show the next One's story in a new reboot. They could've added that the skies started clearing up and the machines could switch to solar power and the civil war could've been between the machines that wanted dispose of the humans and the machines that wanted to keep the humans because they grew fond of them.

You giving too much leeway to the Wachowskis. Sure the first Matrix was incredible but the sequels were poor(not as terrible as Resurrections). And sure the V for Vendetta was great but they directed Jupiter Ascending which was a crapfest and dumpster fire. Lana Wachowski is as much to blame as WB imo.
My issue with all the Matrix sequels is how they act like Neo has superpowers, like flying, super speed, being able to see the code and kill agents. But that's not what happened in the first movie. He became the One by breaking the Matrix's limitations, and therefore he could do whatever he wanted in it, which is demonstrated by all the things he does when he comes back. Of course, such a character was too powerful and would render any sequel pointless, so they had to severely tone him down. The one exciting thing that happened in the sequels, for me, was him able to stop the sentinels in the "real world". I thought they would introduce the concept of multiple layers in the Matrix, and what humans thought was the real world was just another layer in the Matrix. But no, he was just Jesus.
Swarm mode isn't a plot hole; Neo and Trinity can power the entire Matrix so it's a calculated risk to lose a few AA batteries in order to secure 2 nuclear generators. Big risk for big reward.
