Shit happens but that fact that your able to stay so positive through this is inspirational and taking the time to spend with you family making memories is priceless compared to losing a few corals you got this man!
Thank you Brandon. This was not my first tank crash and I am sure it won't be my last. This is one reason way every reef hobbyist needs multiple tanks. If I has another tank set up I could have put most of the livestock in it and not risked losing so much with the leaking tank.
dude! this is the nightmare I hope doesn't happen to me. 15 years... it happens to the best, so sorry. I like your positive spirit. I'm latching on to your energy as I pursue my 150g build - thanks for sharing. new sub :-)
Thanks for the Sub. I've been in the hobby for 20+ years and this was my 3rd tank crash. Although this was different because I just messed up right from the start. If I did not have to fly out right away I would have seen the coral and been able to save things before it was to late. Bad luck, Bad timing and a bonehead mistake cause this failure. I'm not going to skip a beat though. The tank is already up and thriving but I have not had a chance to make that video yet. Coming soon
Hey, good luck on the 55g. Just take your time and don't freak out. In the beginning, people tend to overreact to everything. Also, don't waste money on expensive fish and coral. Get the cheap and easy stuff to start.
Yeah this really sucked. I have frags of everything except the large hammer coral that I had for over 15 years. Check out the follow up video that I published last week to see what happens.
No I didn't take water from and existing tank. I probably should have used like 5 gallons but the coral was sitting in a last bin with just a power head going because my 25 sprung a leak. The water in that bin was super dirty. The fluval 13.5 includes the light and hood so I was planning on using it to prevent evaporation in such a small tank with no ATO. The previous light was an AI Prime that was way more intense but I only needed the coral to last for 3 days and it should have been fine. Unfortunately I mess up and put in RO WATER for 5 of the gallon and not the saltwater I prepared.
AHH gutted for you mate, hope it worked out as a nice setup in the end. I'm thinking of downsizing my marine system from a 4ftx2ft to a fluval Evo, do you rate the tank and can the light grow soft coral and Lps okay? Thanks Aaron
Hey, I can relate to the downsizing. I used to have several larger 40g+ and now my largest tank is 15g. The fluval is a decent low budget option but the rear panel and baffles of the all in one overflow is plastic. From my experience the plastic seems will fail eventually. The plastic is also only 3mm thick. The light can support soft coral but besides On & off (blue / white) it has no controls. Also my light failed about about 3 weeks so I just moved on to an AI prime. Overall I would only suggest this as a budget option for beginners. It you have experience the quality won’t meet expectations. You should go with a Waterbox or innovative marine tank. They are all glass and the panels are thicker.
@@ISeaLive spot on cheers for the advice bud! I have 2 ai primes over my 4ft by 2ft tank so could always use one of them over a small tank, I have a freshwater tank that is around 60 litres, maybe I'll make that into marine and then turn the 4ft tank into freshwater, not too sure yet
Not sure why you didn’t fill it with water in the old tank, even if you were still running the old( coz you mentioned not adding all your corals) you could have used the water from there, either way some new tank bacteria would have helped
I had to leave the old 25g up but wanted to spread the coral into some other tanks to make sure that if something bad happens I won't lose everything. Something bad did happen but all because I am a dummy. I added the high capacity ceramic blocks to the tank for some bacteria but it should not have mattered because the tank had very little bioload with just a few corals.
I'm sad for you, but greatful at the same time. I've a small tank with 10 corals in it plus 2 fish, n snails have 3 crabs. But my tanks an open lid the water level drops fast a cup or 2 per 24 odd hours. As it water and not salt ive just topped it up with RO. Would this be why I'm down to only 2 coral mine to just died ? Everything els is alive. Do you top up with salt water at 0.126 each time? Much appreciated thankyou
Alway top off with RO water. I had my brother watching my tank when I was out of town for work. He topped off for about a month with salt and everything im my tank slowly died. The salinity got to high.
I would have too but I didn’t immediately take down the 25g. It was still running over the weekend and holding half my livestock. I was spreading things around because of the possibility that the 25g has a catastrophic failure. I basically needed up causing the failure myself as the 25 gallon made it through the weekend with no problems and everything in the Fluval died. I agree tho I would have used the old water first too.
Haha basically yes. First, I wasn’t sure it if it was baked on so I didn’t know if it would come off. Second, once I found out it could come off I had to finish it. Third, I figure if i didn’t do it right then there was a chance I would never do it. Now I can’t stand how much the lid covers the view of the tank inhabitants so that gotta get replaced next.
Personally I think if you added some bacteria in the bottle and slowly acclimated the corals, they should survive but then again they are live animal that you can’t predict what’s going to happen
I added 6 high capacity ceramic blocks that were colonized with bacteria from the previous 25 gallon sump. The coral was drip acclimated before getting added to the new tank. This was all a moot point because I just plan screwed up and put in the wrong water.
if you would have had live rock i dont think you would had had that crash really, no live rock no back up , that the secrets of having a reef tank the live rocks i dont see really any on your tank just the one on your coral
The tank was only running for 3 days with very little bioload. I added in well establish high capacity ceramic cubes which would help to supplement the need for live rock. In the end the tank crash because of a water chemistry mistake that I made. Check out the follow up because I did it right the second time.
Shit happens but that fact that your able to stay so positive through this is inspirational and taking the time to spend with you family making memories is priceless compared to losing a few corals you got this man!
Thank you. It was rough leaving for the weekend and not knowing what I was combing back to. Regardless the family time was a blast.
Stinks man. Don’t let it deter you. Keep at it.
Thanks, this is the 3rd tank crash I've had in 20 years. It happens but totally blows that I lost some really old pieces.
Great video. Love the honesty aswell sometimes mistakes happen especially when your in a rush, +sub :)
Thank you 👍🏻
I’m so sorry for the loss and i feel for you i really hope this never happens again

New to the hobby starting with 55gal keep ur head up bro an wish me luck

Awe man that sucks! Hopefully you can refrow most of them and obtain frags you need/want for the others.
Yeah this really sucked. I have frags of everything except the large hammer coral that I had for over 15 years. Check out the follow up video that I published last week to see what happens.
Did you take water from the existing tank? Why didn’t you transfer over the light they were used to? So many questions

This sucks man .. this hobby can be so humbling sometimes
Yeah it was a bummer to lose a coral I had when I was a child.
Dam dude. Hope the best for you and your live stock. Lol that suxs
Thanks, this really sucked but I got things back on track. Check out the second video about the Fluval.

oh no thats so sad
It was a bad day for sure.
What I would do differently is using the old water from the 25 cube to help eliminate new tank syndrome and help reduce the stress.

Great video. I spy a baby rhino
Haha You found it. Did you spot the aliens?
@@ISeaLive no. I think aliens have become a normal thing you see in 2021. Rhinos are more scarce now a days
so.....with what you had going on, you found time to scrape the mesh off the glass.... A.D.D. much , lol

Any update on the new tank?
Very Soon. I am editing up the follow up video now. It is taking forever because I have a ton of footage.
