Just purchased! Bought my 13.5 about a month ago and I've been dying for something different in the first filter media section. This roller is going to make a world of difference....
@@leerogers5628 took it out after about 2 months. Didn't even make it through the first roll. The problem I was having was it was doing such a good job filtering It was backing up my water and my automatic top off was getting close to overflowing my tank if I wasn't careful and I was having to roll it maybe twice a day. It was great but if it had an automatic timer on the roller so you didn't have to manually do it every 10 to 12 hours it would be really good. I ended up just going with the InTanke media baskets and chamber one and chamber 2.... Filter sponge, filter floss, rock media in the first one and I changed the second column into a refugium.... With that combo my tank is crystal clear and has constantly zero nitrates.
Many thanks. Funnily enough I’ve just had an ATO overflow using a skimmer and media basket in 2 for same reason. I’m switching to MB in 1 and refugium as well in 2. Thanks for taking the time 👍🏻
@@leerogers5628 If you need any suggestions. What I did was change the middle basket to a refugium but I took the stock light off of the fluval 13.5 and stood it up on its end against the glass in chamber 2. Makes a great little refugium light...lol. I took the lid off immediately and replaced with a better light source because my corals didn't like the stock light at all. Great little tank! The other thing I did was upgrade the pump to a SICCE silent 1.0 to get more flow. The inTank media baskets and the upgraded pump were the best things I did to my tank. Good luck!
Great video. I am currently designing a similar filtering mat system and have been struggling to figure out where the mat should pass through. After seeing your design, I got some inspiration. Thanks.
@@ISeaLive just curious...What size roller mat do I need... And does it come with one? I'm going to go ahead and order a roll of paper if I need to beforehand. I shot you an email a couple days ago but never got a response.

@@ISeaLive per the specs for overflow chamber on the Waterbox website the 20 and 25 have the exact same dimensions while the 15 is the same except for the height. 3.1x3.1x13.8 for the 15 and 3.1x3.1x15.7 for the other two.
amazing! Outstanding. I freaking love it. You could rig up a small geared motor with high torque and low rpm to run on a timer like once every 4 days for 30 seconds to advance the roller automatically.
Totally love this idea but a lot of us use HOB Filters and Protein Skimmers. Is there any way that you could make one of these units with a HOB box that would accept your Roller Mat Design?
Water box mini series peninsula 15 and 25 along with the small cubes (10 gallon) and bio cube 29 and 32 those would be a great start for the AIO roller mat!
💯, I already started on the Waterbox Series. I am testing a unit on the Peninsula mini 15g right now. I wonder if any of these tanks have the same size overflow chamber. Maybe the 10g cube is the same and the pen 15g ?
@@ISeaLive I wrote the measurements in my own post a bit above. Pen15 and Cube10 have same height, so have Cube20 and PM25 (but you can probably get away with a version for the PM15/Cube10) and all WB Nanos (Cubes and PM both sizes) have the same size for their sock chamber otherwise.
I would definetly buy one of these badboys from you for my WB 25 Peninsula Mini. Regardless of how much the shipping costs to Germany may be this is a must have for me!!
Can you just make one that fits in a regular 4 " filter sock? I and many other rather have a simple manual one vs those that you have to do a bunch of plumbing for and remove the filter sock holder. The Klir does fit, but does not work well at all because the sensor is really bad.
My favorite part of this video is when you laser cut the acrylic parts.... IMO too many people seem to just rely on 3d printing for their final production. Thank you for the design and video. If I ever get back into saltwater aquariums it will probably be a 10-20g nano AIO.
Out of curiosity what happens when the mat becomes blocked? In sumps it would just overflow the sock/mat compartment into the fuge. In the ATO does it just overflow back into the tank?
It would cause the water level in the tank to raise. Eventually the water would raise to the top of the tank and overflow the back wall into the filtration because the back is a few millimeters below the exterior glass of the tank.
It’s possible that the overflow chamber might get filler up and the tanks water level will rise. It unlikely the tank would every overflow. Interestingly the media basket with a filter pad would start to get clogged in just a few days, causing the water level to raise. I’ve gone a week with the roller mat and not had any issues.
This was my first thought as well. Awesome idea and if you can speak more to the emergency overflow (if it’s built into either your design or the Fluval chambers) that would be great! Any way to connect it to a water level sensor and motor?
Id like to see an emergency overflow for the roller mat, knowing that most people upgrade their return pump for more gph. Including myself. I feed pretty heavy and will soon have 5 fish in my evo. @@ISeaLive I would take one of these too Im planning on using the fluval 5 for a qt tank
Are you gonna be in Dallas squash ella?
Unfortunately no I won’t be there. I’m in Cali and it’s just me so I have to design and make everything. I’ll be attending Reefapalooza in So Cal next month.
This is a must have i need it now. Well done that man amazing work. Any chance to get one in the uk ?
💯i send stuff to the UK all the time. I think it’s only an extra $10 to ship.
Will you be making these for the innovative marine Nuvo 20 by any chance?
Yes, I’ll be doing these after the Waterbox nanos
Fantastic job, nice and simple and seems to work a treat 👍
Thank you. I start everything off to complex and eventually it gets simplified down after not working lol .
@@ISeaLive fair play bud
Be cool if something similar was available over here in the UK
@@AJBAdventures no problem, we ship to the UK all the time.
@@ISeaLive AHH interesting, I wonder what one of your fleece rolls will retail for?
@@AJBAdventures I haven’t really wholesaled anything before and unfortunately everything is expensive because it’s low volume and hand made at the moment. I’m sure the price will go down if ppl start purchasing these.
Looks fantastic idea, well done on a really enjoyable video. Might be interested in 1 in the future.
Thank you. Let me know what tank you have and I’ll toss it on the list.
