to/for Syd for sure… the dark side of the moon was to/for Syd also he was in studio with them while recording the wall.. he was their leader, founding member was forced to leave for mental issues
That was "Wish You Were Here" where Syd showed up. Dark Side isn't about Syd, although "Brain Damaged" was inspired by him. The character Pink, in "The Wall" album, is an amalgam of both Roger Waters and Syd Barrett.
For me, and I know they say it's not about Syd, but imo it's clearly about Syd. As if it's a conversation with an absent Syd. The album itself is about presence vs absence and this song is a microcosm of that.
It was an incredible synergy of musical and lyrical genius, that of the heyday of Pink Floyd. Where several individual genius' produced greater than the sum of the parts. Sadly we lost Rick Wright 16 years ago. But David Gilmour is still going strong, having released a new album in Sept, and just completed a 21 show tour in Rome, London, LA and New York. Not only songs from the new album, but some fan favorites from the Floyd days too, including Wish You Were Here. Pretty darn good for being 78 years young. There are some videos from the concerts, but recording from a cell phone really does not do justice to the sonic and visual brilliance. David's daughter Romany has inherited some of that Gilmour brilliance and she sings lead on two of the songs and backup for the rest. Here is a decent recording of the tour band with Romany: th-cam.com/video/Yv4--p6bAxo/w-d-xo.html ( David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour - Between Two Points (Later... with Jools Holland) ) David in a short video explaining the song, and how Romany essentially knocked it out in one take: th-cam.com/video/hCQcKUtg9kc/w-d-xo.html ( David Gilmour - Between Two Points (Explainer) ) Romany was recently doing a few songs at a local pub on their open mic night, and Dad showed up and they did an impromptu duet of Wish You Were Here: th-cam.com/video/-jYMraZjPHE/w-d-xo.html ( VR 360 - Romany & David Gilmour - Wish You Were Here - Open Mic at the Neptune Inn - Part 4 of 4 ) It's not at all polished, or rehearsed but not bad. I think it was some practice for the upcoming tour as David was rusty singing live.... And here is a lovely photo album of Romany growing up, set to one of David's tunes. She has an incredible music teacher and she so looks like the young David: th-cam.com/video/T_gQ_D5yhAE/w-d-xo.html ( David Gilmour and Romany Gilmour - Kokineli ) Finally there are a number of tracks from David's new album Luck and Strange which you may enjoy reacting to. Especially the masterpiece "Scattered". He reflects on a full life and laments being close to the end in a very deep and soul stirring manner as is his way. "I stand in a river... push against the stream,,, time is a tide that disobeys, and it disobeys me..."
After you watch SOS in The Slavic Bazaar, you should watch his duet with Hausser (Croatian Chelo prayer) of an extraordinary version of SOS in Singapore last month. Take care. ❤️☮️
Спасибо, спасибо! 💕

Nobody can see a smile from(behind) a viel .For me that says the words are directed to all who should hear them ..

Yes, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one... on the bright side, it gave him comfort to express the loss with his art in this song
Why can you tell a smile from a viel ?, Nobody can ,, It is for all who should hear it ,
