Good video, clear instructions and not over the top with wordiness. However, Rufus often mangles things so Balena Etcher or even Ventoy are preferred these days. Not sure what is going on with Rufus as it used to be work really well, but it seems to be suffering lately.
Sorry, but I don't know of such reviews about Rufus... Please give me a link to discuss this topic if it is not difficult. It's important for me. Thank you very much for your positive feedback on my video😊
Bro ty so much my hard drive was fried instated of but a new one I hade a portable ssd and it work I could download windows 10 pro and it install properly with out this vid I would not have been able to ues my pc
You can use portable Windows on any other device. The license is tied to portable Windows, not to the device to which the external drive with portable Windows will be connected.
When I install windows using bootable usb, normally it will delete and install windows to C drive in computer.Your video shows it does not ask which drive to be installed windows but install to external drive instead of C drive.Could you please explaint to me.
Yes, in the Windows to Go method, Windows installation is done in a different way. First, you specify the Windows installation path for the Rufus application, that is, an external drive, then select the Windows ISO file, after that, in the Image Parameters, you select Windows to Go and now the system will not ask which drive to install Windows on, because Rufus will indicate the Windows installation path that you defined in the previous settings.
@@ipMalik Thank you for your explanation.I have a ssd with windows installed perviously. It can boot if i connect to pc with sata cable but not boot if I connect it with usb cable (external drive),enter boot menu and choose this drive. Please help
@@datphamCali Sorry for not answering right away, it was already night and I was sleeping.. There are 2 types of Windows installation, when connecting with a LAN cable and when connecting to a USB port. If you install Windows on an SSD when connecting with a LAN cable, this SSD will not boot Windows when connected to a USB port. And if you install Windows on an SSD when connecting to a USB using the Windows to Go method, then when connecting this SSD with a LAN cable, Windows will not boot on the computer, in this case the SSD will work as a data storage.
Might be a silly question, but how do I tell definitively if this has worked? I think I've booted from my external SSD, but the OS didn't do any setup, laptop opened as normal and still has all the data/apps from my internal Hard drive operating system. Not sure what's gone wrong
You can't. You can however install it onto a USB, then go into windows and shrink the drive. You could then use this and dual boot ubuntu with windows on it though
Great tutorial, thanks! Is there a way to avoid launching downloaded Media Creation Tool exe file since it needs Admin Rights on my company laptop? How can I copy Windows form company laptop where I don't have the admin rights?
If your laptop account does not have administrator rights to run the application, you need to check with the laptop administrator... There are special applications for transferring Windows to an external drive, for example this: 4DDiG Partition Manager
Installing Windows to Go on an external drive is completely different than installing Windows directly on a drive connected to the motherboard, and therefore the computer is unlikely to boot from such a drive. And why would you need to do this - install Windows on an external USB NVMe, and then connect this USB NVMe to the motherboard..
Yes, of course, but it depends on the speed of the computer, the reading speed of the external drive and the games you will play. You should know that an external USB drive will work a little slower than a drive connected with a SATA cable.
Installing Windows on an external drive depends on several factors. On HDD it installs slower than on SSD, on SSD m2 it installs faster, and the installation speed also depends on the computer's power. The installation will take less than an hour or more than an hour approximately.

For me, this is the Gold Standard of tutorials. Succinct, precise, with nothing overlooked. Well done!
Ok!
You are the man. I've been trying to figure this out for quite a while. Thank you so much. 👌
