9 years ago I watched this video, today I’m here again Wow !! What a mighty Aircraft For me the Dash 8-Q400 is the prettiest twin engine turboprop. Thanks for the beautiful shot.
Oh yes there is. The Fokker F27 with Dart engines was the plane that re-united me with my dad during vacacion. He just passed away the 1st of July 2020. Sniff...
and the Dash 8 isn't even considered a STOL aircraft, if you think these suckers climb, you should see its predecessors, the four engine Dash 7 and the Twin Ottter's.
Thanks! That's nice you got to fly on the Q400 so much already, I've only had the opportunity to fly on one once before. I always end up on the old Dash 8-300.
I love the sound that the props make. In high idle and taxiing, they make your basic box fan sound. In takeoff and in flight, the props buzz like the wings of a flying insect. It's mu understanding that turboprop engines are much more fuel efficient than conventional fan jet engines. In theory, an Airbus A-320 airliner, with four turboprops, would use 40 percent less jet fuel than one with it's two fan jet engines. The downside though, 80 or 90 miles an hour slower. It would make a significant difference on a cross country or overseas flight, but on a flight from Charlotte NC to New York's LaGuardia, it would only add maybe 15 or 20 minutes to the flight time. I think it would be worth those extra minutes to save jet fuel. It would cut down on emissions, and be better for the environment.
I flew on a prop 8 about 2 and a half years ago. Beautiful plane, but flying into mountainous regions be prepared for one heck of a bumpy ride. when I made the reservation it was on a different type of plane but for some reason or other they changed our plane to a de havilland. Flew into Jackson hole Wyoming and the moment we lined up with the mountain range we started to rock and roll.
.... "Bumpy" air or TURBULENCE as it's more commonly referred to in airplane-speak has nothing to do with aircraft size, weight, OR design.... It's a factor of the atmosphere moving across the earth's surface and trees or buildings creating what is known as "mechanical turbulence"...
I've only ever seen one other Q400 backtrack like that here in Kelowna. Luckily it did just for you so you could capture this amazing video. Great job as always!
I hope some come to the Caribbean soon, they're great airplanes :-) Good news up here, Bombardier has launched a program and now the old Dash 8-100/300's will be flying with Air Canada Jazz for another 15-20 years!!
Beautiful close up footage of this aircraft with landing lights and runway lights! The sounds from the props are awesome! I also thought the co-pilot gave you the thumbs up (at 01:11), but it turned out that he was probably just scratching his ear! Fantastic footage with a big like from me!! :-D
@@TheHDAviation The first time I actually flew in a Q400 was 8 to 9 years ago on a Horizon Air flight bound for Spokane from SeaTac. This was also when Horizon still had their own logo before sharing with Alaska. The year before that, we were scheduled to board a Q400 bound for San Jose, but it got delayed due to mechanical issues. I was upset because I really wanted to get on the plane for the first time, but instead we boarded an Embraer 175 for Portland. I think it was an Embraer. Edit: It wasn't an Embraer. I looked through some of the past aircraft Horizon used, and found that the one we got on after the delayed flight was a Bombardier CRJ700.
TheHDAviation The Air Canada Express is a brand name under for 4 airlines that they can operated for Air Canada like Jazz, Air Georgia, Sky Express Airlines, and Exploit Valley Air Services.
+TheHDAviation I've flown on this aircraft as well and I'm equally impressed with its jet-like performance. However, it's noticeably nosier than the ATR 42-600 and the ATR 72-600. Two other regional aircraft on which I've had the privilege of flying.
kmb9624 Nice! I did find it a bit noisy when flying on the Q400 as well. I haven't had the opportunity to fly on the ATR 42 or 72 yet, but would really like to some day soon.
+kmb9624 I flew on LIAT's ATR 42-600 and their ATR 72-600 three months ago and was very impressed on how quiet those aircraft were. The overall service on the carrier left a lot to be desired, but flying on their regional aircraft was a joy. If you ever get the opportunity to fly on the latest generation of ATRs, you simply won't be disappointed.

Wow !! What a mighty Aircraft
For me the Dash 8-Q400 is the prettiest twin engine turboprop.
Thanks for the beautiful shot.
Thanks for watching x2!
I really love the Q400 as well, one of my favourite aircraft and they're always such a pleasure to fly on.
this thing is a work of art
Beautiful thing to see!! I love the sound of these engines, the helices ... it's awesome !!
One of my favourite aircraft, love the Q400!
@@TheHDAviation cool design, but they’re not fun to ride on imo. Always turbulent on them.
@@joshuacook903 Which makes it fun!
Love the sound of that aircraft, very powerful engines.
About 6000 horsepower to the propellers for one engine, and you get 2 of them.
For some reason I would prefer this over a 737 BBJ. There’s just something romantic about highwing turboprops.
They sound better too
Oh yes there is. The Fokker F27 with Dart engines was the plane that re-united me with my dad during vacacion. He just passed away the 1st of July 2020. Sniff...
aww...
Thank you. 🛫❤
The Q400 is the 757 equivalent of props when it comes to climb performance.
bajeboi They really do climb pretty quick, always impressive to see. Thanks for watching!

Technically it does, right? Lolol
That's why I love it. It looks so agreesive
Nice turboprop! Flew already 4 times with such an aircraft. Nice work!

Wouldn't turboprops be more noisy than regular turbofans?
Omg I was on that plane!!
Love these Q400 planes. 👍👍 Rode as a passenger when I lived in Washington years ago. Powerful, guitar, comfortable 🙏
Cool video!! I'm flying this awesome aircraft from Vancouver to Kelowna and back in Jan!

Ya, this was the first time I've seen them do that as well. Thanks a lot!
The Q400 is one of my favourite turboprops, sadly I don't see them that often. Looks like you were pretty close to the runway, awesome footage!
They're one of my favorites as well, I'm lucky too, we have a ton of them here. Thanks!
Come To Hawaii there is a lot of Dash 8's here because Island Air uses Dash 8's
KaOaj_Craft_ MC if you pay me the ticket, sure ;)
Air Canada is my favourite airline and Q400's are my favourite plane! Oh well, off to Hawaii!
Taking off in this thing is so damn satisfying. I'm peeved I was so used to the 737 before COVID 🤣
Splendid video and very good close-up!
Thanks very much!
seating 60 passengers, top speed 415mph, range 1560miles, max service ceiling 27,000ft
derek wall Air Canada actually has 74 seats on most of their Q400's.
not bad. Usually embraers carry 50-60
you guys didn't mention that it'll do loop de loops & barrel rolls and you don't have to be a real pilot to fly. its that easy to fly. 🤔😬
Greengiant Bombardier got something right then!

Thanks Gordon! I've only flown on the Q400 once and really enjoyed it. The MU-2 is high up on my list of aircraft I'd love to fly in some day!
Amazing video man!! Love the close up of the Dash-8!! Liked as always!
Thanks a lot!
Nice close-up action...great view...well done...Steve.
Thank you Steve!
Excellent video of one of my favorites. Also saw a couple Convairs in the background--did some cargo conversions on 240s back in the early '80s.
Thanks a lot, the Q400 is one of my favourites as well.
What’s up with the wing spoilers being open until the throttles are advanced for takeoff then they close? Fascinating.
Nice video with awesome sound.

Epic close up shots! Great video, Liked!

Plane has jack-squat for wing area, but no flap deployed for take-off? Must have been very light
Why were the spoilers deployed right up to takeoff roll?
It's normal for Dash 8's to do that.

From a performance and comfort perspective, what's the difference between a propeller like this and a small jet (airbus a319/20 or B737)?
Why the Speed breaks was deployed just on the run? Don't get it..
Look at that climb performance.

Shoutout to the biggest modern turboprop airliner!
I’ve rode that exact one!
