    Nicely done. Love the Lewis Boot Co. Snippet. If you get a chance, post more video of the company. That was really nice of them to accommodate you. Small companies are wonderful.

      Thank you for watching! I agree about Lewis Boots. I was actually surprised by how accommodating they were. It was much appreciated, and I'll keep using Lewis Boots and talking about them. Thanks for your comment!

    Cool channel! Subscribed! If you get the chance, there’s great quail hunting in Arizona and some AWESOME quail hunting in nutty California. Although in Cali, you have to use steel shot and more open chokes. No biggy, #6 steel works like a champ.

      Thank you for subscribing! I would definitely like to try Arizona and California for birds. Right now I have to hunt around my work schedule, which makes these longer trips more challenging. But, I'm hoping to retire in several years and plan to have more time for these trips. I'm glad you mentioned California has some special regulations. I'll definitely remember that... and #6 when switching to steel shot. Thanks again!

    Thanks for a nice video and working with a young dog. You’re my kind of Hunter low-key take your time. Enjoy the countryside no matter how the hunt goes by yourself. Good luck with the hernia.

      Thank you for your comment! For me, there are lots of things I enjoy about these trips in addition to getting birds. Of course, a good bird day is nice, too. Thanks again!

    Another great video, wonderful hunt. Miss Sandy is doing well. We had a short season, But lessons where learned on both sides of the ball. My expectations where Way to high. We have slowed down and will move more at her pace. Love the dog, she has been a bright spot, when it all clicks she is going to be something. The smartest dog I think I have ever had. She will teach me well. had a couple hernias over the years, good that your getting it taken care of. Thanks for the hunt

    Thanks for the reply.
    Love the channel. My hunting partner and I would like to truck camp instead of staying in motels. If you have time to show the “how to” on truck camping that would be awesome. How to do the shelter, food, sleeping equipment, etc.

    • @thebirdbum9182
      @thebirdbum9182  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sure! I don't ever see myself going back to motels/cabins. For now, I much prefer truck camping. I'm getting ready to make a video about the shower/toilet tent, which is good for longer trips. A couple of people have asked for this video. Also, I do have a couple of videos on the channel already that may be helpful in terms of the setup. I've more recently put a fridge and freezer in the back, which is also in a truck camping video. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate suggestions for content. Let me know if you have other questions.

    I bought Lew dog boots too. My problem was I never used them and some of the locations I hunted the prickly pear cactus was thick. Long story short is male older male shorthair developed an infection in his foot and needed surgery. He was out for 3 weeks for recovery and I was out quite a chunk of change. I too will be booting dogs religiously when in cactus and sand burr country from now on.
    Hope you have a speedy recovery from your surgery.

      Thanks for watching! I know what you mean about not using them. For me, it took things getting pretty bad before I committed to using them every time when in these kinds of places. But, they make a big difference. No foot problems at all this time. Thanks again!

      I'm pretty new to hunting in OK, but I enjoy it. I'm hunting public land, and I haven't seen any blues yet... but maybe one of these days. Thanks for your comment!

    Id like to reach out to you about some questions on the WMA's. Im in texas, and have been looking at OK panhandle for some hunts, and could use some additional help narrowing down the country. Fairly new to bird hunting, mainly did big game out west.

    Great video. Thank you for your content. I have had a hernia. Hope you heal up fast. I live in Oklahoma grew up hunting quail after school in Northeastern OK. Unfortunately no more quail here. Didn't know that when I got a bird dog pup. Can you tell me how you go about selecting a place to hunt in Oklahoma. I can only tell so much from On X. Also were you camping on the WMA?

    • @thebirdbum9182
      @thebirdbum9182  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! I don't know that I'm the best person to ask about scouting. I don't think I do a very good job. The first time I go somewhere (like this WMA) I do a little e-scouting with On-X just to get a general orientation... but you're right that this only gets you so far. After that, I just get out and see what I find. Over time, you develop your spots where things have looked good or where you've gotten into birds. On this particular trip, I would go out where it looked pretty good from what I had seen but found once I got into it that the cover was probably a little too thick. If I go back to this WMA I'll have some spots I'll try again and others I'll avoid based on my experience this year. Sorry I don't have better advice. In terms of camping, I did camp out of my truck. On my last day there were also some deer hunters (bow hunting) who camped there. The WMA's I've been to in Oklahoma have designated camping areas. Thanks for your comment!

    Any concerns about rattlesnakes? Thinking of heading to Northwest Oklahoma end of Jan. Temps will be in the low to mid 50s.

    • @thebirdbum9182
      @thebirdbum9182  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it were earlier in the year I might be more concerned about snakes. To be honest, I've only been there in the winter, so I haven't been concerned about them. When I was there this year it got pretty warm during some of the days but the temps were still in the teens every night. Maybe someone else has more complete info on snakes in the region.

      @@thebirdbum9182 Thanks for the response. Evening temps will be upper 20s to low 30s so it may not be an issue. From Nebraska and we got hit with some good snow and cold temps. Tough hunting so I am heading South for the first time. Happy Hunting!

    Love those Brittany’s. I am looking for two more finished dogs to fill out my kennel.
    Do you have any trainers or kennels that you would recommend?

    • @thebirdbum9182
      @thebirdbum9182  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment about the dogs! In terms of recommendations, I'm afraid I don't know of anyone off the top of my head who routinely deals in finished dogs. However, I know I've seen some websites for breeders who do, but that was several years ago that I had seen them. I'm sure there are some good ones out there. If I do hear of any finished dogs that become available I'll send you a note on this thread to see if you're interested. Sorry I don't have better info for you.
