    This is by far one of the best uses of a 4x8 space for a layout that I’ve ever seen. So much packed into a small space. Definitely inspiring me to build my own.

    A fantastic layout, great detail in the buildings and scenery, and an intriguing track plan! I like how you run the trains and switch the cars at slow speeds, too.

    The night scene is a beautiful way to close this great presentation. Thanks to Larry for sharing this treasure.

    I love this layout. Lot's of operations in a small space and it looks convincing, not cramped.

    So many great ideas and fine scenic details in a small layout ! - By having a point to point layout using elevation and a fly-over track to incorporate a small exchange yard with a mainline railroad it avoids the "flat look" with too much unrealistic trackage and also gives a reasonable amount of servicing commercial industries to generate branchline revenue. The downtown and industrial detailing plus the subtle continuous running loop are a bonus ! This is Genius. Thanks for the inspiration.

      This reply is from Larry, the builder of the layout...Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your insight into the construction of my layout. I wanted to show people that you can do a lot with a basic 4'x8' layout. Your observations were exactly what I hoped viewers would take away from the video. Reading your comments was very gratifying. Thanks again.

      Wow! Certainly a lot packed into this layout with very nice details. I certainly will be "borrowing " some details from this. In fact, I wish I had an overview so I could see where all the track goes. I got lost in the details (in a good way), which is likely the idea. Love it!

    This is absolutely incredible. I was blown away by the sheer amount of detail that was put into such a small space, definitely could be used for some inspiration!

    It is hard to believe that this is a 4x8 ho layout, Mr. Young mastery of using scenery in small spaces really makes the case that you don't need a basement to build a beautifully detailed layout!

      I agree! I just found this in my recommended and I cannot, for the life of me, how all of this is crammed into a 4x8. I absolutely need a Track diagram

    I'm so glad I stumbled upon this visit! Well done, Sir! An amazing amount of railroading in such a typically small area! And yet, it doesn't appear to be "crammed" together the way you have the scenes placed. I've added this to my Favorites for future inspiration on my own 16'x17' D&RGW layout where I'll be "forcing" a lot of town and city operation into small areas to make the overall "run" between them the dominating theme. Most of the scenes at the Monterey & Salinas Valley Railroad Museum's HO layout in Salinas, CA were built upon removable platforms like what you have described here. I took over scenery two and a half years ago and spend an inordinate amount of time repairing the scenes due to warping and clearance issues. Being new to your site, I'm hoping you'll speak to your construction methods in other videos. If not, let's talk! Some of our scenes are unbearably large and they are on my coal bucket list for remodeling in the future, provided I shall live that long!

    You need to change your channel name to "The Train Wizard" because I have no idea how you packed so much into a 4x8 unless you used magic, every inch has a story to be told. So many fine details. I can only imagine how long this took... but it is just amazing

      Larry, the creator of this layout says thank you for your comment...your remarks are very kind. My purpose in making this video is to show you don't need "miles" of benchwork to have a nice layout. I don't know much magic but I'd like to give you a magic trick. "Think fences and walls."
      If you drive around your city you won't go very far without seeing a fence or wall. I have never seen a layout without too many fences or walls. But I've seen a lot of layouts with very few of either...it adds interest to the layout. Thanks again for your comment.

    Truly an exceptional layout! So much detail and operational interest in a 4x8 space. Your motive power operates very smoothly through the switches and crossings. I notice you use a lot of Atlas turnouts and sectional track. What is the minimum radius of the curves on your layout?

  • @PeterEck
    @PeterEck 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great creative work!!! I was so intrigued by your layout that I decided to try to map your layout in AnyRail based on Marklin's C-Track. One thing caught my eye. While watching your video, the local enters the underground area either on the inner loop or the outer loop but **exits** on the opposite loop!! This means that the local crosses from one loop to the other. Very clever!! Did you model this with just a crossover piece of track or did you use 4 switches in an |X| pattern? Any reason why?

    • @paulyoungtrains
      @paulyoungtrains  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your interest in the layout. What looks like a crossover or and diamond X track is just the magic of editing. There are turnouts at each tunnel entrance on the left and right side of the layout that connect the main loop of track to the UP yard in the center. Good luck reproducing the layout on AnyRail.

    • @PeterEck
      @PeterEck 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulyoungtrains You are welcome!! The effort you put into your layout shows.
      In tracing the route, I see that it is a "spiral" without the need for turnouts in the tunnel under the interchange.
      I think I understand your comment but to clarify, are there turn outs **iN** the tunnel underneath the interchange yard above?
      I did "complete" the AnyRail plan with a small 2-3 mm gap that can be closed by "bending" the track a little.
