I have been cycling around 6 months and the number of times I see 47 km/h or more on the screen on flat is less than the fingers of one hand. If I put my mind to it, I can probably hold it around a minute. But 4 years is a long time, things might change until 2028 and I might got struck by a lighting bolt and end up having hairs like Pogi. This would surely change the things for me 🤣🤣🤣
Well done to your mum, she looks in good shape and I bet she could cycle faster than most of the egotistical audience who think they could compete against the pro teams.
You don't realize how fast these guys are until you see them live. Remember the tv is filmed by a motorbike going the same speed. When you stand on the sideline, it's incredibly fast.
You drove 4min48 seconds with a speed of 47,7 km/h. respect! I bet that less then 6% from the 6% idiots who think that they can qualify for the olympic road race of 2028 can't do better :).
0% of the 6% can ride that fast. Everybody who can ride that fast for so long knows how fast it is and how much training is in such a performance and knows then that this gap can not be closed in 4 years
I cant even reach the 47.7 top speed in flat ! I blame it on my bike , lol But i am capable of doing 230km audax once per year and knee trebling next day ! I ride mostly weekends with the local CC , overall around 5 to 7h per week I really can not understand how it is even possible for some people to be so fast ! Thank you for this video
To be honest right now i'm just training to do long distances at "a decent speed" With long distances and a decent speed, I mean I want to be able to do 100km or more on my own, on flat terrain without wind at 30 km/h or more. Or 200km in the same circumstances at 28 or more.
That's exactly what I'm aiming for as well: a decent 'cruising speed' for longer touring trips and overall health/fitness. I also take 30 km/h as a benchmark speed
I'd have to be going downhill all the way to average that speed! On the flat not a hope for anything more than less than a minute. As for UK population saying they could do it, as you say deluded. Apparently some think they'd be able to compete in 100m sprint, long jump etc. Laughable.
The difference between a good (cat 2-3) racer and the absolute best is honestly way, way bigger than this test implies. A good amateur racer probably has a 5 min all-out power of around 5-5.5 w/kg. Stuyven’s normalized power from last year’s WC was 5.1 w/kg for 6 hours and he didn’t even win
Yep. A good FTP for a cat 2-3 rider is 300-320W (assuming 70-79kg!) based on around 10-12 hours of training a week. A pro will be 400W+ and be doing 20+ hours a week.
Yes! General deluded public have no idea. Us lesser mortals who train and race on bikes , I am 73yrs old and knew at the age of twenty That I did not have the VO2 capacity , that, in an nutshell is why pro riders are beasts. Caveat here first, with a massive tailwind at Red sea level , In 2020 I averaged 46kph , for ten mns. My strava showed 540 watts which is nonsense. The average speed was correct but I know I can hold 500watts for a minute if I am lucky. Still makes me laugh today.
Let's take it one step further, they would struggle to win or lay up with the fastest club group riders. To be fair, I don't think we are the only country where 6% are delusional!
Need to start picking people randomly like jury duty and assigning them a random sport for the Olympics you get 4 years to train and we watch the results would be sick
i think this 6% of people got motivated by watching how the last two gold medals in the Women Race happen. Yes it was crazy that they were not 100% atheltes, but they had a special good condition mantained from the passt. well, let the 6% think they can qualify, they will buy lot of top bikes and keep the business working.

How long do you think you could ride at 47.7kph? Let us know below!
zero seconds?
60 seconds but in a downhill
About 5 seconds :D

Well let's just say I'm relatively confident I could beat your mum in a sprint but that's about as far as I'm willing to bet 😅
What a cool mom😊
It’s unbelievably cool and heartwarming to have a cyclist mom at your age. Never thought this was possible!
Well done to your mum, she looks in good shape and I bet she could cycle faster than most of the egotistical audience who think they could compete against the pro teams.
Having mom in the video took it to another level, whoever thought of that needs a raise lol, great content 👏🏽
The best part was riding with your mum!
That's so cool!

True that. I was lucky to see mvdp crossing Carrefour de larbre at Paris Roubaix this year at 45+ km/h, its mind blowing
Is there any point being a spectator when you just see a blur going past?
The mom is a proper machine, really cool!
Mum needs to be in more videos! Brilliant! More representative of much of the cycling population i reckon!

That was a great video. Your Mom is in amazing shape. She must be very proud of you and you must be very proud of her. Love it!
I just did my RB TT PB last week at a ten and I only managed 46.7kph with all the aero kit and 350w for like 20 mins
Once, when I was younger, I was able to sprint, sprint, at 49.8 kph for ten seconds. Shows how capable these guys are!
I’ve a less flappy cycling jersey but even so 18 seconds looks challenging! Great video
What a great video! And your mom is FAST! Well done!
Wow.....What a Mum,did'nt she do well?....First class effort from your Mum Jamie boy she's in great shape! Top video as always.
Professional UCI cyclists are outliers in the realm of physical and mental endurance, and human physiology. Utmost respect.
Brilliant - loved that your mum gave it a go. Good on you both.

Good vid as always Jamie, well done Mum! 👌👍
I had a hard time going 50km/h in a light downhill road - very humbling - much respect to pros.
I can't! Breaking the elusive 20mph is hard enough 😂
I think I can breakdance.
Huge respect to your mum. This is such a cool video 🙂
On a good day I can hold 500 watts for about 4 minutes, but that's at a bodyweight of 87kg.
My mum wouldn't dare to ride faster than 25kph on a bike!

I can do 600 watts for 4 minutes on the flat at 63kg but feel pretty awful the next day...

Loving the piece.....so well done to your mother! But please oh please can the windscreen sized glasses be ditched....it is cycling right, not scuba ?
Apart from the aero position i don't see any difference between your mum and Remco
Thanks for the reality check. 👍
Kudos to mom!
And its not only about training , you also need to be lucky enough to have the genes that can make your body deliver faster and longer than others.
I can only reach 47kph on a 3% downhill slope. Flat, no way
im cycling for about 6 months (2-3 hours a week).. so not much experience.
But I dont think i can reach 47.7 on flat ground yet.
Intervals.icu says over 400w for 11m. Maybe a bit more on a cooler day.
