I used to have multiple types of chickens around 2006 with 4H, and my favorite was the old english game hen bantam, I could call her name, and she would fly to me, they are all so cute and unique.
@@moviebites9570 From what I remember, it's around 6-8 years lifespan, my little bantam girl was culled secretly by my dad because we weren't into 4h as much anymore, she was happy to play and active at least 3 years. The other's were sold at auctions or given to people with the land to hold them. Coyotes got "Big Bird" my favorite silky, I used to go to the farm and visit them, and they knew who I was. Silkies are pretty stupid though, I noticed through all of the ones I've had, they would never survive in the wild anywhere. Putting silkies in the back yard, they don't come over, the females just huddle around the male, and that's about it for them unless you feed them by hand any grubs you find. I had a bantam silver Seabright that thought she was a human or something, she would always fly up on peoples left shoulder and watch everything they did. Like a parrot is basically what she was. A surprising thing about all of the chickens I've had was that they know not to poo while being held or on top of someone. All breeds have different special characteristics, it was wonderful to have them as a kid.
Can anybody tell me if these rooster are loud as the American gamefowl or what breed of game fowl is the most quiet when it comes to crowing, I had the American gamefowl but they are just too loud its like they are crowing outside your window
My cousin has two, a girl and boy. I love that hen so much she’s just too cute, and she looks like your hen. I’m just happy I found out the name of the breed, I want like 20 lol. Edit: I have two hens now, had them maybe a year 🐓
What do you call this kind of old English game hen? Her color is one I have been looking for. I look up old English and I get all of the other colors and their names. I appreciate your help. Thank you.
Oh my gosh!! I’ve raised 2 chicks since 1 day old and they are 5 months old now and I never knew what they were! They are these!! ❤️❤️❤️ When do they lay eggs?
They are running mostly free, we feed in addition store bought chicken food, Any leftover veggies, berries of the bush when there ripe. Anything they’ll know what they can eat.
Definitely easier to deal with. Less food, they make less of a mess. Smaller eggs and do not lay regularly. Not a reliable egg source. Definitely more fun then big regular chicken. They are happy if they have room to roam.
I can not tell you how many different types of Old English Bantam exist. These are (BB red old English game bantams) Black Breasted Red Old English Game Bantam.
Idk where you live haha but pretty well socialized means dumb where I’m at haha, they have a lot of natural predators I had a silver duck wing get took by a cat last week while she was with the rooster
Until they are mature those chicken are pretty silly. Once they are older this breed is very observant, yes we have lost chicken to either Owls, Hawks, Falcon etc.. We live in the middle of the woods with some open space, so no surprise there. They are not happy in a cage.
What the OEGB clubs have done to this breed is an absolute disgrace. Pigeon chest and short back, they look more like the Serama. They look NOTHING like the birds that Herbert Atkinson painted.
